Chapter Thirty-Six – Chore

"The next time..." Laurel panted. ".... I meet Frida... I really want to... punch her so hard....she’d....she’d...." Her legs gave up and she fell face down.

Valkyrie stood above her, with a disappointed expression. "That Prince Sorren said ’running around this quarters ten times’ is your duty, every three hours."

The words leaving Valkyrie’s lips made her reconsider. "Well, it sounds tough but it’s like training. If you want to touch Frida, you should, at least, run seven times. This is only your fourth."

Only her fourth? Laurel guffawed. Of course, it’d sound easy coming from a Lead warrior. She’s to run ten times around a plot of land at top speed. She laid on her back, gazing at the skies. "At least, this is the only chore I have. I shouldn’t be complaining."

Valkyrie studied her, before laying down with her. "It is strange that this is your only chore."

Was this it? Laurel gulped down saliva. Had it come to the time when she’ll be asked why Sorren was being easy on her so she’d reply with ’Sigma is my mate’?

It was so stupid because the moon goddess’ reputation would be soiled. She didn’t have such bad taste to pair them together. Laurel waited for Valkyrie to ask.

"Well, it’s not like your chore isn’t a chore. At least, that Prince is unknowingly training you. You were never trained before. This is great." Valkyrie chuckled lowly.

The fact she was training was great, not the training itself. But Laurel smiled. "Hmm! It definitely feels great." She finalized that Valkyrie might not be interested in how she got herself there and more on the future.

She’d adopt the mentality too and work on getting stronger now that she was give the chance to. Forcing herself up, she went for her fifth lap.

Few minutes later, she walked back into the maid quarters, sweating profusely. Her legs wobbled and every step seemed heavier than the last. She had gone outside the quarters to be able to cover the whole surrounding.

The maids gave her pitiful looks as she walked in, they wondered what sort of strenuous duty she was assigned. They guessed because she was the princess, her duty would be harsher since the new government hated her.

Laurel noticed the looks but was too tired to react. If it’d make the maids find her more relatable, then it was best. Sorren really knew how to plan things out.

There was a knock on her door just when she was about dozing off. "Yeah, come in."

Lia walked in, her head down. "Your highness." She held a lunchbox. "Prince Sorren said your feeding schedule would be the same in here. Here."

Eh? Laurel glared at the girl. "I eat only twice a day."

Lia looked up. "Oh, that’s good then. Here we eat once."

Laurel’s lips tighten. "Oh." She should have accepted her fate without complaining, it’s not like the girl could change Sorren’s mind.

Lia dropped the lunchbox and walked away. Laurel shut her eyes again. This new life wasn’t bad, just double the stress. She jumped from her bed and sat on the window. "At least, I can easily see the sky here."

Below her window were the guard that watched over their quarters. Laurel saw a maid sweeping the entrance and the guards touching her inappropriately. The maid winced and moved away, but she still stayed close to finish her sweeping duties.

"They should let her work." Elma seethed. "These scums. Someone needs to teach them. Let’s go down there." Laurel only watched pitifully. Go down there and do what? Sorren had already told her not to impose on the guards. Also, these ones were Black Claws Warriors. Even if they were werewolves and not Lycans, it’d still be preposterous to dare them.

"I’d look away from this one, Elma. This isn’t what I can help in. I’m sorry." She left the window.

"Ahh! Please... stop."

Laurel rushed back to the window and her eyes bulged. Where they... trying to rape her there? The three of them? They tugged at her dress and one pinned her to a wall.

Laurel looked down and found that the main door was closed so no one could see what was happening except for her at a window.

Whilst groaning in frustration, Laurel jumped down from the window crashing on a metallic stand where the warrior kept their swords. The warriors turned on hearing the sound. Laurel forced herself to her feet, holding a sword.

"Excuse me. I accidentally fell from the window." She said, glaring at them. "I’m trying to meet with my friend here." She pointed the maid.

The maid was already in tears. She was still pinned to the wall by one of them. "Could you kindly move and let her finish her duties?" Laurel tried to be polite.

"Huh?" one of the warriors marched towards her. "How dare you tell us what to do, you little..."

"Ah, I hoped that if I told you nicely, you’d kindly oblige." Laurel faked a smile. "I’m not ordering, I’m asking. Nicely."

The one who pinned the maid had let go of the girl and was bouncing towards Laurel.

Laurel exhaled, relieved that the maid was free. She concentrated and tried something that Valkyrie had taught her while she ran. "Sweep quickly so we’d go inside. I’d hold them off for you." She spoke through mind link.

It was her first time, ever. The maid looked at her, upon hearing her voice. Laurel still wore her fake smile so the maid smiled back.

The smile immediately washed off Laurel’s face when she received a slap by the warrior bouncing to her.

He smirked, reaching for her neck. "You are the Princess, right? How dare you speak or show this ugly face to us?"

It was the first time she was described as ugly. No one really cared to rub on her face how she looked, whether beautiful or not.

She knew she didn’t look amazing. Black long hair, green eyes and slightly pale skin with bruises. "Eh..." Laurel looked up at the man. "You think I’m ugly?"

That wasn’t the reaction the warrior expected from a girl he just slapped. Annoyed, he pushed her back.

"You little bitch! Yes, you’re ugly. And I’m going to teach you what happened to ugly girls." He began to unbuckle his belt.
