Chapter 757: Chapter 757

After listening to Wang Daqiang, Yang Fan took another look at the women in the alley, and his eyes suddenly filled with admiration.

They really are hardcore!

Truly using their lives to earn a living.

Although with their workload, the monthly earnings must be very considerable,

the toll on their bodies is certainly not to be underestimated.

Their monthly activity volume is roughly equivalent to what some women would experience over a lifetime. That figure is terrifying.

This level of dedication is truly incredible.

No matter how deep a labyrinth may be, there’s always an end to it. Yang Fan and Wang Daqiang admired the sights along the way as they walked, and when they looked up again, they had already emerged onto the main road.

"Fanzi, look at that person, doesn’t she look really strange?" Wang Daqiang suddenly whispered to Yang Fan.

Yang Fan followed Wang Daqiang’s gaze and his pupils shrank sharply.

About seven or eight steps away from them, there was a woman selling fried skewers.

The stall was a common pushcart seen on the streets, and the ingredients on it were also very ordinary.

But in front of her stall, there was a long queue of people.

The real catch was that the woman was bald, her head was at least twice the size of a normal person’s, with depressions and bulges all over it, covered in various large and small, irregular lumps.

Her entire head looked like a mutated tumor.

She stood there, smiling warmly, chatting and laughing with the customer in front of her.

The customer, who appeared to be an ordinary office worker, seemed completely accustomed to the woman’s bizarre appearance—he even seemed to find her beautiful.

Yang Fan was astonished to see admiration in the man’s eyes—an admiration filled with longing, the kind of longing that yearned to claim her.

"Fanzi, this smells so good, and... this woman has a certain charm," Wang Daqiang mumbled dazedly, staring at the woman in infatuation.

"Huh?" Yang Fan turned his head suspiciously toward him.

What perspective was he coming from to say that?

The woman likely had some kind of illness that caused her appearance to change like this. Yang Fan didn’t want to look at her with a prejudiced eye, but her appearance hardly had anything to do with charm.

Her fried skewers, on the other hand, did smell amazing.

Just the aroma wafting in the air was enough to make Yang Fan’s mouth water and his stomach rumble with hunger.

No wonder her stall had such a long line—it seemed her skills were truly excellent.

However, as he kept watching, Yang Fan suddenly noticed that something was off.

The people in line, regardless of gender, all looked at the woman with a gaze as though staring at their dream goddess, eyes full of burning passion and infatuation.

But those standing outside the line looked at the woman with an entirely different expression.

Their eyes were filled with confusion, disgust, and contempt.

It was as if the people inside and outside the queue existed in two completely different worlds, centered around the stall.

"Fanzi, let’s get some fried skewers. They really look delicious," Wang Daqiang said dreamily, gazing at the woman in fascination as he swallowed hard.

Yang Fan instinctively nodded, "Yeah, they do look delicious. Let’s buy some. A beautiful woman like her working hard at the stall probably isn’t easy."

"Then let’s go line up." Wang Daqiang said, stepping forward mechanically.

"Yeah, let’s go."

Yang Fan instinctively followed him.

At this moment, something in his pocket suddenly stirred, emitting an icy chill that pierced through to the bone.

Yang Fan snapped awake, a sudden chill spreading down his spine—something wasn’t right.

He quickly grabbed Wang Daqiang and pulled him back several steps in a hurry.

Only after retreating a dozen steps did the dizzying allure of the fried skewer aroma gradually fade. He patted the embroidered shoes in his pocket and murmured with lingering fear, "Thank you."

If it hadn’t been for the timely icy sensation from the embroidered shoes, he would’ve already become one of the people in line.

The embroidered shoes remained quiet, as if they were just an emotionless pair of shoes once again.

"Fanzi, let’s... line up, alright?" Wang Daqiang’s eyes were still dazed, his irises glowing faintly pink, as if someone had sprinkled luminous pink powder into them.

Yang Fan pulled out the ruler and smacked Wang Daqiang hard on the back of his head.

"Hiss...!"

Wang Daqiang clutched his head and cried out in pain, his eyes instantly clearing up.

"Fanzi, what are you hitting me for?" he said, rubbing the back of his head in pain.

Yang Fan scrutinized Wang Daqiang. "Do you think the fried skewers out there smell fragrant?"

"What? What skewers?" Wang Daqiang asked, confused, sniffing deeply. "Is it this smell? It does seem pretty fragrant, but it’s just regular fried skewers, right?"

"You just thought the skewers smelled like the most delicious thing in the Human World, insisted we line up, and even said the stall owner was your goddess who deserved your support," Yang Fan teased casually, though there was a serious undertone in his voice.

"Me? Just now?" Wang Daqiang looked puzzled.

"I don’t remember doing any of that."

He genuinely looked baffled.

Whatever had just happened, clearly none of it had left an impression on him.

"Don’t rush into overanalyzing it for now; I couldn’t explain it even if I tried. We’ve encountered something strange," Yang Fan said grimly. He hadn’t yet figured out what that woman was, so he couldn’t offer a clear explanation.

"Take another route and try to make a wide detour. Avoid this street right ahead. I’ll take a closer look at what exactly this is. Stirring up trouble selling fried skewers on the street—seems a bit audacious."

As soon as he heard this, Wang Daqiang’s expression turned serious. He picked up the butcher’s knife in his hand and said, "Fanzi, let me help you. I’m good in a fight. Doesn’t matter what she is; one slash and it’s settled."

"This has nothing to do with fighting." Yang Fan shook his head. "It’s not something you can solve by fighting. Even if you tried to slash her, you wouldn’t kill her. Just go back for now."

If this could be resolved through simple force, it would’ve been an easy matter.

Wang Daqiang thought carefully about Yang Fan’s words and said seriously, "Fanzi, is this place safe?"

"For now, it seems to be safe," Yang Fan replied.

"Then I’ll wait for you here. If you need help, just call for me," Wang Daqiang said firmly. "I’m a man after all; how could I leave you behind and run off? Don’t worry, I won’t hold you back. If things get out of hand, I’ll run immediately."

"Why are you so stubborn? Fine, suit yourself. Just walk further back and whatever you do, don’t step forward randomly." Yang Fan cautioned him seriously, activating the Heavenly Eye Technique. With the wooden mace in his left hand and the ruler in his right, he carefully began to step forward.
