Chapter 143: Side Story: Morin in the Republic of Mara (Part 7)

To forget.

That was why he came.

Then, without warning, something warm pressed against his lips.

Malvis’s hand gripped Morin’s waist, another tilted his chin—and before he could even react, Malvis’s lips were on his.

Morin’s heart pounded wildly.

That alluring scent from before surrounded him, and his body grew oddly hot.

The kiss, slightly rough, sent his thoughts spiraling again.

"Ff..."

He shuddered, exhaling through his nose.

Even a kiss that brief left him trembling.

It stirred something inside him—a longing to cling to that warmth.

But even as tears streamed down his cheeks, Morin struck Malvis across the face.

"What the hell are you doing!?"

He didn’t understand Malvis.

What was that supposed to mean?

If it was just comfort, he didn’t want it.

If it was pity—he wanted it even less!

When he glared at him, Malvis looked heartbroken.

That look made Morin’s chest ache all over again.

"You looked so sad..."

"...I don’t want your pity."

"That’s not what this is—!"

"Don’t be nice to me like you know anything about me!"

With that, Morin turned around and ran.

Out of the apartment, not even knowing which direction was which.

He just ran.

As if trying to escape.

Time passed.

He didn’t know how long.

Eventually, Morin found himself crouched down in an unfamiliar part of the city.

He’d ducked into narrow alleys and side streets, making sure he wouldn’t be easily found.

But now he had no idea where he was.

There was a shield over the city that prevented him from taking dragon form.

He couldn’t even fly up to get his bearings.

Once again, he’d caused trouble.

He’d acted thoughtlessly, driven by emotion, and said something cruel.

He’d pushed Malvis away, even though Malvis had been worried about him.

It was always like this.

That’s why no one stayed by his side.

There was no point in wishing anymore.

He’d already pushed too far.

And if his parents—his father and mother—found out he caused trouble while studying abroad?

They’d be furious.

Maybe they’d even cast him out of the family.

Morin sat curled up in a dim alley, hugging himself as if to protect what little was left.

His head hung low, eyes cast down.

Then, footsteps echoed nearby.

"Huh? There’s someone here... What the hell?"

He looked up to see a young man, probably about his age—a demon.

There were more of them behind him too.

"No horns? What are you?"

"I’m a Dragon Man," Morin answered quietly.

"A Dragon Man?! What the hell is one of those doing here?"

"I was invited..."

"Is that so?"

They laughed—ugly, lewd laughter.

Fear began to claw at Morin, and he tried to stand up.

But before he could, the boys closed in.

One of them pinned him against the wall in a blink.

A hand clamped tightly around his throat, cutting off his voice.

Some kind of magic was choking him—he couldn’t make a sound.

"Hey, I heard a Dragon Man are big down there. That true?"

"!"

While grinning cruelly, one of them yanked at Morin’s trousers and pulling them down.

The cold air hit his bare skin.

The leering gazes and disgusting voices fell on him like acid.

"Holy hell, he is huge!"

"Should we just leave him out here like this? That’d be a laugh."

"How about writing ’Punish this filthy little slut’ on him?"

Laughter rang out, sharp and cruel.

Morin glared at them and tried to summon magic, but he still couldn’t speak.

Even if he could, overpowering demons with magic was a fool’s hope.

This is my punishment, he thought bitterly.

For being too naïve.

For acting without thinking.

For always making trouble, despite his childish, selfish views of the world.

He shut his eyes tightly and braced himself.

Then—suddenly—a hand grabbed one of the attackers from behind.

"!"

"Hey—!"

"Crap!"

Before Morin could even process what was happening, he was pulled backward—his body collapsing into a dark space.

But he recognized this place.

It was the same kind of pocket dimension Qi Yu had used to bring him somewhere once before.

"Morin!"

Malvis had caught him in his arms, calling his name desperately.

Within moments, he’d undone the binding spell choking Morin’s throat.

"Are you okay, Morin?!"

"..."

He’s not angry? Morin was stunned.

After everything—he’d hit Malvis, said cruel things when Malvis had only tried to help.

Malvis had been worried about him, and Morin had just run off, causing even more trouble.

Morin looked up at him—and then kissed him.

Roughly, desperately, pushing their mouths together.

He didn’t care anymore.

If Malvis didn’t hate him for the kiss, then maybe he could give him everything.

If Malvis broke him, maybe the pain and loneliness would finally disappear.

"Morin..."

"Malvis, please... sleep with me."

"I can’t do that—"

I know what you’re going to say, Morin thought.

Please don’t say it.

I don’t want to hear it.

He kissed him again, more aggressively this time.

He reached up to Malvis’s shirt, pulling it open to reveal skin.

His lower half was still exposed, completely vulnerable.

"Please, I need you... Malvis, please..."

Ruin me.

Expose me.

Hurt me enough that everything else disappears—then maybe this emptiness will go away.

I don’t care if I become a slave.

If you say you need me, then that’s enough.

But Malvis gently pushed him away and wrapped his own jacket around Morin’s shoulders.

Without a word, he transported him quietly back to a guest room in Nabe’s estate.

"Malvis..."

"Morin, please. Calm down. I... I need a moment too."

"Ah..."

Morin didn’t try to stop him from leaving.

He’d seen so many backs walk away—his busy parents, his brothers, his sisters.

He never knew how to make them stay.

"...Ugh... nn..."

The tears streamed down his face, and he couldn’t even wipe them away.

All he could do was curl up and cry, holding himself tightly.

Two days had passed since the incident.

Morin hadn’t left his room.

There was no lock on the door.
