Chapter 154: Meeting

Chapter Hundred-Fifty-Four – Meeting

Those two at the same time. Laurel wrapped her ponytail into a bun, then replaced the heavy pins on her hair.

If she’s meeting those two, then she should look the princess part. "Why did they come with no notice?"

Her eyes went to the twins and only after confirming they were eating their meal quietly, without touching their sweet, did she leave.

She had noticed they didn’t like eating, if a bribe wasn’t in front of them, Matt had been a really doting big brother.

The hall at her quarters were usually used by the twins to play tag, she never thought she’d actually use it to host officials.

But after taking Stefan to her bedroom and realizing how awkward it was, she decided to leave meetings at the hall.

She strode in with a high head, letting the long lace of her dress sweep behind her. There were candles lit around the hall, even if it’s morning.

Waste of resources but they added to the ’touch’ of the hall, like Bebe had said. It felt to Laurel like she played princess because she didn’t have much clue on things.

She sighted the two standing in front of the big seat she was supposed to be on.

Sigma, as usual, had a bored expression yet would unexpectedly punch you if he felt like it. The other one was a new face, a handsome new face.

Laurel hastened her steps, smiling when they noticed her. This should be the new lead warrior, she had remembered that Sigma spoke of his coming and that they’re cousins.

The young man didn’t look the cousin part but if he was anything like Beta Cade, like Sigma had said then, Laurel really needed someone to be on his good part.

"Good day, gentlemen—"

"Whoa, a real princess." Baxter nudged his cousin, wearing big smiles. It was his first time seeing one.

At old Black Claws Kingdom, the King only had two sons, no matter how much Sorren played the princess part.

"Good morning, gentlemen." Laurel continued her greeting, with a slightly annoyed tone. "Delta Sigma, I hear you urgently needed my attention. If it’s about the list of—"

"Yes, it is." Sigma interrupted. "Hand it over please, I’m falling asleep here." He groaned.

The princess frowned. She shouldn’t expect Sigma to grow courtesy out of nowhere even if she’s a princess.

She shifted her gaze to the lead warrior, he had a small frown looking at Sigma. He didn’t support his impolite tone towards a princess, right?

Laurel faced him. "Well, the list for the officials isn’t ready yet. There’s nothing I can do but ask you to return later."

Sigma leaned forward. "Huh? That’s a lot of work."

Laurel shrugged.

Sorren wasn’t here to throw things on her head for ordering his son about so she could as well leverage on that. "Then do the work, Delta."

Sigma’s sighed, leaning back. "You’re being mean for someone with cockroaches on their hair—"

"I think what he means is..." Baxter quickly held Sigma’s shoulders so he’d stop talking.

Laurel frowned. Cockroaches? Is that what her called her butterfly pins? Well, he probably hadn’t seen them before, since Sorren mainly used flowery pins.

"Sorry, about that." Baxter kept Sigma behind him. "But what we came for is list of the armory for Green Valleys."

The Princess’ eyes widened. Could Stefan had accepted the Rolling Stones’ offer to be an ally already? Then she should respond positively.

"I’d draft it immediately."

Baxter nodded, "Then, I’d send a warrior to take it from you in the next half an hour. It’s important that the Delta submits it." He glanced at Sigma who wasn’t listening.

To Laurel, the lead warrior wasn’t so bad, and not like Cade. He could hold a conversation and knew how to put Sigma on a leash. If anything, he was a bit like Sorren.

"Maybe Sigma comparing him with Cade was how he felt about him, not how he actually was." Laurel thought. "He doesn’t like Cade so that explained it."

Baxter tried to leave with Sigma, before he remembered the incident outside the building. He’d still need to pass by the young Beta sword training.

He faced the princess. "I ask because you’re the princess, but do you know if the young Beta has problems with our Delta here? He seemed displeased to see him."

Laurel faked a smile. The children of the Beta would always have problems with Sigma.

Frida’s latest trick might’ve been to call Sigma out.

Laurel had heard from Jessika that Sigma tried fighting her father but got badly injured, before Stefan came. The Beta should be by the Alpha’s side at all times, so Sigma must have gone through him before meeting her father.

The young Beta had taken notice of Cade but didn’t show any resentment, just caution, so Laurel deduced he’d know that it’s Sigma who killed his family.

Stefan had mainly gone after the Alpha and any other warrior that hindered him.

"Well, what can I say..." Laurel’s smile widened. "He probably hates the Delta for killing his parents."

Baxter’s hands fell. Killing his parents? He clenched his teeth. "My cousin would never—"

"Oh, in the raid?" Sigma asked. "Hmm... I can’t remember who but I just followed Cade’s orders. I even killed a kid, you see, a little girl." He said the last part quite sadly.

Laurel narrowed her eyes at him. The little girl must’ve been Sir Darren’s younger sister, the only daughter of Silent River Pack. She was at the ball that day.

Baxter took a step back, the realization hitting him hardly. This was a raided pack, so indeed, the people here suffered loss from their hand.

"You see, even our lead warrior lost a parent, I did too, it’s just how war is." Laurel left her smile on her face.

But it haunted Baxter.

That’s exactly what happened at his own pack. And the lead warrior too? That’s why she disliked him?

"I didn’t know..."

"Does it matter?" Laurel’s smile finally faded. "Such is war... and revenge."
