Chapter Hundred-Four – Worried
(Snow Top Mountain)
Slime stirred on the bed, before slowly rising, with both hands on his side, like a zombie.
"Scary." Asher said flatly, while eating the chips on his plate, with crossed legs.
Slime’s eyes shifted to him, then they expanded. "Your highness!" He tried to leave the bed to hug the King but his body’s weakness sent him to the ground. "Ah, thank goddess you’re safe."
"Stupid." Asher chuckled. "You didn’t even help me and I had to save you." he uncrossed his legs and got up. "Since you’re better. Leave my room."
Slime looked from the ground, checking his surrounding. He could tell from the sky outside that it was a new day from the day the rogue attacked.
He hoped days hadn’t passed. His eyes went around the room. The gold and white drapes on the window. The shimmering furniture. Swords of unique designs hung on the wall.
Did the King keep him in his room all through? Did he worry him? He sniffed. "Your highness, you’re really kind."
"Don’t call me that." Asher clicked his tongue.
Slime forced himself to roll to his back. The King sounded annoyed. Could it be due to low sleep? "You should sleep too, your highness. You need it more than I do."
Asher sighed. His body didn’t feel tired yet. "I should head to the lab now. Since you’re okay, follow me."
Slime pushed his body up. So the King had been waiting for him, after all. "Yes, sir. I’m ready when you are."
Asher dressed his bed before sighing again. "Let’s go."
Slime waited for him to leave first. His sighs bothered him.
They were laced with sadness. No one had died during the attack, right? Despite the King acting like he didn’t care, it’d bother him if his labor force reduced.
Arriving at the lab, Slime noticed it was more active than normal. The inner rooms, were the King usually did his experiments, were locked.
Which meant it wasn’t experiments making the place bubbly. Slime peeked into a room, and a pair of dark eyes looked back at him.
He shrieked, staggering back. Who were these creepy men with creepy costumes? He saw one of them pass by him with a scythe.
Slime’s blood ran cold. These men may be normal ranked Lycans but their aura proved they’ve killed many Lycans, even the powerful ranked.
"Scared?" Slime heard someone whispered in his ears. He backed away before exhaling on seeing Asher. "N-No, but they are?"
Asher looked away. "Well, they are Fangs. A Lycan Cult that has caught my interest recently." He walked as he spoke, Slime followed him. "I know who sent the rogues."
"You do?" Slime paused before catching up.
Asher made a humming sound. "Not exactly who but where they may be from. Lunaria. They’re the ones who’d be butt hurt by my amazing experiments."
Slime paused again. Lunaria? They were a dangerous kingdom. Damancas were even nicer than them. They were the ones who took the Lycan queen, Asher’s mother.
"And you plan to send Fangs after them? Well, they’re a cult group so you can use them as you like." Slime summarized.
A smile spread across Asher’s face. "Ah, Slime. You are learning fast. Yes, Fangs are group of assassins that are totally dispensable. I use and drop them as I like."
Slime felt proud of the compliment he received. His steps slowed down as he saw a golden coated coffin at the end of the hall. Did someone really die?
He hurried past Asher to the coffin. It was empty! He glanced at the King who was staring at it with no emotion.
Slime decided not to ask then.
"Your highness," It was Nene, "Lady Zara came with useless news. Do you care to hear it?"
"When it’s useless?" Asher raised a brow. "Or do you deem it useless because of your mood?"
Nene wiped her sweaty forehead. "Forgive my words. She invited you to a coffee ’date’ with Prince Sorren of Black Claws Pack."
Asher’s eyes darkened on Nene. The female lycan looked down. "It’s really useless news." Asher mumbled, walking back, down the hall he just came from.
Slime turned to him. He’s really aimless today. He inched close to Nene to ask why but she quickly walked away.
Her steps had the spring of a lioness about to jump on prey. "What’s wrong with everybody?" Slime wondered.
And the Fang cult coming into the King’s secret lab was another uncomfortable touch. Slime sighed, pacing around. "Maybe, I’d find Nero and hang out with—"
An image from the Lycan’s Packs Meeting flashed before his eyes. The first image he had seen when he walked out of the ballroom. Nero’s body on the ground.
That was what sent him to a state of frenzy and he ended up charging at the rogues instead of finding the King, only to get beaten down.
"Nero... I haven’t seen him." Slime looked around him like Nero should appear. He touched the coffin. "Could it be for him?" That meant he actually died then.
Slime’s shoulders slumped. They weren’t many people in his life so losing someone so suddenly was painful. The kind of pain he didn’t like.
Suddenly there was a wail in the next room. Slime peeked in. There was a female lycan on only a brassiere. Slime’s face turned red but he still kept his eyes on her.
"I fixed it!" she wailed again.
It confused Slime. Was she sad or happy?
She looked behind her and found the young lycan looking at her with a red face. "I fixed him." She smiled cutely.
Slime had flashbacks of the pretty girl from the kitchen who he never got to meet at the ball. Did females always looked this pretty? Or was it puberty hitting him late as the King said?
He was pushed into the room by Nene, but got caught by Asher before he fell on his face.
"Watch your step, Slime." Ashe scolded, lifting him.
Slime looked around. Why did they come to the room suddenly? Was the girl’s wail a summon to them?
"Victoria. A witch amongst the Fangs." Asher told Slime. "Apparently, she owed Nene a favor so is trying to revive him."
Revive who? Slime went forward, his eyes widened. "Nero?"
The young man’s eyes shifted to Slime, even if his head couldn’t move well. "S-Slime? Ah, I’m definitely in hell if I can see you—"
"Shut up." He got slapped by Nene but then, she hugged him simultaneously.
"Maybe heaven. My sister can’t be in hell." Nero added.
Slime chuckled, kneeling close to him. "You didn’t die!"
"I’m an assassin, of course. It takes more than that to kill me." Nero bragged.
"Hmm." Asher hummed unimpressed. "But it took a witch and your sister crying for hours to wake you up."
Nero tried getting up on seeing the King in the room. He couldn’t so he fell back. "Asher. I worried you, didn’t I?"
"You wish."
Slime turned to Asher. The King definitely got worried. He had been moving aimlessly around the room before. He seemed more relaxed now.
"I had a nice coffin made you for if you didn’t make it. I’m always ready to send you off, Nero. Remember that." Asher walked out of the room.
Nero closed his eyes. "That’s so mean and I thought I was his favorite." He rubbed his sister’s head that was still on him. "I’m okay now, Nene. Don’t worry."
Slime left his side, wearing a wide smile. At least, this part ended well for them.
