Chapter 228: Tell

Chapter Two Hundred-Twenty-Eight – Tell

Laurel and Zeldris walked out of the Delta’s quarters when Dylan returned. He had thanked the Princess again and informed that Beta Cade will begin investigation.

But Laurel knew they’d probably not get much.

Zeldris studied her before coming closer. "Do you know who attacked them? You seem to. Why didn’t you tell?"

"I can’t tell them because it’s not my business."

Zeldris’s eyes lit up, then he smiled. Of course, it wasn’t her business. What ever happened to those lycans wouldn’t directly affect Green Valleys.

"So you know?"

"Why don’t you believe it’s rogues, though?" Laurel turned to him. "Did you notice something yourself?"

The knight stepped away from her, looking away.

Laurel scoffed. Did he want her to beg for the information when she didn’t even need it?

The Rolling Stones Alpha had employed really talented assassins to handle the Lycans, and since they were able to hurt Sigma, that meant they were no common rogues.

That was a basic understanding anyone would have after seeing that case, so it’s probably how Zeldris knew too.

"You can keep what you know. There’s no need to think about it. As I said to her, her plan will fail. Sorren only noticed late this time but they’d be alert now."

Zeldris hummed, coming close to her.

"This is different. Those assassins can come in front of the Alpha and it’s only when they attack that he’d know that they’re danger."

Laurel raised a brow. He spoke like he knew the assassins. She noticed he smiled on seeing her inquisitive expression. "Fine, tell me."

Zeldris chuckled, then stopped walking and faced the Delta’s quarters that they just left. "Those were witches."

Laurel’s hands fell to her sides. How did they get so close into this place? Ella was a different case.

"How do I know?" Zeldris smirked. "Those fire marks. They were caused by heat magic, not fire. I’ve seen it a lot while I was test subject. It never burns completely."

Why was heat magic like fire? But Laurel knew that wasn’t the pending question. Why did the Rolling Stones’ Alpha go as far as employing witches!

She really meant what she said.

"We might need to tell our mate about this, right?" Elma hoped for Laurel’s cooperation.

Laurel exhaled, staring at the ground. Witches were different from rogues or regular assassins. If these ones were witches that were like assassins, it’d be harder.

"Well, the lycans here are definitely going to have a hard time, wouldn’t they?" Zeldris continued to Valkyrie’s quarters.

Laurel faced the direction to the palace, but then turned back, following Zeldris back. Elma forced herself to slumber, but Laurel tried to not let it bother her.

Even if she goes to tell them it’s the Rolling Stones’ Alpha, she couldn’t skip the ’assassin witches’ part.

And questions will rise on how she knew? ’My knight’s mother was a witch’ will only put Zeldris in trouble.

At Valkyrie’s quarters, Laurel found Bebe waiting for her. She had a troubled expression. "Princess, that Alpha had attacked High Mountains, everyone is talking about—"

"So what do you want to do about it?"

Bebe stared at the Princess in disbelief. "What do you... we should tell that it’s the Rolling Stones Alpha..."

"And then?" Laurel walked past her. "They attack her pack but she’d escape and the wolves you are to lead one day will become victims?"

Bebe hesitated before replying. "I can tell the Alpha that the people are innocent. Don’t you want to tell him—"

"Why should she care?" Zeldris came before Bebe. "I heard before that you aren’t from this pack, is that why you don’t understand how horrible Lycans are?"

Even Zeldris wasn’t originally from the pack, he was part of Green Valleys when the raid happened while serving as Elder Baka’s slave, so he knew what the pack suffered.

Bebe frowned, folding her arms. "I have experienced first hand how horrible a Lycan can be. But also a werewolf. One lycan doesn’t representative all. You’re not ten."

Zeldris found himself going back as Bebe brushed past him to where Laurel sat. "You really don’t want to tell?" she asked again.

Laurel searched for Elma. The wolf wouldn’t speak with her till she handled this, and if by any chance something happened to their mate, she’d lock her out.

"It’s okay if you want to, Bebe. I told the Alpha I wouldn’t tell and I want to keep my word. You’re free too." She replied. "Remember to add that the people are innocent. And tell Sorren. The Alpha isn’t very understanding."

Bebe smiled brightly and nodded. She spun around and hurried to the door.

"Add that they might be fighting witches."

Bebe paused, as she nearly walked past the door. She turned to Zeldris with a slight frown. "Seriously, witches?"

"If you want them to end up as roast meat like the Delta there, then omit that part." Zeldris shrugged. "It’s your choice. I said what I said."

On hearing about Sigma, Bebe became more serious. That muscle head was outdone by a witch? How did Prince Sorren fare? She sped out of the quarters.

Laurel sighed, in relief. She didn’t know why.

"Princess, are you supposed to be close to the Alpha?" Zeldris closed the door Bebe left half open. "That girl spoke like you’d be betraying them if you didn’t tell."

Laurel rubbed her neck, not knowing how to start. "When I found her at High Moon, Prince Sorren had been in a good mood so doted on her. And I’m quite close to Sorren."

Zeldris nodded. He hadn’t seen that Prince but Valkyrie had said he was the most tolerable amongst the Lycans.

Jessika had said he was really good-looking, and Lisa had said that the Prince helped the Princess sometimes.

"Close to him, how?" Zeldris wore a suspicious expression. "You weren’t his prize after war, right?"

As if she looked that good, Laurel thought. Sorren would only need manure and farm hands and would get them in any coldblooded or wicked way ever.

"He found me interesting because he’s awfully bored." Laurel sighed. "Even in dangerous situations, he gets a kick out of it. This might not be an exception."

Zeldris nodded, looking up as he thought. A Prince that got a kick out of dangerous situations? Didn’t he have the heart of a warrior? Or a psychopath perhaps?

He didn’t look forward to meeting that one.
