Chapter 158: A Weird Island

The stench hit first, a bird with many different carving in it’s flesh, entered a cave for the hundredth time this week.

Light around it bent away, preventing anyone to see it. As such to the eye, it was an invisible thing of existence.

And yet, all five senses were ever present into its being, as through this bird Adam experience the horrific stench of the world around him.

He smelled rotten sweat.

Age blood.

And iron dust caked in the folds of malnourished flesh. A dozen flavors of rot, all fused under the choking ceiling of the cave.

Beneath the wide Ridge, an open wound carved into the earth of the Monster World, lay a massive diggeryard. A subterranean network of tunnels so deep, they burrowed into the very arteries of the earth.

Some where miles deep, other where but a couple hundred meters down and led to a dead end.

Chains rattled loudly as human men and women, stripped to bone and bruises, shuffled along in lines, pickaxes dragging behind them.

Every fifth step, one would stumble.

Every tenth, one would collapse.

No one stopped to help the fallen, as they did not want to get punished by their captures.

Because behind these humans where the jailers, a series of large and scary monsters.

They were grotesque looking, just the few in this cave alone look like giant fish men of sorts. Not only do they have a muscular body, they where tall, the shortest one their being over seven feet tall.

Their green skin was slimy, and produce a strong and musky smell of a fish.

They had a pair of gills, and sharp eel like tail.

They have two pair of glowing yellow eyes, with blue colored scelera.

And despite how strong these things are, they have a bunch of human slaves mining these caves for them.

But what confused Adam was the impossibility of it all, something was clear wrong here, and it was quite obvious as to what that was.

Far from there area, in-between two rocks, Adam sat with his eyes closed as he was seeing through they eyes of his creation.

"What the hell is this supposed to be? Or rather how the fuck are human’s even here to begin with. The miasma of the Monster world should have kill them and turned them into Hollows right about now, this place is too toxic for humans to roam about without consequence. And not just human’s either, but that is beside the point."

Adam said to himself.

He was loss as to why these human have not mutated yet.

And even bigger question, why the hell are they even here, and why are they mining that tunnel.

It has been over a week since Minerva left Adam alone in this place, most likely watching things play out from a safe distance.

During that time, Adam survey the entire island, they where a total of twenty eight different island. Weird enough they where all connected via a complex series of tunnels.

The path down there, range into the thousands, so it was easy to get lost once down there.

The monsters here, where weird as well, this was clearly a aquatic terrain, mostly fish type monsters would be here.

And yet, among the obvious and most likely types that station around these part.

Monsters that look like they don’t belong here. One for example was the many yeti like Monster Adam was currently looking at.

They seem to be slave of sorts as well, they where muscular bunch, all of them being bulky in build. They all have white fur, a thick coat that cover them to point you can’t even see their faces behind the thick coats they naturally wore.

And in a similar fashion to gorillas, they walk with their knuckles on the ground.

They had a large metal saddle around there chest, thick chains connect to carts behind them. As the humans mine away the large build up rubble is dragged away to the sea outside to make room.

Just as they where thousands of human miners, they where hundred of these yetis around the island.

As the humans continue to mine, their search constant.

Adam still very far from the prying eyes of the enemies, soon began to move.

The bird hidden behind curve light randomly teleported out of nowhere as it flapped before Adam, who got up and cracked his neck.

"I have seen enough, it clear they are looking for something on this island, but the question is what? Still their has to be leader here, but I just can’t seem to find that leader. Either I am not looking hard enough, or they clearly not here, I like to bet on the latter in this case."

"Thankfully, my stay here is not in vain, I had time to practice and train this body some more. I thought myself how to absorbed things into my being, sadly not organic matter, but inorganic ones, hehehe... That easy."

Adam said as he touched the rock he once sat one, and the moment he touched it. The rocks form started to sizzle as if something was burning it.

Adam could not explain it, how does one eat a rock, is that even possible?

Maybe, maybe not, there was clearly no right answer here, just a matter of perspective here.

And then similar to how slimes eat rocks, and other stuff according to the books he had read.

He follow the way they eat, teaching his body an impossible new way of life.

And then as if imitating a slime existence, his body that learned to live like one, burst into a sea of blood, and mush meat.

His form was slime like, and it engulfed itself around this rock, that floated inside his slime like body.

The rocks began to dissolve inside him, breaking down into it most simple form.

Before it, the cluster if mineral’s was nothing more than matter. All things in creation, the phsycial structure of existence, was compose of nothing but matter.

As such, his form began to transform this time, into the very rock he had eaten. He look exactly like it, all the components within the rock he could not imitate with his own body.

"Non-organic stuff are easy, but organic stuff is vastly more complex, I still need more practice with it, but this isn’t the only new thing I learned how to do."

Adam said as his rock form teleported into the same spot via use of Memory point. Now he was in a den of monsters and humans.

And yet, none notice his arrival.

And at this very moment, one of the fishermen or as he refers them as merman monster pass him.

His body quicker than he could react, wrapped around the leg of the merman taking it by suprise. It tried to scream, and fight back pulling his liquid form away, however easy said than done.

But before his screams echoed in the cave, Adams nimble slime like form entered it’s mouth choking it from the inside.

Then through its eyes and ears, nose and pores. Any orfice available for entry, Adam sink into them as he enter this monster body through each entry point, and in less than three seconds, he was completely inside the body of the Merman.

Like a parasite he took control of the merman from the inside out. The monster still very much awake and conscious in mind. As it was forced to watch as itself lose th ability to move.

And now to the eyes of those here, Adam was no different than them, a fellow merman, as he began to move around.

This time he plans to head deeper. Following the group of monsters, that began to take some humans deeper into the cave.

He saw this action played out before, but never followed the group to where they usually go. His instinct scream at him that if he followed them, he could get caught.

Either way, now that he occupied this body as his own. He would follow them down the same path.

"NO...PLEASE, DON’T TAKE ME! SOMEBODY HELP, PLEASE, I DON’T WANNA DIE!"

One man cried out, he was dress in rather expensive looking clothes, they were however dirty and torn from all the work, they where force to do here.

Other humans cry for help as they were drag along. And Adam, trying to blend in tried to take a human as well to follow the group.

His eyes fall on unconscious woman, she had dark skin, and green eyes, her hair was white, and said an eye patch on her eye.

She was dress in what Adam could assume was a pirate outfit.

Currently, she seems to have fall uncocunious due to overworked, seeing this as good opportunity, he grabbed the girl, and line up with the other merman.

"Aughh... Wh-attt?!...

The girls eyes open up, a sudden realization hit her, as she look around and saw one of those ugly monstrosities had picked her up.

Her eyes looked around as she realize what was about to befall her.

"Nooooo... Please don’t, I am sorry I will work harder, I will work harder."

Her voice was weak, but her desperation was clear. Reading her desires, and emotion’s, Adam could see why her desire to live was so strong.

As the memories she had, all soaked within Adam.

"My name is Santhene Borlosh, eldest daughter of the Borlosh family. We were once a count family of top-selling merchants, but due to my fathers greed, who made a deal with a demon for further riches, our family’s position was taken away when the church found out."

"On the run, I ended up joining a group of pirates, the Grey Ravens. Every day was good after that. We would steal any goods that traveled overseas and sell them to the market for double, sometimes triple the price if the product was on high demands."

"Till one day... that’s when they came. Our ship was invaded by monsters. They came from the sea, hundreds of them. We tried to fight back, but it was no use."

"Yet again, I found myself in a miserable situation. They forced us into chains and shoved something down our throats. Even now, I feel like it wiggling around inside me."

"I don’t know what they are, but the air here is putrid and horrific. At first, many choked to death, but this thing inside us kept us alive. Before I knew it, I was breathing through the thing in my stomach."

"All sense of hunger faded. The urge to use the bathroom and relieve oneself suddenly gone. The concept of sleep disappeared as well."

"We became suddenly self-sufficient because of the thing inside of us. And yet, it did nothing to stop the physical exhaustion of the muscles."

"We are forced to work non-stop regardless of the pain, even if we can’t die from hunger or thirst phsycially I feel like I am dying, and mentally I am exhausted as well."

"Someone help me, someone help me, I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die, I-I-I... Nonono this thing picked me up, it is going to feed me to their queen."

The images faded, and Adam looked around, the merman picked up more humans, regardless of children or elderly.

If they stop worked it means they have reach the limits of their usefulness.

"... Interesting so they where kidnapped, and I guess it’s because of this worm like things these humans are resisting the effects of the Miasma."

Adam said from within the Merman, and eye manifesting inside the monster.

Using it Adam peered through the monster body, and like an X-ray machine, through the eye, he saw the worm creature crawling around in Santhene stomach walls, basically fuse to it, like new organ in the body.

Further analysis shows that if remove these people will die, as it replace everything in the body.

The heart could stop, and the body will remain alive, brain damage could occur yet, this thing acted as a second brain as well.

The only way death would come to these people would be if this thing inside them dies.

"What a horrible fate, it’s already too late for this woman."

Adam said, so as an act of mercy, he casted a blessing or in this case a cursed.

He gave this blessing to the parasite inside her. A passive blessing that quickly burns up the lifeforce within a living being.

And the moment he gave the worm inside it screech in pain, as it perish. The woman also scream but before the escape Adam covered her mouth, as her body contorted in his hand.

"Shhh... It will all be over soon."

And so said, so done

Santhene died, as her soul exist her body, but before it escape to the other world of her religion.

Adam grabbed the soul, and place it inside the invisible bird that now floated beside him.

Acting as a soul container.

"I will make you a new body later, for now just rest in there, I could use some human servants, even if you won’t be human anymore."

The girl now dead stop moving as Adam hoist her over his shoulder as he followed the group more deeper into the cave.
