Chapter 259: A Witch’s Blood
Chapter Two Hundred-Fifty-Nine – A Witch’s Blood
The building was empty, odd as it had never happened before. Laurel locked her room for the first time in a while.
Little Marino and Mira had gone to see their friends and Laurel paced around doing nothing, it felt unfair since the kids should console her when she had nothing to do.
They grew up too fast.
She exhaled, carrying the basket Jessika handed her, filled with the new snacks she tried out. Since there was nothing else to do, the Princess could only think of Zeldris.
Sitting alone by the entrance of the prison, guarding Bebe, if not Laurel knew how he was, she could have chided him on having a crush on Bebe.
"Zel!" she yelled when she sighted him, she noticed him jump and rolled her eyes. "Passing the night here again?"
He scattered the sticks he played with out of boredom. "I wish not but what can I do? I’m a gentleman that can’t afford to leave a lady alone at night."
That was creepy without context, Laurel thought. She kept the basket by his leg and placed an ear over the door. "Did you hear anything? She could be conscious."
As she leaned on the door, it gave way making her fall inside. She hurriedly took Zeldris’s hand and pulled herself up. "Did you know it was open?"
"No idea." Zeldris looked around the place. "You should stand back in case my theory is right and she attacks you."
Laurel walked forward, following Bebe’s scent. "So she should attack you? Ah, yes, you like the pain."
Zeldris exhaled, that’s not his point at all. He was her knight, or had she forgotten already?
He watched her walk in and remembered Sorren’s words that once she got stronger, she’d have no need of him. That’d be really sad if it happened.
"Zeldris?" Laurel turned to see him still at the door. She caught Bebe’s scent ahead and heard some sounds that showed that she awoke.
She watched him follow her in and she continued towards Bebe. She saw the girl rush to the bars as she got close.
"Bebe, are you ok—"
"Princess!!!" Bebe collapsed after a loud wail.
Her hair flew at different directions and a stench came from her for having no contact with water for a day while sitting in the stinking prison.
Her dress was stained with blood and moist from the wet walls. It reminded Laurel of her horrible days.
Zeldris ran to them and was stunned to see Bebe sprawled on the ground, crying. "Is she...?"
Laurel finally smiled, watching her. At least the girl was alive and not under any magic control so she could be out.
"Yeah, she’s fine." She bent down towards the girl. "Bebe, what happened to you? Do you remember anything?"
Bebe rolled towards her, shaking her head, "I have no idea, Princess. It was as if I had been asleep."
Zeldris bent down towards her, forcing a smirk. "Then this will hurt your heartstrings because you tried killing your Prince Sorren."
Bebe’s jaw slowly fell as a horrified expression consumed her face, she snapped her head to Laurel who nodded.
"I-I-I tried to... to kill—" she passed out.
Laurel broke into a bust of laughter that echoed around the prison building and confused Zeldris. What was funny? He didn’t get these girls at all.
Still, he couldn’t help but appreciate that the magic control on her didn’t work. Bebe would’ve been in a lot of trouble, and he’d be in a lot of depression.
Laurel stopped laughing and suddenly broke the chain that tied the prison door. Zeldris snapped from his thoughts and pulled her hand.
"What are you doing? You hand will..." he checked her palm. "bleed...? It didn’t bleed."
Laurel pulled her hand back, smirking. "It’s not bread." And did he really expect her to have soft white hands like other princesses? He really had high hopes on her.
Zeldris scoffed, her hand looked that soft to him. "Still, shouldn’t you tell the Alpha you’d be taking her instead of breaking her out?"
Laurel carried Bebe in her arms, then paused. "Go and tell him then. And when you’re done," she faced him, "you’d tell me about your non-existent cousin."
He looked away, but he had been hoping she’d ask. The only reason he didn’t say anything before was due to how shocked he was.
"Years back, my aunt and her child had visited my mother and I at Jappongi where we were setting out as the Grand Witch’s entourage." He leaned on a wall.
Laurel carefully dropped Bebe on the ground and sat by her. Since he spoke of an aunt’s child so the cousin should exist, right?
"I remember seeing that Elder then, he didn’t change till now, and when I asked about my cousin, well, it was a boy." Zeldris slid to the ground. "That Prince Sorren."
Laurel’s small smile faded. Sorren?
"It’s crazy that I thought it was girl with a grumpy look. It was actually a boy with long hair and a grumpy look. He was a Prince so had fair skin... I get it all now."
The Princess left where she sat, staring down at Zeldris. She continued in his mind link because of the next thing she wanted to say.
"So you mean Sorren’s mother was your aunt, and a... witch, right? You come from a family of witches!"
She almost panicked now. Did Sorren know? He definitely didn’t if he was so guarded against witches while having one’s blood running in his veins.
"His mother dropped magic long before she seduced the lycan King. I thought my cousin acted like a lycan while being werewolf, but he’s actually half-lycan. I’m so stupid."
Laurel disconnected her mind link immediately, staring at nothing. What should she do with this information? Nothing, right? No one needed to know.
Will the warriors that loved Sorren still accept him as the son of a witch? Did Stefan know? Surely not if even Sorren didn’t know.
"Are you sure?" she asked out loud.
Zeldris nodded, a part of him noticed when he met the Prince but he assumed it was his pretty face forcing him to feel safe around him.
Thankfully, Bebe didn’t kill the only family he had in the world, or he’d have fallen into depression. "Either way, I’m happy about it. It’s still my cousin."
(Author’s Note: So the mysterious cousin had been found but it’s not who they were expecting. Happy Reading!)
