Chapter 131: Keep It to a Dull Roar
Lex was very pleased with the operations of the chair and he was highly impressed with Dr. Wooten’s bedside manner when it came to dealing with the under-aged Genmen who were delivering.
All Stephen could do was kiss his man one more time. "I’m so proud of you and I’m going to enjoy delivering my child in that very chair and I want you right in front of me talking to me the entire time. Between you and Lex, we don’t have anything to worry about when it comes to delivery of our children."
Zack walked up between them and wrapped his arms around both of them. "You can get an amen on that for me. That was the easiest I have ever seen a Genman have a child—he is 16½ and that was his first delivery and it went so easy for him. I know he will thank you forever, plus he named his kid after you; Xavier sounds like a real little smart ass, maybe even a little nerdy, but he’ll be a good kid. Because I believe his Godfather just might check up on them every now and then."
Clark smiled. "You can definitely count on that, plus I will make sure that young man has every opportunity to learn everything he needs to excel in life. Who knows, he might be our first Genman Dr. after Lex."
Clark took hold of Stephen’s hand. "Shall we go for a little stroll, my love, and show all these people just what you snagged and how lucky I am to have you by my side." Clark and Stephen bid everyone goodbye and walked out the clinic door.
Stephen gave Clark the complete tour of the place. He showed him everything and a few things that were planned for the future. When they finally returned to the cottage, Donnie had a meal waiting on them.
"Okay, lunch is on the table, but before either one of you take a bite, I need to know what did the test say and what you two been doing all morning."
Stephen started out. "First we were taking a tour, then we got a little sidetracked with a certain event that took place at the clinic, and yes, to let you know, I am pregnant still but this time he’s going to be a hybrid, and he’s gonna take after his father who, with your permission, will be bunking with us quite a bit. And I got to see the new delivery chair in action—one of the young ones went into labor early and delivered his first child, a nice beautiful boy 9 pounds 6½ ounces, and he named it Xavier. It was the easiest thing I’ve ever seen—the young man Chas did not have one single pain. In fact, he had to ask what was happening to him because he felt something strange as the baby slid out. Clark helped him up, then they got into a chair and let him rest for an hour and he went home to the dorm with his baby. He started getting in his nectar so he could feed the baby. And by the way, all three of us are going to go check on Chas and Xavier tomorrow to make sure they are doing okay and do not need anything."
"Oh yeah, and we’re going to get a new program here with a rotation schedule of doctors coming in from the city to help out at a new clinic with an OB/GYN section for Genmen. That will help Lex out with all these babies that are going to be coming from these young rescues. And wait till you meet Chas—he is so beautiful he’ll break your heart."
"Wait, Stephen, don’t forget about little Xavier with his dark wavy hair and sky-blue eyes. You talk about a heartbreaker—he’s going to break plenty of hearts. I’m going to make sure my godson has everything he needs to succeed."
"Well, I guess you two did have a great morning while I slaved away preparing this wonderful meal for you to devour. An exam that proved that he changed the baby and he assisted in a delivery utilizing his new delivery chair for Genmen here at the Z1 to a first timer that experienced no problems, no pains, no discomfort, anything. So they all had a real good Saturday and yes, tomorrow we’ll go check on this beautiful Chas and your godson Xavier. By the way, who names a child Xavier? Where in the hell did he come up with a name like that?"
Clark cleared his throat. "Well, it’s my middle name and it was my grandfather’s first name. Since I helped deliver his child and talked to him through the trouble spots, he honored me by naming him after me."
"Well, I stand corrected, and I’m going to eat crow once again. I owe you an apology, Clark—you’re not an opportunist; you seem like a very stand-up guy and you intend to do right by this child that Stephen carries for you."
"Yes, I do, and let anyone try to get in the way and they will regret it. If I’m not allowed to start the clinic out here, I’ll walk away from my career to be out here with the baby and Stephen."
"Okay, you two, eat up. I might go take a little stroll myself and relax and get away from the cooking for a while, but tonight can you two keep it down to a dull roar? I didn’t get much sleep last night—I’m a little bit grouchy."
Clark and Stephen both turned red in the face and agreed to keep it to a dull roar, at least as dull as they could be.
Donnie got a little bit more sleep that evening. Stephen only hit high notes eight times that night as Clark ravaged him.
Donnie was up cooking breakfast when the two lovebirds came lazily walking out of the bedroom. "Well, I see you didn’t wear it out last night and he can still walk. I admit a little bit better today than he did yesterday, so I guess you can stay."
"Well, thank you so much, master Donnie. I will try to do my best to add to this household and make it a home." Everyone started laughing after Clark’s comment.
As they ate breakfast, Stephen commented, "After we get through and cleaned up, can we go over and see Chas and Xavier and maybe carry Chas a little bit of a care package from Donnie’s great cooking skills?"
"Sure, take what you want. I’ve got plenty of leftovers. I imagine they’re quite a bit better than what he’s getting over there, but still, we don’t want to spoil him too much or before you know it he will want to move in with that baby in tow."
When the three arrived at the dorm, there was no doubt who had strong lungs, and he was definitely letting himself be known and heard. They walked in and looked over and saw Chas rocking the baby trying to quiet him, but that child was having none of that.
Donnie set the basket down on the floor beside Chas and squatted down. "Chas, my name is Donnie. I am Stephen and now Clark’s roommate since he moved in. How can I help you with the baby?"
"Mr. Donnie, I don’t know what’s wrong with him. I have fed him, and he has drained me dry all night long. He is not satisfied—he just screams bloody murder all night long. What am I doing wrong with this baby? Why can’t I take care of my son?"
