Chapter 158: Cara

Chapter Hundred-Fifty-Eight – Cara

(At High Mountains Pack)

It was the fifteenth home that Sorren had to visit to ’give blessings to the moon goddess’, a tradition from old Black Claws Kingdom, used to bless a new house.

Only problem was, the houses were rebuilt, not new. Yet, Sorren couldn’t disappoint the people as their caretaker.

He made a small bow to the elderly lady whose home he just left. At least, her home wasn’t a total bore, with many flowers around it.

He searched his mind link and there was no other person on his link, he stretched his neck, while walking back to his quarters. "I’d so kill Cade for stressing me like this."

The sun was high and sweat beads fell from his forehead, he sighed a million times before he reached his quarters and plopped down on a chair to rest.

It was quiet, too lonely. Maybe Bebe being around had rubbed off on him so he expected a scream every now and then.

He stretched again, looking at the rising sun.

Someone noiselessly climbed the stairs to his quarter, he kept his eyes on the sun, waiting for her to get close. He didn’t mind any visitors, no matter how unnecessary.

The lady bowed to him, her night black hair falling to the side in a straight line. "Good to see you, Prince Sorren."

It passed by Sorren’s mind if she wanted him to bless a rebuilt house of hers, but he guessed the possibility was low. It’s best to live at Green Valleys with her brother.

"Long time, Cara." He said formally.

By his knowledge, she was three years older than her brother, Cade, so she’d be four years older than him.

Since she had been in charge of taming her feral younger brother, he added more respect in his tone when speaking with her.

Cara raised her head, her yellow eyes curving like a smile as a smile graced her soft face. "Yes, long time."

"Do you need something?" Sorren turned to her. She hadn’t aged much, but then it’s just a year ago.

"Oh, that’s my question for you. Do you need something?" she tilted her head. "I’m aware you came here recently."

From her knowledge of him, he was the spoilt prince who couldn’t even bathe himself. She’s willing to support him with mundane tasks till he got to his feet. And more.

But Sorren looked uninterested. He couldn’t place why she’d want to help him suddenly and he didn’t want it.

Those kind of favors had to be rewarded. And the only help he needed was in his new farm but she’d probably be too neat for that. "I don’t need anything. Thank you."

Cara’s shoulders fell. "Oh."

She looked around, hoping to find something that’d prove her wrong but the place was oddly well arranged.

"If you are trying to ask about Cade, then he’s doing well." Sorren folded his arms. "Too well in fact."

Cara rested on the wall by Sorren. "I didn’t come for him today. Whatever he did with his life is his business."

Sorren smirked. "Even Cade’s sister didn’t like him. Must be so difficult."

Cara left the hall, worried that she might have given the wrong impression. "I’m not a difficult girl, Prince Sorren."

Sorren raised a brow. When did he ever mention that?

Cara slapped her chest. "I’m actually the most agreeable person you’d ever meet, Prince Sorren."

Sorren moved an inch away from her. Why did she so aggressively fight over that when he didn’t say so?

Like her brother, she was intense, in annoying ways.

When she finally stopped rattling, Sorren heaved a sigh of relief, before asking. "What do you plan to achieve, Cara?"

He watched her face flush and she bit her lips, looking away. He frowned, returning his eyes to the rising sun.

"You haven’t answered me, Cara?"

She noticed he dropped the polite tone he spoke in. She always wondered why he spoke that way with her.

"Nothing really. Only hoping we’d be close. We’re similar in age after all."

Sorren hid the slight moment of convulsion he had when she said that. Four years was similar in age? Or he didn’t know her age. "Really?"

"Yes," Cara forced a smile, "I’d like to be useful to you like my twin is to you." She bowed again. "Let me know when you need help."

Twin? Sorren hid his surprise again. He never really cared about the Beta’s family but he was sure Cade had an older sibling who raised him after the war.

But in this scenario, Sorren believed the female before him could be telling the truth. Not like it’d be special to lie.

"You should visit Green Valleys and stay with Cade." He replied. "Be useful, assigning servants within the palace."

Cara snapped her head to him. "And Lady Jade..?"

"Go there to find out." Sorren left where he sat.

Cara looked down, a sly grin creeping to her lips, and her real emotions showing as she backed the Prince.

If Sorren was stubborn, and the Alpha didn’t have the werewolf bitch by his side, then she had a chance.

Some kind of miracle had made her brother, a commoner, become a Beta. The same miracle could make her the Prince’s wife or the Alpha’s Luna.

But when she tried moving, she noticed a hand hold her arm. Her grin widened. Was Prince Sorren finally giving in? She smiled at him. "Yes, your high—"

"I forgot to add," Sorren glared at her darkly, "... keep your presence only at Cade’s quarters and our servants. Don’t bother the Alpha, Delta or Green Valleys."

Her arm shivered and when he dropped it, she held it close to her chest, looking at him with furrowed brows.

Sorren smiled. "I believe we have an understanding, Cara." He returned the polite tone he spoke with.

Cara glanced away, but nodded. "Y-Yes, Prince Sorren. I don’t plan to cause trouble for anyone." She said that while cursing internally.

The Prince nodded. And she better remember that.
