Chapter 741
Chapter 741: Chapter 741
Yang Fan now could basically confirm it.
Even if Mr. Fan wasn’t purely an official member, he definitely held a position akin to that of a Guest Elder within the government.
From his relationship with the authorities, his phone, and his audacity to directly call government leaders, all these aspects strongly proved this point.
But Mr. Fan advised Yang Fan to stay away from official personnel, leaving Yang Fan somewhat puzzled.
Still, he didn’t plan to delve into the reason why.
Mr. Fan definitely wouldn’t harm him.
So, those reasons didn’t matter for now.
The three boarded the car and headed toward the town.
Mr. Fan didn’t bother explaining anything about his other phone; once he was in the car, he began feigning sleep.
He squinted for a bit, then lifted his head to glance at the sky.
Yang Fan, sitting in the backseat and leaning slightly forward, clearly noticed each time Mr. Fan raised his head.
Following Mr. Fan’s gaze, Yang Fan also looked up a few times, but apart from the azure sky and drifting white clouds, there was nothing else up there.
It was indeed a good weather day.
Up in the heavens lies a great secret.
But Yang Fan suppressed the curiosity bubbling up inside him.
Better not be curious about these things.
Even the mysterious occurrences before him were beyond his ability to handle—why worry about such distant matters?
It was a bit nonsensical.
Still, Yang Fan found himself feeling an unusual sense of urgency about growing stronger.
Only by attaining greater power could he deal with future complications and unravel the truth about this world.
Ghosts, monsters, the Alley Market that seemed almost like a marketplace of the human world, and the heavens above.
These things had all appeared before Yang Fan, yet he still couldn’t figure out why they existed.
The world unfolding before his eyes was like a giant, chaotic ball of tangled threads.
He couldn’t even find a loose thread to start untangling.
Meanwhile, Wang Daqiang was intensely curious about these matters, constantly mumbling questions about the mountain to Yang Fan.
Yang Fan brushed him off indistinctly, refusing to talk and simply saying it was something he couldn’t explain.
The town was reached.
Yun Miaoyi’s family was arranged to stay at a farm restaurant.
As soon as the car stopped, a crowd gathered around.
"Mr. Fan, seeing you safe and sound is truly such a relief!" Yun Miaoyi’s father grasped Mr. Fan’s hand with the expression of someone who survived a calamity, so emotional it seemed he might burst into tears the next second.
Yang Fan felt a bit bewildered by the heartfelt display of these two older men.
Was it really that dramatic?
"Fanzi, what exactly are you two up to? Pulling up your pants and being so irresponsible, is this it?" Fan Sisi scolded Yang Fan with a stern face.
Yang Fan was startled and quickly covered Fan Sisi’s mouth.
So many people around—was this kid out of her mind?
If Mr. Fan overheard, wouldn’t he kill him?
"Keep your voice down! Let’s talk calmly." Yang Fan hurriedly said in a low tone.
Fan Sisi slapped Yang Fan’s hand away yet lowered her voice, "What’s going on between you two? Clear this up for me. If you don’t explain everything today, I won’t let this go."
"No matter what approach you demand, I’ve cooperated fully, but you’ve done something so big without even giving me a heads-up. Don’t you realize how inconsiderate this is?"
"This matter... wasn’t it discussed before? It’s still about handling the trouble on the mountain," Yang Fan responded. "We figured it wasn’t good to alarm others, so we quietly headed up the mountain to keep you all from worrying excessively. The plan, actually, was quite solid between me and Grandpa. Who would’ve anticipated such unexpected developments?"
"Still about that matter?" Fan Sisi asked.
Yang Fan nodded, "Yes, from beginning to end just these two issues. Only this time, coincidentally, things went awry."
"You know exactly what it’s about; if we had talked about it again last night, none of you would have slept well—a situation no different from now."
This incident didn’t seem to tie into any sense of responsibility.
Fan Sisi pursed her lips, let out a heavy huff, "But you should’ve at least informed me! You disappeared all of a sudden, climbing walls in the dead of night—don’t you think you went too far?"
"If it weren’t for you being with Grandpa, I’d have suspected you were off committing some crime."
Yang Fan: ...
In that moment, he felt like betraying Mr. Fan.
"It was admittedly a bit irresponsible, but our intention was to relieve you all of worries," Yang Fan said sincerely.
Fan Sisi glared at Yang Fan with irritation, then her expression gradually softened after some time. "Fine... I was actually still worried about you—both of you. If you at least let me know where you’re going, I’d know what direction to focus my efforts."
"I’ll make sure to heed this next time," Yang Fan solemnly promised.
"...Hm," Fan Sisi replied softly, quietly tugging at Yang Fan’s hand.
Yang Fan leaned over and whispered in her ear, "You should be concerned about your grandpa first, or he’ll start getting jealous."
Fan Sisi lightly nodded.
Not far away, Mr. Fan finally withdrew the glances he’d been sneakily casting over and wore a faint smile.
In the afternoon, a middle-aged man in a red work uniform and still wearing a safety helmet arrived at the farm restaurant.
Mr. Fan called Yang Fan to meet the man in the orchard.
The farm restaurant’s owner seemed adept at utilizing space, as he had set up a tea garden within the orchard.
Guests could enjoy tea while snacking on self-serve fruit.
The variety was abundant, and with the trees mere steps away from the tea tables, freshness was guaranteed.
"What does someone with the surname Lai want from me again?" Mr. Fan regarded the man in red indifferently, took a tiny sip of tea, then smacked his lips in satisfaction.
Yang Fan and the man’s cups contained tea, but Mr. Fan’s cup held liquor.
The man in workwear chuckled lightly, "Don’t be like that, Mr. Fan—I haven’t even said anything, and you’re already acting as though you’re rejecting me. I’ve come with good news this time. That locust tree has been completely destroyed, not even the hair-thin roots were left intact."
"And you specifically came here to tell me this?" Mr. Fan appeared surprised. "When did someone with the surname Lai become so idle? If you’re really that free, I’ll find a couple of tasks for you—go handle them for me."
"If Mr. Fan has tasks to assign, no matter how busy I am, I’d surely make time for them," the man smiled.
Mr. Fan gave him a dismissive glance, "Spare me your frivolous attitude. Speak your mind—just get on with it."
The man in workwear laughed awkwardly, seemingly embarrassed.
"Well, it’s not that complicated. We’re just hoping you could lend us a little hand."
"Not happening," Mr. Fan responded firmly.
"Mr. Fan, a million, you know..." the man weakly hinted.
That comment seemed to strike a nerve with Mr. Fan. His eyes darted upward, "What’s that supposed to mean? Are you saying your million is meant to buy my life?"
The man’s face froze awkwardly, "Definitely not—I mean, it’s just... wouldn’t you agree we should see things through to the end?"
"Haven’t I?" Mr. Fan retorted.
