Chapter 745: Chapter 745

Yang Fan finally found the right method.

By channeling Inner Qi onto the tool, he could saw through the locust wood.

But even at this stage, things still weren’t running smoothly.

Yang Fan had always controlled his Inner Qi with grand, sweeping motions, almost always exploding with full force. He had never done such delicate, meticulous work before. If he wasn’t careful, the saw blade would snap.

Previously, Fan Sisi and Yun Miaoyi went out and bought five saws, but Yang Fan only managed to cut through two pieces of wood before all of them were ruined.

They went out again, and this time came back with ten saws while replenishing some other tools.

The task seemed small, but it was incredibly hard on the tools.

"Fanzi, what exactly is this ’strength’ you’re talking about? Give us a little hint, will you?" Fan Sisi squatted beside Yang Fan and asked curiously, "You help us understand this, and we’ll show you something good."

Yang Fan got distracted for a moment, and the saw blade snapped with a click.

"I can explain, but not right now. Don’t interrupt me—I lose focus, and another saw’s done for," Yang Fan said helplessly.

Controlling Inner Qi with precision was far tougher than unleashing it in full force.

Fan Sisi instantly shut her mouth and nodded repeatedly.

After thinking for a moment, she said, "You carry on. We promise not to bother you anymore."

"Alright, I’ll continue," Yang Fan replied as he steadied his breathing, focused his mind, and cautiously channeled his Inner Qi again.

The process was like peeling silk from a cocoon—there was simply no room for brute force.

After ruining five or six saw blades, he gradually started to get a feel for the technique.

Inner Qi needs to be applied to the saw in a way that matches the saw’s tolerance level, adjusting the intensity of the Qi accordingly.

If the Qi was too strong, the blade would snap; if too weak, it couldn’t saw through.

Yang Fan slowed down his pace further, sinking into his focus and carefully sensing the relationship between the Inner Qi, the saw, and the locust wood, searching for the optimal balance point between the three.

His movements resembled a sloth sawing wood—slowly... slowly, pulling the saw one tiny bit at a time.

At this moment, Yang Fan finally understood Mr. Fan’s intention.

It was to train him in fine control over his Inner Qi through this method.

And yet, Mr. Fan hadn’t stated this outright.

It would have been the same if he’d just said it directly, but he deliberately left it obscure, making Yang Fan figure out the answer on his own.

After breaking two more saw blades, Yang Fan finally gained some insights into this subtle balance between the three elements.

His speed gradually picked up.

This time, the saw blade lasted far longer, all the way until Yang Fan was nearly through the entire cut, when it suddenly snapped.

This time, it was because Yang Fan got too excited.

Seeing that the task was almost complete, his heart surged with joy, which caused his Inner Qi to fluctuate and the blade to snap.

"No, I can see I’ll need to work on controlling my emotions as well."

Yang Fan murmured to himself, adjusted his breathing, and started again.

He needed to separate his emotional fluctuations from the flow of Inner Qi to prevent them from affecting each other.

But this was far more difficult than controlling the relationship among the Inner Qi, the saw blade, and the locust wood.

His Inner Qi was controlled by his mind, while emotional changes directly influenced his mind. The two were practically intertwined, making separation extremely challenging.

Yang Fan did his best to calm his emotions, deliberately ignoring the changes in Inner Qi, letting his mind guide from above while his Qi operated below, maintaining the necessary pace.

But even such a minor adjustment caused the saw blade to snap again.

As his mind stirred, his Inner Qi moved along with it.

Looking at the broken blade once more, Yang Fan suddenly felt a bit agitated.

This task was an extreme test of patience.

He relaxed his focus, took a few deep breaths, and didn’t rush to start again but instead calmed himself and shifted his attention inward.

Starting in this unsettled state would only lead to poor results.

It was better to adjust himself and restart.

Fan Sisi and Yun Miaoyi were sitting behind Yang Fan. Seeing his expression, the two quietly peeked at him from either side, exchanged a glance, and whispered among themselves.

"He’s getting angry."

"I think so too. Don’t say anything; you might get hit."

"Mm!"

They silently exchanged looks and then lowered their heads to play on their phones.

At this moment, the two were as obedient as model students.

Yang Fan calmed down for a moment and felt the agitation within him subside. Only then did he start again.

This time, he didn’t rush to separate his mind and Inner Qi.

He realized that this step was crucial and extremely difficult, and if he couldn’t smoothly control the subtle relationship among Inner Qi, the saw, and the locust wood, he shouldn’t attempt it lightly.

Scratch... scratch...

Yang Fan finally cut the last piece of wood into eighty-centimeter sections.

The next step was carving the rough base.

This required the use of an axe.

Yang Fan held a section of wood in his left hand and lifted the axe with his right.

BANG!

The intensity of Inner Qi he used with the saw only left a shallow mark on the locust wood with the axe—it didn’t split it open. The change in tools meant the strength of Inner Qi had to adjust as well.

Yang Fan increased the intensity of the Qi and swung the axe again.

After four or five adjustments, the axe finally split the wood.

However, this resulted in several chips on the axe, rendering it unusable.

This progress was faster compared to before, though.

Replacing the axe with another one, Yang Fan focused on splitting the wood.

Using the axe was relatively easier than using the saw. The axe required more Inner Qi, which made it less precise but also simpler to control. With the foundation laid from before, this task naturally flowed more smoothly.

Yang Fan powered through and completed rough carving on all seven wooden pieces.

This time, he ruined only two axes in total.

One of the woods had knots, forcing Yang Fan to readjust his Inner Qi intensity, which cost him one axe.

In comparison, this round was much easier.

With a clang, Yang Fan tossed the axe on the ground, stood up, and stretched his muscles, saying, "This nearly killed me."

The task seemed simple on the surface, but it was far harder to accomplish.

"Fanzi, finished?" Fan Sisi asked quietly.

Yang Fan nodded, sat on the ground, and leisurely lit a cigarette. "The preliminary work is mostly done. Next is the fine carving—that’s when things get truly difficult."

Thinking about the next steps, his head started to ache.

This was going to be far harder than cutting or rough carving.

The control over Inner Qi would have to become even more refined.

"No problem. There’s no rush—we can take our time. Anyway, my grandpa didn’t set a deadline," Fan Sisi assured him.

While she couldn’t truly understand his struggle, she could still see how challenging the task was.

"True, there’s no rush, but I can’t afford to slack off too much either," Yang Fan replied.

He disliked leaving today’s task for tomorrow.

After resting for a bit, he aimed to capture his fleeting insights and get back to work.
