Chapter 112: Waiting

Chapter Hundred-Twelve – Waiting

Finally, she had been summoned to the Alpha’s quarters.

Valkyrie pulled her hair and Laurel nearly screamed. The maids giggled amongst themselves.

"Sit still or it’d hurt! You are going to debate for the lives of our people. Look presentable." Valkyrie had a motherly tone.

Laurel fell back. Her hair and skin had returned to their miserable state after she returned from High Moon and continued her harsh training and sleeping on the hard bed.

She bothered to look presentable only because she hadn’t gotten to Sorren and have him agree to let her people be a pack under them.

When she spoke about it at High Moon, he had only commented on how mischievous she could be.

If she wanted to get to him, she had to check his first box on looking presentable. That one cared about looks.

When Valkyrie finished, the princess stared down at the attire. A long sleeved pleated dress that swept the ground, along with three colored shawls around her neck.

The pointed shoes Valkyrie made her wear weren’t perfectly fit either. "You can’t be serious. This is too much—"

Laurel had barely finished her words when the maids burst out laughing, some falling to the ground. Her ears redden and she grunted tiredly.

"This, this, this!" she pointed the shawls, dress and the pointed shoes. "Are going to have to go!"

"But that’s all of them...." Valkyrie lips tightened in her attempt to suppress her own laughter.

Laurel turned away from them and hurried to her room. She changed the shoes to a sandal.

She wore a flare simple red gown and released her hair. Somehow her black hair cascading down her back made her confident.

She cat walked out of the room. "And now?"

The maids’ eyes sparkled as they stared at her. "Ah, your hair is down, princess! It’s so lovely! This is much better!"

Valkyrie playfully glared at the girl that said it was much better, she sighed then shrugged. "As long as you look confident before those Lycans."

Laurel left them afterwards, fast-walking towards the Alpha’s quarters. Heads turned as she moved. She internally shuddered at the guards gawking at her.

Her steps slowed as she got to the entrance. She’d be walking into a hall of Lycans and will be interrogated under their gazes. She should be mentally ready.

She was accustomed to Sorren and Stefan but they could put on a different aura when she’d walk in. And she made a mental note to focus on Cade.

In total, Sorren and Cade were her focus, if she got them to concede then her people will be free.

"Oh! You really look like a girl now!"

Laurel’s fists clenched but she released it immediately. "If you’re here to walk me in, Sigma, please, do it quietly."

The boy clicked his tongue but stayed quiet.

Laurel smiled. Those tactics still worked on him.

He led her through different rooms that at some point, Laurel began to wonder if it was really a meeting she came for or if they were trying to murder her in secret.

"Um... who asked you to bring me?" she whispered.

"Huh?" Sigma glanced at her. "You said I should keep quiet, right? So don’t ask me." A smirk played on his lips.

Laurel rolled her eyes, her claws subtly crept out of place just in case, she kept it behind her. They passed through a dark hall way, not even a window could be found.

Laurel kept her senses alert. Elma came to the surface to aid her sense of smell. Then she felt a movement, a bright light pierced into her eyes.

She covered her face immediately but it stopped. She slowly opened her eyes and found herself in the dark hallway, Sigma’s scent was gone.

She felt her surroundings and touched a thick cloth, she opened it and the bright light came again. A curtain?

She squinted her eyes as she passed through. There she found them, all officials seated around a round table.

The atmosphere around them was thick and if she had a chicken heart, she’d think hostile and cower.

Her eyes went around the room, it was brightly lit and had chandeliers scattered on the ceiling. The walls were painted in multi colors that could cause confusion.

She recognized it, the Rainbow Chamber that her father conducted highly sensitive meetings.

She turned to the curtain, they were from Damancas and had a charm tied to it that hid everything inside the room from an outsider. Smell, sound, even light.

The multi colors around the room was said to make weak minded people falter in their decision due to confusion.

Was the decision to make her people a werewolf pack under them sound so important? She became giddy.

She crawled towards a chair, away from the table. None of them even looked up at her. She couldn’t tell what they were thinking just seated there.

Stefan had both legs on the table and his head fell back. With how long he tarried the meeting, and still tarrying it now, she wanted to smack his head.

Sorren rested his head on the table. Cade did the same.

Laurel looked at Sigma to do something. He realized. "Oh, right! You guys, she’s finally here! Took a while, huh?"

What did he mean by that? They were waiting for her? "I’ve been ready a long time ago!" She defended. Heck, she had been waiting for when Stefan would call her!

She met Stefan’s gaze on her, he smiled a bit and looked away. What did that mean? She turned to Sorren, who still looked sleepy.

"Well," Sigma rubbed his head "When I came to pick you up. Your friends were dressing your hair and fixing your cloths or something. So I left you to it."

Laurel reddened, she took a step back. He saw that? So that was why he said she finally looked like a girl?

Sorren scoffed, sitting up. "And hours later, you still came here looking that? Waste of time."

Her throat logged. She looked down, wishing the ground could swallow her. This was bullying. Definitely bullying.
