Chapter 362: You Stalked Your Brother’s Wife?!
More cries rang in the air.
"The stalker’s getting mad! Help me!"
Before Vincent could react, Lariette’s cry for help successfully got two men and one guard rushing. Their footsteps echoed loudly on the ground and one of them shouted at him.
Lariette took the chance to step backward. The men and the guard’s presence relieved her. She initially thought only the guard would come to her rescue.
Her eyes drifted to the two men, thinking they might be residents of the apartment. She also noticed the receptionists inside the lobby were alerted by the incident.
"Scoundrel! You dare to bully a woman?!"
One man yanked Vincent by the collar, strong enough to pull him up from the ground. His friend frowned, taking a defensive stance by shielding the crying Lariette.
The guard tried to stop the first man from doing anything reckless, his voice stern, "Mister, don’t fight here. We’ll take care of this man. Miss, are you alright? Did he hurt you?"
Lariette nodded quickly once the guard turned his focus on her. She slightly covered her mouth, her voice shaky and her eyes reddened as if Vincent had terribly wronged her.
"I’m... I’m alright... He grabbed me... so I kicked him ... Will I be in trouble? I just... just trying to protect myself..."
"No, no! You did the right thing!" the first man quickly shook his head.
"Yes, miss. You did great! Tho you should aim for his crotch," the second man nodded, echoing his friend’s sentiment.
"Ahem," the guard coughed, "You acted in self-defense. He might have injured you if you didn’t do anything."
Lariette cried on the outside, but she gloated on the inside. She even successfully produced tears, letting them roll down her flushed cheeks as the men watched her, including the speechless Vincent.
Unable to watch Lariette’s performance any longer, Vincent shouted, "W-wait! I didn’t mean to harm her! She’s my sister-in-law! I’m just trying to talk to her!"
How did this happen?
He had never intended to hurt her even in the slightest!
How could she act as if he had physically assaulted her?
The first man shook Vincent by the collar, enraged, "Asshole! You stalked your own sister-in-law? Where’s your brother? Let’s drag you to him!"
"So shameless! You stalked your brother’s wife?!"
"N-no! It’s all wrong! This is a misunderstanding!"
While Vincent tried to get away from the two men’s hounding, the guard talked to Lariette. They moved a few steps away from the three men.
"Miss, we’ll call the police if you want," said the guard, his concerned voice soft as if trying to calm her, "The CCTV caught the incident."
Lariette didn’t immediately answer the guard, trying to weigh the pros and cons.
Calling the police meant she had to go to the station as the victim. She might have to spend a few hours there and return to the apartment late.
But...
"Y-yes..." Lariette nodded, trying to look even more pitiful and scared, "Please... call the police. My husband’s on a work trip... I’m afraid his brother... would do anything to me... if I didn’t tell the police..."
Hah!
Let’s take this chance to teach him a harsher lesson, shouldn’t we?
In disbelief, Vincent’s eyes widened, "...you... how could you..."
"Shut up!" the first man shouted, his saliva spattering on Vincent’s face, "Coward! We gonna let the police handle you!"
The guard quickly called the police while the men kept Vincent in check, not allowing him even a chance to escape. They even threatened him when he tried making phone calls.
Lariette watched the scene from afar, amused by the helpless look on Vincent’s face. He tried stepping forward to get to her, but the two men quickly dragged him back.
Fishing her phone out of the bag, Lariette called Chairman Delaney and Madeline, then proceeded to text Ruediger next. She didn’t want to worry any of them, but it was better to be upfront about the situation.
She wasn’t aware that one of the two men also contacted her beloved.
Soon, two police cars arrived, their appearances imposing before the apartment.
"Sir, I’m being framed," Vincent tried to sound calm as he talked to the police, "I was just trying to talk to my sister-in-law. She kicked me instead."
"We saw her grab the lady," the first man interrupted, glaring at Vincent, "Officer, take him away. Shouldn’t you question him in the station?"
"Mr. Alvord, it’s better if you follow us," the police sternly told the young man in a suit, "You can call your lawyer or anything. Don’t disrupt our work. Come with us."
Vincent tried pleading, but the police still escorted him inside one of the vehicles. Sighing, he glanced at Lariette who had been ignoring him. She entered the other police car.
As for the two men, they said they would follow by riding their own vehicle, promising to be the witnesses.
Soon, everyone arrived at the nearest police station. Neither Lariette nor Vincent expected to find themselves there this evening.
Fortunately, the place was quite empty from other civilians.
Facing the officer, he insisted that he meant no harm while she tearfully recounted the incident, also saying he had even come looking for her at work not long ago.
The two men from the apartment cooperated well by giving witness statements. Their words put Vincent more in a bind.
In the end, the exasperated Vincent gave up explaining. He waited for his family lawyer. As for Lariette, she kept ignoring him, only answering the assigned police officer.
The two men left once they were done. Lariette profusely thanked them for their help. They vehemently refused when she wanted to offer some rewards.
Right after the men left, two figures appeared at the entrance.
"Lari!"
"Lady Lariette!"
Madeline came running inside the police station, including Brian Kingsley, Chairman Delaney’s right-hand man. Their appearance shocked Vincent but relieved Lariette.
"Lari! Are you alright?"
Madeline held Lariette’s shoulder, anxiously checking her friend’s well-being. Mr. Kingsley introduced himself to the police, saying he came here to represent the young lady.
"I’m fine," Lariette smiled at Madeline, trying to reassure her, "Sorry, I called you here. You must’ve been shocked, right?"
"Wait, gimme a minute."
Under Lariette and the officer’s surprised gaze, Madeline turned around, one hand striking Vincent’s head. His painful cry blared in the police station.
