Chapter 374: Chapter 0278: An Extra Chamber Chapter 374: Chapter 0278: An Extra Chamber Chapter 0278: Another Chamber

Qi Tian couldn’t help but worry for the Heavenly Dao Engine as he saw several rune chains intertwining and becoming increasingly robust. He wondered whether the Heavenly Dao Engine could hold up.

However, Qi Tian soon realized that although the rune chains had grown stronger, the black hole steadily and relentlessly swallowed them, bit by bit. It did not retreat in the least due to the changes in the rune chains.

Qi Tian was thrilled. Despite the dangers encountered during his trip to Wanjie City, it had been well worth it. Just considering the changes in the Heavenly Dao Engine before his eyes, this journey to Wanjie City was not in vain.

Yin Shou watched as more and more rune chains were devoured. It instinctively pulled out more rune chains from the cave walls to intertwine and compete in a tug of war with the Heavenly Dao Engine.

Unexpectedly, Yin Shou’s actions coincided with the intentions of the Heavenly Dao Engine. As the rune chains plunged into the cave walls and interwove into a Rune Array around it, they resembled a tree rooting in the soil, lush and vibrant. Even in storms, the tree stood unshaken. But as its roots disappeared one by one, Yin Shou would become rootless like a floating duckweed, susceptible to even a gentle breeze.

The Heavenly Dao Engine was becoming stronger and presented the best opportunity to eliminate Yin Shou and the rune chains. Once Yin Shou reacted and drove all the rune chains into the cave walls again to form the large array, it would no longer be as easy for the Heavenly Dao Engine as it is now.

Snap! Snap! At this moment, an unforeseen circumstance occurred that Qi Tian had utterly unexpected. The rune chains, which the Heavenly Dao Engine had enjoyed swallowing up, suddenly disconnected at the black hole, just like an octopus severing its own tentacles. The rune chains divided into two, Yin Shou let the end that was broken be swallowed up by the Heavenly Dao Engine, while the remaining half of the rune chain and the supporting chains rapidly retracted.

Not only that, but Yin Shou also retracted all the rune chains that had been extended and stuck into the cave walls like a frightened rabbit. The Rune Array -the natural barrier between the upper and lower parts of the cave- vanished. Qi Tian only needed to look up to see the space above him. At the same time, Qi Tian could clearly feel that the force that had been suppressing him and preventing him from flying also disappeared.

Qi Tian did not hastily leave the cave. He turned his gaze to Yin Shou and saw that all the rune chains had vanished. Yin Shou floated silently above the altar, the protective shield around it still intact. It seemed Yin Shou believed that hiding behind the shield would keep it safe from Qi Tian.

A faint smile appeared on Qi Tian’s face. He walked up to the altar and reached out towards the shield. However, the shield was too robust. Even his pickaxe of the Innate Spirit Treasure Level needed to exert much effort to create a tiny ripple in it. Qi Tian merely trying to break it open with his hand was impossible.

As expected, Qi Tian’s hand couldn’t penetrate the protection shield, let alone cause even the slightest ripple.

Qi Tian placed his hand on the protective shield. He said to Yin Shou, “Judging by your behavior, it seems you have gained some wisdom. I’ll give you a chance: Surrender to me, serve me, I will spare your life. If you are unwilling, I will destroy you.”

Yin Shou remained motionless, and the protection shield showed no changes at all. Evidently, Yin Shou had rejected his offer. A cold smirk crossed Qi Tian’s face as he took out his pickaxe and started digging around the protective shield.

Initially, Qi Tian couldn’t leave a single mark here despite his efforts. But now, a single swing of the pickaxe could easily chip away the obstructive rocks as if slicing tofu.

Quickly, Qi Tian followed the protective shield flipped out by Yin Shou and dug up the shield along with Yin Shou. Some runes remained on the altar beneath Yin Shou, but with a single strike from the Innate Spiritual Treasure, they all vanished, failing to function.

It was unclear whether Yin Shou lacked the ability to fly, or it was just too terrified of the Heavenly Dao Engine, as it allowed Qi Tian to dig down without making any extra movements.

After he had dug up the protective shield, Qi Tian waved his hand and stored the shield and Yin Shou inside in a storage ring. He didn’t have time to figure out what Yin Shou was, but it was evident that it was something valuable. If he came across it, there was no reason to let it go.

Qi Tian used the Heavenly Dao Engine to sense the area, finding that nothing valuable remained in the cave. Even the runes that had been on the cave walls had disappeared; they might have been part of the rune chains. When Yin Shou retracted the chains, they also vanished.

Qi Tian took out a flying sword, stood on it, and flew towards the top of the cave. Free from the flying restrictions, Qi Tian quickly flew out of the more than one-hundred-meter-deep cave, returning back to the mountain tunnel.

Once again, Qi Tian used the Heavenly Dao Engine to sense the surroundings. He found that the energy which had interested the Heavenly Dao Engine a few days ago was still there, its location and strength unchanged. Also, the runes that had lined the walls of the tunnel had disappeared. Qi Tian didn’t need his pickaxe; he could just scrape a handful of rocks off the wall with his hand.
