Chapter 180: Dark and Silent
Chapter Hundred-Eighty – Dark
Jessika gave the Princess side glances as Laurel mouthed incoherent words while plotting to herself.
Valkyrie would also cajole the Lead Warrior to make the General accept the offer. Laurel mused, a wide grin on her face irrespective of those watching her.
They reached a huge mansion that looked like one-third of the palace, the palace was greatly huge with four major quarters and numerous courtyards.
Jessika’s mouth dropped when the little girl showing them Elder Baka’s house stopped there. That huge place belonged to that wicked elder?
Laurel looked around the house and didn’t find a single farm around it. How did he sustain his household at such a big house if there was no farm?
She tried walking in and she was stunned to find Black Claws warriors guarding it. As she had thought, that stupid Elder sided with Black Claws over his own people.
It’d be slightly different if he only did it to save his head during the raid, but for him to have Black Claws warriors at his home, then he had been helping Black Claws.
She was the Princess but knew nothing about it. This old men really didn’t give a damn about her.
Jessika stuck by the Princess as she strolled into the building, ignoring the Black Claws warriors who didn’t say anything to her.
They knew it was better to just let the Princess see the Elder instead of getting a black eye.
Jessika was surprised that they weren’t stopped, she hurried ahead and opened the door for the Princess to keep going in.
However, when they were gone inside. The Black Claws warriors quickly dispersed, not wanting to be part of what would happen next.
Inside the building was dark and Jessika held unto the Princess again. Why could have such a big building not have a single window?
"Princess, should I—"
Jessika immediately reached for her throat. How could it be? She couldn’t hear her own voice!
She realized she couldn’t hear her footsteps either.
Was it the soft carpet underneath them or there was something else playing here? Her hand tightened around the Princess and at that moment, Laurel stopped moving.
Jessika’s eyes expanded as he felt the Princess’ claws crawl out of their place. She still couldn’t see the Princess’ face or whatever threat that made her alert.
Laurel pushed Jessika back as she raised her hand to block the kick. Jessika heard a faint thud, then another thud when she fell almost noiselessly.
This wasn’t natural. She peaked her warrior instincts to the top. If this was an ambush, she had to protect the Princess, despite their disadvantageous situation.
The Princess shouldn’t even be handling such situations personally, due to the dangers, she should have an elite force that she could trust.
Because if the Princess die, Green Valleys’ will fall to the Lycans and that scared Jessika more than anything.
Laurel found herself struggling against this ambusher forcing their leg down on her hand.
How was there someone this strong in Green Valleys and wasn’t amongst the warriors?
She jumped back when she couldn’t block anymore, but then her insides twisted in pain when a palm striked her stomach, pushing her back.
She stopped herself to avoid hitting Jessika. Her lower body was strained from trying to stop that axe kick. In sheer strength alone, this ambusher surpassed her.
So she’d have to use whatever techniques she knew to overpower them.
She caught their scent coming to her again and Laurel pushed Jessika back so she wouldn’t get hit.
Following the ambusher’s scent, she blocked their next hand swing. With the ambusher in close proximity, she used her knee to strike their lower abdomen.
The effect, mixed with surprise, effectively moved them back and with the little space between them, she swung her leg in the air, landing a roundhouse kick on their head.
But it hit their neck, missing due to her shortage of sight.
Laurel deduced this ambusher would be much taller than her since her stretched leg didn’t effectively hit his head. She jumped back, then lunged forward with her claws.
Her ambusher must have recovered quickly because they weren’t where she expected them to be. She had to timely dodge another palm strike from him.
She clicked her tongue, trying to deduce where next he’d come from. And why the hell was there an ambusher here?
"Those elders want to kill me, huh?"
She had been noticing her movements didn’t make a sound so she didn’t mind speaking to nobody. This was probably influenced by some kind of magic.
She could still sense the ambusher around her, but she’d rather wait for his attack, at least, till Jessika did it.
Laurel bent her body back as their leg swung across her face. That was really close.
She fell to the ground and used both her legs to hit the leg supporting the ambusher as he kicked.
She used great strength and heard the light thud. She sprang from the ground immediately and stomped on their chest, repeatedly, so they’d stay down.
She noticed them move and heavily stomped on their head. They stopped moving, she guessed passed out.
She breathed heavily, moving away a little.
At that moment, there was a crashing sound as a part of the wall of the building fell, causing an opening that ushered in light and ability to hear sounds.
Jessika ran to Lisa who had brought the explosives used. It was Laurel’s timely last plan when she pushed Jessika back.
A miracle had happened at that time.
She was able to mind link Jessika. And Jessika could contact Lisa as they were already linked. Laurel couldn’t have linked Lisa while fighting.
Her eyes shifted to the ambusher underneath her.
It was a slender man, half his hair covered his face and there was a metallic mask over his forehead, eyes and stopping at the bridge of his nose.
Was he an assassin? Was that why he covered his face? He was definitely taller than her. She noticed the sword on his waist. It was an averagely designed sword.
Lisa ran to the Princess, holding a bottled liquid. She paused on seeing the ambusher. Jessika ran to them after making sure no other threat was close.
Laurel pulled the sword from his waist and slid it open, the stinging smell of wolfsbane hit her nose. Indeed she would have died here. She dropped the sword.
Then why didn’t the ambusher use it? It’d have really gotten to her as she couldn’t see or hear anything.
"Princess..."
Laurel turned to Lisa, who met her gaze.
"I know him. He’s... he’s a slave to one of the elders. He probably didn’t want to do this."
Slave? Laurel’s face contorted to a frown.
