Chapter 388: Redemption II

Chapter Three Hundred-Eighty-Eight – Redemption II

In Laurel’s point of view, all that was left was Lunaria to act accordingly and not provoke King Asher after he had made this big decision to not cause problems.

The Princess held Thales hand.

He’d placed himself in a dangerous position for the sake of the weak when he could already easily protect himself. "Thank you so much."

Thales smiled, a sadness hidden underneath. He lost a lot to get there, including Lady Zara, but he replied after exhaling. "Just doing my duty. You’re welcome."

Laurel left to speak with Jessika about it immediately and Zeldris was left alone with Thales. "Hope everything has been okay?" Thales asked. "I saw Sorren here."

Zeldris opened his mouth to speak but closed it back again because he knew he had to start from the beginning.

He briefly spoke about his connection to Sorren and said he came to see him but had ended up arguing with Quincy before leaving.

Thales was stunned by their connection, he turned towards High Mountains. "I guess lost cousins can be a thing. Lost siblings too, like my sister and I."

"Your sister?"

"Yes, the grand witch that bothered with us. Ella’s mother."

Zeldris jaw fell, he had heard it before but didn’t know who the younger brother was, only that he was just as talented as the Grand Witch.

He looked downwards feeling a kind of kinship with Thales. "You see, I don’t still know how to mend the huge gap on status between Sorren and I. So sometimes, I avoid him."

He remembered how he slipped out during the argument between Quincy and Sorren, and how he had contemplated speaking with Sorren by the door before coming out at first.

The gap was big and they were not of the same specie in some way, they also had different upbringing and were somewhat at opposite sides of a battle, but he really wanted to get close to the only family member still alive and that was willing to be close to him.

He noticed a hand on his shoulders and smiled at Thales. "I guess you can’t relate to that, right? You and your sister are equally amazing."

Thales tilted his head and shook his head slowly. "Not really, I lived in her shadow for quite sometimes before I finally broke out and then messed up, and then got stronger for myself because I needed to be."

That sounded like a whole ’finding myself journey’ and Zeldris thought it was too heavy to say causally.

He didn’t even know the path to follow to find his own self an he had no idea if that’s what he should be doing.

"I want to cast out revenge and hate like King Asher." Zeldris said. "It’s crazy how he’s becoming an inspiration to me."

Thales chuckled, nodding. He wouldn’t have thought in his lifetime that’d he’d feel grateful to that King as well. And because of that, he was more interested in doing something that might help him.

It was a rough guess, but he’d been guessing it for a long time and many reports at Lunaria seemed to be pointing towards it.

He exhaled. "I need to pay Prince Sorren a visit. Wanna come?"

Zeldris looked at Marino in his back and Thales understood. "This isn’t an excuse though, right?"

Zeldris smiled and shrugged. "I wouldn’t even know. A coward like me protects myself with anything close."

Thales didn’t appreciate the self demean but he understood his point. He waved and left for High Mountains.

Meanwhile, at the Lead Hunter’s quarters, a mini party had started after Laurel announced that they were free from King Asher’s oppression.

"Eat all my cakes!" Jessika yelled out with a teary face. "Even if it took me two nights to make just one!"

Laurel laughed as she pushed all the tasty cakes into her mouth. "You serve them... we eat them! No taking back!"

"No taking back!" the girls repeated with a cheer and they were all wild and happy.

Minutes later, Laurel let out a satisfied belch as she fell on Bebe’s bed and tried to digest her food.

A satisfied expression was on her face and she reminisced on how much of a fight it had been to convince King Asher to stop his acts back at the Lycans Meeting.

"So he had been having a change of heart slowly?" She smiled. "I guess redemption can actually happen to the worst of people. Even Stefan... I guess."

She rolled to her sides and folded herself. She shouldn’t be thinking about it so hardly but she couldn’t help herself. Could she really have a future with Stefan?

"Princess?"

She sat up and forced a smile. "Hey, Bebe. Crashing in your room for a bit. I heard you weren’t around."

Bebe fell on the bed, "Yeah, I went to help Prince Sorren handle his sick." She rolled in her bed. "It’s so soft, isn’t it?"

Laurel smirked. "Mine is better."

They shared a laugh, then Laurel stood up to leave. If she stayed for longer she might spill what’s on her mind.

"I heard about your mate."

Laurel’s legs frozen when she hears that, and she literally fell to the ground. That Quincy! She didn’t think he’d be a blabber mouth. Now more people than she could handle were hearing all about it.

Bebe reached to help her up. "I was truly surprised because you never treated him like he was even worth speaking to politely. I didn’t want to believe Quincy but why would he lie about that?"

Laurel reached for Bebe’s hand and sat on the bed, holding her face in her hand. She couldn’t place why she felt ashamed but she really wanted to disappear at that point.

Her mate was a totally unexpected choice and no matter who heard it had the same thoughts. It was an odd choice and meeting your mate officially in a prison and having him do all thing to you wasn’t the least romantic.

She wasn’t masochistic to accept him after all that!
