Chapter Hundred-Fourteen – Debate II
There was silence in the room.
Cade stood up. "Are you threatening us? I know you had nothing to do with the attack since you were away but that’s insensitive of you to say something like that!"
Stefan stared at Laurel. Well, it’s not like it was his first time hearing her speak so insensitivity about death.
"You act like my warriors weren’t killed as well." Laurel kept her voice low. "It’s how war is. But we can prevent that. My vengeful warriors aren’t the only ones too."
Why did that sound like those warriors were still out there? Cade narrowed his eyes at her, then sat down.
"Green Valleys was a Kingdom with three packs, we had allies too." Laurel said. "They might not act now because I’m still alive, but they could attack."
Because she was still alive? Then Stefan remembered. An ally of a pack or Kingdom could not act even if it’s ally was conquered except when there’s no heir to throne.
They could then avenge their ally and protect the people as a town or pack, depending on size, under them.
Which meant, they were spies from those allied packs who made sure Laurel still lived.
Stefan stared at his hands. If she had died... more or less, if he had given in to his thoughts and killed her, many allies of Green Valleys would have attacked them.
And considering her pack was a Kingdom, other powerful Kingdoms and packs might be their ally.
"Damancas is an ally of Green Valleys." Laurel added and she saw the fear that flickered in Cade’s eyes.
She pointed at the curtain. "Didn’t you recognize it?"
Sorren exhaled. He recognized it but didn’t think much of it. To get a gift that had witch’s charm, you must be related to the witch or have an important relationship with them, like an ally.
"You are no longer providing reasons but threatening." Cade said, but he was calmer now. Laurel smirked.
"Not at all. These are reasons, just a tad bit scary." She replied with lowered head. "I think Green Valleys being a pack under Black claws will benefit us and you as well."
Laurel was definitely not an innocent girl as he thought. Stefan finger tapped the table.
The smirk on her face that she hid with a lowered head, she knew what she wanted and was going for it. In fact, she had gotten it.
If not that he currently stood at the receiving end of her plans, he’d have deemed it really impressive, attractive in some other sense.
Sorren’s heavy sigh made them all turn to him. He got up and Laurel feared the worst. Was he going to raise a bigger point that’d diminish hers?
"Sigma, let’s go to the garden. I think a flower is sprouting today."
Laurel paused.
Sigma jumped from his seat "Okay! Um... we’re done, right..." as he spoke, he got pulled by Sorren to outside.
Laurel looked at the rest. Did that mean they agree? Did that mean her people can live as a pack in their land!
She heard Cade huff. "Don’t expect me to give you any respect as the leader of the pack."
They accepted!
Laurel raised her head proudly. "Just call me princess, that’s enough, Cade." The Beta balled his fists then walked out of the room.
Laurel’s eyes followed him, a smile plastered on her face. She had won! She had won this round! Even against Sorren.
"Actually, I feel he didn’t even have much to say." Elma countered. "Maybe he let you win. He looked bored."
Laurel’s shut her eyes. "Let me praise myself, Elma."
She realized she wasn’t yet alone and turned to him. He was the Alpha of the pack and could decide that all her points were unimportant.
"D-Do you a-agree?" she hated that she stuttered.
His eyes shifted to her then away, staring into space. "Your points are compelling. It doesn’t really matter if I agree. They’d be trouble if I don’t."
Laurel nodded. "That’s true."
Stefan frowned. "You were supposed to disagree."
Laurel froze. "Eh?"
"You were supposed to disagree, Laurel." Elma groaned. "You agreeing that they’d be trouble is like a threat."
Was it? Laurel looked up, finding the right words. "Um... mean, well... they’d be no trouble per say but it’s good you agreed even if they wouldn’t be any trouble. Right?"
She glanced at him and found a smile on his face. Did he mock her? She left her seat, quite huffy.
"Either ways, you don’t have to worry about my people. We’ve been surviving here, I’d make sure we keep doing so. Lest I add, I hope your survivors let my people accommodate them. It’d be bad for fights to break out."
Stefan’s smile widened. She already spoke like a leader. "What are you then? Their Alpha—"
"I’d grow into it." She interrupted.
His smile fell. He turned to her. That’s supposed to be a joke. If she became their Alpha, that’d make the pack a Kingdom as it had two existing packs in it.
He had thought of moving his survivors to High Mountains Pack since it had larger landscape. It was also an attempt to curtail any fight between Green Valleys.
His main quarters will remain in Green Valleys and he’d finally be able to force Sorren to do actual official work by sending him to High Mountains to monitor them.
Yet, Stefan knew it’d make the pack some of kind of Kingdom as it had two packs existing in it.
If Laurel be Alpha, he’d be an Alpha King, further consolidating it as a Kingdom because a pack couldn’t have two packs.
Which also meant he’d have to move out of Green Valleys at some point for the Alpha to take over.
Stefan wasn’t ready for that, and that was because, a Kingdom was a big deal. They’d have enemies and he currently didn’t have good enough battle force.
"You miss the important thing in this." Kai said to him. "If our mate becomes Alpha, she can never be with us. Her people will never let her be with us."
Laurel folded her arms seeing he was thinking for long. "I’d take my leave first, Alpha."
Stefan looked away. "Do as you like."
Laurel shrugged then walked away. "Good bye then."
"Stefan, you have to stop her from being Alpha! At least, till you correct your actions and somehow get her people to like you!" Kai raised his voice.
Stefan groaned, his head falling back. "You know it, Kai. You know that’s impossible now."
