Chapter 159: Merman and Fairies
Chapter 159: Merman and Fairies
Adam followed the group deeper and deeper into one of the tighter tunnels, which grew narrower and more suffocating the further they went.
The humans kept screaming, but what could any of them really do in this situation?
They barely had any strength left to move anyway. Their rising voices amounted to nothing more than a last-ditch effort to survive.
As they descended into the steep, narrow throat of the cavern, the group eventually stopped at a pool of water, a small pond glowing faintly in the darkness of the cramped space.
Despite being forbidden from using magic during this training mission, Adam found himself standing before a body of water that clearly reeked of Water Astrum.
When he peered into it, he saw what lay on the other side, a massive castle filled with even more monsters. It was obvious now: this was a portal.
And that realization made him think even deeper.
"Why the hell is there a portal here?"
The question lingered in his mind, but for now, it remained unanswered.
His attention then shifted.
"Well... the only way to find out is to see what is on the other side."
One by one, the mermen dove into the glowing pond, each dragging a human behind them. Adam stepped forward, blending in with the group. When his turn came, he dove in as well.
As the portal’s light swallowed him whole, his vision blurred, yet the momentum of his dive didn’t stop.
SPLASH!
His head broke through the surface of a new body of water. He was no longer in the cavern. He had fallen straight from the glowing pond above, and now found himself drifting in a vast, open sea.
Water stretched endlessly in every direction, no land, no sky, just the deep, crushing blue. He looked up. The down, the portal was gone. Nothing but more ocean below an no image of the pound.
This would’ve worried anyone else.
But not Adam.
He had Memory Point, this new power that let him teleport anywhere, anytime, untouched by the laws of space, time, or distance.
So he swam forward, following the others. As the group moved together through the water, a shape slowly came into view above the clouds.
A castle, floating high in the sky, anchored to a colossal chunk of rock, that rock itself had a series of multiplefolded magic circles around it. From Adam point of view, this castle was sucking all the Astrum particles in the atmosphere to keep it powered.
Descending from it were strange creatures: fairy-like monsters, delicate and beautiful, nearly nude, their bodies veiled only by strands of glowing miasma clouds in the right spot.
They weren’t much bigger than dolls, but they radiated power that was on the same level of an High B-Rank monster kind bordering on A-Rank.
On their backs shimmered halo-like rings, either natural organs or strange machines, that let them fly with ease.
Each fairy rode atop a monstrous eagle.
These weren’t ordinary birds.
Their feathers were black, thin, and razor-sharp, moving like blades in the wind. Their beaks were blood-red, and their eyes, eight of them, all glowed with a cold glare.
An exoskeleton wrapped around their bodies like armor, crackling with electricity that was red in color.
Yet the fairies sat comfortably atop them, unaffected by the storm of energy.
"Man, I’m seeing so many new monsters I didn’t even know existed until today. System, by any chance, do you know what these things are called?"
The system took a moment to respond. After about twenty seconds, it finally answered.
『The Archives indicate they are a nameless race』
"Hmm... nameless? How is that even possible?"
Adam asked, puzzle by the system prior response.
『As the Monster World expands, and monsters procreate with one another, new races are constantly being born. I can’t find any records of these particular species in my database. That means they’re all nameless, as such labeled as undiscovered monsters』
"So stuff like this happen as well eh?! Make sense I guess, either way, let’s just watch and see what happens next."
Without saying anything else Adam watches as events plays on.
The merman would swim close to the fairies, and like mere offerings, the humans where presented like gifts to them.
As the merman lifted them up, the fairies would sweep down on their mounts commanding them to grab them with their talions and take them off into the sky.
Once captured they will fly off into the distance, heading directly to the castle.
"Shit I need to hitch a ride with Santhene here...but first."
A burning sensation courses through the body of the merman Adam occupied, as he uses Dominator from within it’s body.
The mind, body, and soul of the aquatic monster falter till Adam took full control of it.
The monster had become his new summon, and he also got two more lore abilities.
Fast swimmer, a lore ability that allows this monster to swim twice as fast, at any given time making it go past it’s natural limit’s.
And a unique one called Sea Glutton, this monsters can transform into any aquatic animal he has eaten over the prolong period of time during meals.
"These are some good abilities, if your in a sea theme environment like I am currently in. Then these abilities is basically cheat like."
Right after Adam dominated the body of the Merman, he came out of the monster’s body exiting from through its eyes, ears, mouth, and pores.
As he slithers across Santhene body, entering the same way she did the captured merman.
He soon have it’s first orders.
"Alright big guy, offer me up to the bird."
With unwavering obedience, his new thrall lifted Santhene’s limp body high into the water. The moment her form was raised, one of the monstrous birds took notice.
It swooped down, its massive talons wrapping around her shoulders, and without hesitation, it flew off with her, ascending toward the distant castle above.
"Now lets get a better view."
Adam activated his fourth wall, reality became third person, as he began to see the world in a more expansive view.
At this very moment they where high in the sky, and castle became clear to see.
It looks like your typical medieval castle.
It floated in the sky, from a distance, it looked normal enough, stone walls, sharp towers, jagged spires, but the closer you looked, the more off it felt.
The stone was not clean or smooth. It was rough, uneven, dark like dried blood, and covered in moss that twitched with the wind as it move slightly.
Glowing blue vines hung off the sides, clothing most of it downwards giving it an otherworldly appearance.
Surrounding it were hundreds of those same fairy-like monsters, swarming the air like hornets around a nest.
From afar, they all clumped together into a massive sphere of flickering purple light. The deeper into the glow you looked, the more movement you saw.
As Adam plunged deeper into enemy territory, he soon realized that what he had first taken for a castle was actually more like a nest for these things.
"This is going to be a pain in the ass. All of these little fairies are high B-Rank, and the strongest one I’ve sensed so far is low A-Rank... Statistically speaking, these things are way more dangerous than your average vampire."
Before Adam could theorize further, his vision tilted downward as the eagle mount veered toward a massive opening at the center of the courtyard.
From above, blood caked the jagged stone rim, and a grotesque mountain of innards and corpses sprawled out below, staining everything red, drowning the air in the thick, metallic stench of meat left too long in the sun.
Without ceremony, the eagle dropped Santhene’s limp body straight into the pit like trash.
She plummeted headfirst.
Adam didn’t land on the edge or tumble down the side. No, he fell straight into the heart of it.
The moment he hit the mound of gore, the raw, suffocating stench slammed into him like a freight train.
It was’t just foul...oh hell now, it was maddening. The sheer potency overloaded his senses, throwing everything into a nauseating spiral.
"What the hell is this putrid pit...aaaghhhuu!!"
The smell was obscene.
Rot, feces, bile, and raw meat mushed together in a damp tomb.
And the deeper he fell, the worse it got.
The scent was no longer just putrid, it was extremely vile, choking, almost supernatural in its intensity.
Darkness swallowed everything, and somewhere in the black, bones cracked in a horrific manner, some his host, other’s someone else.
Santhene’s body slammed into the bottom with a sickening splatter.
There was no mistaking it. She had been reduced to a blood-soaked mess on impact.
Adam, still nestled inside her ruined body in slime form, jolted as the corpse convulsed. Then, from the gory tear in her shredded abdomen, he oozed out, slowly slithering free of the broken vessel.
Once clear, he began to reform, muscle, bone, and sinew twisting back into his human shape.
His night vision kicked in, courtesy of the werewolf gene still coursing through him.
The dark bled away, revealing the grim reality. Santhene’s crushed body was now just one of many. He had landed atop a mountain of corpses, human corpses, all dumped and piled high within the massive pit.
Despite the huge hole above, the air down here was bitterly cold. Anyone with a half of brain, could see that his wasn’t just a disposal site. It was storage area, enough food to last for years.
And whatever was keeping this pit cold... it wasn’t natural. Adam could not sense any magic at the very least so Astrum was not at play here.
"Wow, this place is really massive, still it smells so bad here, either way beside up, is there anyway in the castle from here, I feel like I am very close to the leader."
But as Adam said that, his system began to speak brining good news.
『Master, I sense two DLC Items, one buried in this corpse pile, the other hidden somewhere within the castle』
