Chapter 390: Evening Date
Chapter Three Hundred-Ninety – Evening Date
Stefan stared at the ground and sweat beads formed on his head as the silence prolonged. He added. "There’s a restaurant there too and they have rare delicacies."
Sorren had told him once that Bebe had told him how Laurel would do anything for food. He didn’t think it’d be literally but he decided to try his luck.
"I’d come with Marino and Mira."
Stefan snapped his head up. That was a yes! And even better, she’d be bringing her adorable children along. He stood up from the ground. "Really?"
Laurel shrugged. She didn’t want to act like the food wasn’t the only thing she wanted to do there. "The kids would love to see new places too."
Stefan smiled, reading her completely. Food was really her weak point. That felt like the most important discovery he’d made in his life. He stretched a hand to her. "Alright. We’d go this evening."
Laurel stared at his hand. She didn’t want to do that. She shouldn’t be doing this. She wasn’t dumb enough to not know that it was a date. "Rare delicacies, huh..." she murmured as she took his hand, and he pulled her up.
"I don’t know the place so I’d come here for you to take us." She said looking away.
Stefan nodded, keeping his hands behind him that were trembling with both excitement and nervousness.
He had to be careful what he’d speak of with her as they’d be spending more than an hour together.
It was his time to make a better impression and improve their relationship and he worried that he’d mess it up.
Afterwards, Laurel returned to her quarters and stayed with the twins, staring at them while questioning her decision. Shouldn’t she have been straight and reject that request? If someone else like Quincy had seen her with the Alpha, he’d assume that she accepted him.
She sighed and rolled to her back. On the flip point, she could use the chance to uncover his intentions Her wolf was already so involved with him and she wasn’t sure she would hate him forever so she wanted to explore other options.
"Princess Laurel, there’s a mail for you from High Moon Kingdom." A maid knocked on her door.
"Come in with it."
The maid listened and opened the door slowly. She handed the letter to the Princess and waited. Laurel looked at the letter quickly and saw it was an invitation to the King’s dinner party in two days.
She looked at the young girl and she had a worried expression. Laurel flung the letter aside. "Don’t worry, he’s no longer that antagonistic...."
"But what if he still keeps you there?" the young girl asked with a worry laced tone. "Why is he even asking for you there when you’re not like his kind?"
Her words made Laurel remember that not everyone felt the same way about Lycans like she did. She nodded slowly, leaving her bed. Should she try to correct the notion that Lycans were very different? Or should she just let it be because they had good reasons to be worried about Lycans?
"Dear, he’s a Lycan King and I can’t actively reject his offer. Also, I’ll not fall for the same trick again. Thales would be there to teleport me out of the place."
She looked at the letter on the ground. "And in this case, it’s a dinner party so he wants to announce something. He’d barely have any time for me."
The maiden forced a smile. "I hope you’re right. These Lycans cannot be trusted. They’re too violent."
"Probably but not all." Laurel pointed out.
The maid looked up at her with a quizzical expression and the Princess nodded with a knowing look. "At the Lycan Meeting, I found some lycans that my mother worked with, from Lunaria and they were really nice. One even helped me escape from the King."
The Maiden nodded slowly. "So some of them can actually be tolerable?" Her tone was now filled with disbelief.
"You don’t see them all the time, but yes." Laurel smiled. "Most can be tolerable."
Shortly, the maiden left and Laurel fell back to her bed. Despite what she said, if she could avoid going to that dinner party then she would.
If she had to go, she’d drag an official from Black Claws there. Probably Baxter as he’s been bothering her lately.
They’d suffer it together. Or best would be Sorren, since he’d want to hang out with his cousin who’d be with her.
She slept off in that position and the crying of Marino woke her up. She opened her eyes to see Mira nearly stabbing her with a small comb with a pointy edge.
She rolled from her immediately and the girl giggled. She grabbed Marino and petted him, he was touching his arm so she could guess that Mira had poked him with the comb. She snatched the comb from Mira immediately and she made a pouty face. Laurel sighed. That one had reached her mischievous age so quickly.
She carried them both to the bathroom and quickly bath them and left them to reconcile on the bed while she had her own bath. Her eyes kept going outside as she saw the sun down as it had reached evening.
She noticed she was dressing up more quickly then normal and paused. Was she excited about this? No, never. Maybe she just wanted it to be over with.
She nodded at her thoughts and dressed the twins up. They were already hurled inside the heavy mattress because of the cold weather. "Sorry, " she gave them hot snacks from Jessika. "We’d be going to see a new restaurant. Remember, no matter what, don’t tell Zeldris about this okay?"
Mira tilted her head. "No telling?"
Laurel nodded. "No telling."
The girl smiled and Laurel frowned. That smile wouldn’t bring anything good. She repeated again. "No telling." She pointed at Mira. "If you tell, Princess wouldn’t take you to fun place again."
The girl chuckled, while nodding. Laurel mentally face palmed. She should feel worried about not being taken out not laughing about it. The girl was really something.
Laurel covered them with sweaters and sneaked out of the room. She even considered using the window before realizing she was a princess and shouldn’t be so sneaky.
Marino was behind her while Mira clung to her front. She looked around the quarters and only saw the maidens walking around.
She exhaled and walked out and successfully didn’t get any attention on her. Mira raised her hand to wave to someone and Laurel slapped the hand on impulse.
She wanted to apologize to the girl but saw her smiling face. This little girl was really mischievous. She clearly saw her effort not to get any attention yet tried to get attention.
"You little..." she poked her nose and the girl giggled.
She cleared the quarters and looked around for how to get past the border without alerting many eyes on her that’d go to call Zeldris.
"We just need to make it to tree first." She carried the twins on her sides so it’d look more natural.
"And then what?"
Laurel was about to reply when she realized it was Bebe asking. "Kindly return from where you came without acting like you saw us."
Bebe came in front of her with a smile. "Where are you going though? Dressed like you’re heading for a party?"
Laurel looked down at her dress. Did it look that way? She messed up. She only wanted to look good enough to enter another pack as a young leader not as a girl ready for a date.
She sighed and pushed Mira into Bebe’s arms. "Help me take her to the tree out there and leave when you get there. We’re going to a neighboring pack alone."
Bebe hummed, looking at the clothes the twins wore. They were definitely for formal visit.
She wanted to ask if she should come along but the Princess early said to drop Mira and leave so maybe she didn’t want anyone else.
"I hope you find the answer that you’re looking for at the place." Bebe said and walked towards the border.
Laurel nodded to her absent mindedly. It would be great if she made up her mind up totally in this one night out with him. If not, it’d keep bugging her.
"Um... your Highness, about the... mate issues..."
Laurel stiffened before she released herself. "Yes?"
"Jessika wanted to know about it and while I didn’t tell her, she said she’d find out so just in case she speaks to you about it..." Bebe said.
Laurel exhaled. She’d be ready for her when that time comes. Quincy would probably tell her as he’s the broadcasting tower. They reached the border and the Black Claws warriors bowed as she walked out.
Laurel frowned at the unnecessary courtesy and she even saw her own warriors giving the black Claws warriors weird looks. She hoped Stefan didn’t give them any advice that’d be problematic.
