Chapter 140: The Trap

Jim opened the door while Thomas stood guard nearby. The masked man walked up to the entrance with his broom in hand.

"Are you?... ehm..." Jim wasn't sure how to ask it. They didn't know the real identity of this person—just their alias and that he was from a very wealthy magical family.

These illegal bounties were managed by a large criminal group, so anonymity was a crucial part of it.

"Do you have the boy?" the masked man responded with annoyance. He was still being kept at the door.

"Y-yes, right here." Jim moved away and allowed the man to enter.

James was still laying on the floor, right where they left him. One could see him after taking a few steps away from the door.

The masked man said nothing to them and just gave James an intense look.

"Yes... this is the bastard I was looking for." There was a lot of contained rage in his voice. "I find it hard to believe that you got him alive."

"Oh yeah, it was very e—" Jim was hit on the shoulder by his partner, along with a glare that warned him to be more careful with what he said.

"Mmm?" The masked man turned to them.

Thomas spoke next. "It was a difficult hunt, sir. But we managed to capture the target. According to the bounty, there was an extra for t—"

"Of course." The large man brushed him off. "I have your money right here. And there is an extra for capturing him alive." He produced a bag from his robes and expanded it before laying it on the ground.

The two bounty hunters wasted no time to grab it and check its contents.

Neither of them could control their excitement when they saw the large amount of gold coins stored in the bag.

The masked man ignored this. Money was of no significance to him. His only interest was bringing James back to his house.

"I'm going to make you regret what you did..." From the moment he received the message that James Potter had been captured alive, he had been thinking about all the ways in which he was going to make him suffer.

He brought his large hand closer to James and was about to grab him by the neck.

Suddenly, he saw James's right hand move, followed by a silver shine.

The next instant, he felt an intense pain in his shoulder and spotted a sharp blade embedded in his flesh.

"Ahhhh!" The man let out a bloodcurdling scream that alerted the two hit wizards nearby.

Jim and Thomas had been happily counting the money just a moment ago, and then, all of a sudden, they heard their client screaming.

"What the fuck?!" Thomas saw a sharp object poking from their client's back.

Jim took his wand out and was about to rush towards James to stun him again.

"Glacium Spica."

Out of nowhere, sharp shards of ice were shot towards him. Being caught completely by surprise, Jim didn't even have time to process what was happening before several of those spikes pierced his chest and pushed him backwards with tremendous force.

Thomas only had time to spot the place from where the spell had come.

"Stupefy!" A red spark appeared from his wand and flew towards the ceiling of the house.

It hit nothing but empty air.

"You dared attack my Master..."

Thomas heard a female voice coming from behind him. He was about to turn around when she spoke again.

"Divulsa."

A blade formed from an eerie purple light moved in an arc and passed by him at the height of his neck, severing his head from his shoulders with no effort.

Thomas died before he could even understand what had happened.

Jim was laying on the ground, bleeding and heavily injured but still alive.

He saw what had happened to his friend. A small fairy had appeared behind him and chopped his head off with no mercy.

He also saw his client being thrown on his back by the boy they brought here.

James Potter should have been stunned and restricted by magical bindings, but somehow... he was still moving and had some sort of blade in his hand.

What Jim could not see was that beneath his clothes, all over James's body, there were silver metallic lines created by Tertivor. Using this, the metallic slime was capable of moving James's body and fighting, even if James himself was unconscious.

While the masked man continued to scream and grab onto his injured shoulder, the unfortunate hit wizard was struggling to stay conscious with two large ice spikes piercing his chest.

"W-wait!... I'm just... I—m j—"

"Silence!" Jim's begs were interrupted by Nyxaris. She extended her tiny hands towards him.

"N-no, pl—"

"Glacius." Nyx called his sentence.

Jim's body became covered in a thick cold mist that completely froze it in a matter of seconds.

After making sure that both of them were dead, she turned her attention to her Master and promptly dispelled the magic they had placed on him. "Finite."

James's eyes opened again. He took a moment to assess the situation.

A large bleeding man was laying in front of him. The mask alone was enough for him to know that this was the person he had been looking for.

A bit further away, there was one man missing his head and another one who had been frozen.

Nyxaris hovered next to him. "Master. We did as you told us."

"Tertivor." James spoke. The slime retrieved its metallic tendrils and returned to its normal form as a bracelet on his wrist. This allowed him to recover his ability to move.

The masked man had stopped screaming and was now staring at James with a terrified look on his face.

"You must be the one who put a bounty on me." James's tone was ice cold. He had no mercy to offer this person. Tonight, many more were going to die.

A wand appeared in his hand. "Let's see who this is..."
