Chapter 740

Chapter 740: Chapter 740

In Yang Fan’s eyes, the sky was nothing more than blue skies and white clouds.

Even with his Heavenly Eye Technique activated.

But he knew that when Mr. Fan said such words, there must be more hidden in the sky.

What else could be in the sky?

Before Yang Fan could open his mouth, Mr. Fan spoke, "Don’t be curious about such things. When your strength is sufficient, you will see for yourself. The gaze of the weak, if it draws the attention of those entities, would only make your death come faster."

Yang Fan’s heart pounded heavily in his chest.

Alive?

There were other living entities in the sky?

This world... was a bit insane, wasn’t it?

At this moment, Yang Fan felt his whole worldview flip upside down.

For a time, he couldn’t clearly distinguish what was real and what was false.

Though the day was bright and clear, he felt chills running down his back.

He saw nothing in the vast open sky, but that didn’t stop his imagination from running wild.

Mr. Fan rarely said something so deeply philosophical, yet to Yang Fan’s ears, it was something profoundly terrifying.

"I’d better play it safe." Yang Fan shrank his neck and said.

For some reason, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was blowing on the back of his neck.

Mr. Fan seemed finally satisfied with Yang Fan’s attitude.

"Go down the mountain. You can now obediently go collect your medicines. The matters of the mountain—hear about them, but don’t delve too deeply into curiosity," Mr. Fan said with a faint smile.

"When you’ve finished dealing with your tasks here, I’ll go with you to look into that other matter."

Yang Fan nodded eagerly.

Despite his curiosity, he understood his own limitations.

Just then, Yang Fan’s phone suddenly let out a beep.

He pulled out his phone and glanced at it, freezing for a moment: "Ten, hundred, thousand... three hundred thousand? Insurance company?"

The notification displayed a deposit of three hundred thousand sent from some insurance company into his account.

Yang Fan racked his brain but couldn’t remember ever having dealings with an insurance company.

A mistake?

Mr. Fan glanced at him briefly and said nonchalantly, "That’s your reward for this time. After my relentless bargaining, they upped the reward to one million. That portion is yours."

Yang Fan was stunned. "Old man, are you just giving me money?"

Though the origin of the money was now clear, it felt like he hadn’t done much.

He’d only accompanied Mr. Fan up the mountain late at night, used the compass once, and spent a night there.

"You can think of it that way," Mr. Fan said with a faint smile.

Yang Fan pocketed his phone and turned to Mr. Fan with a sincere tone, "Thank you for the reward, Master!"

Mr. Fan’s tense face twitched slightly. "If you’d swapped out calling me ’old man’ or ’grandpa’ with ’Master’ earlier, maybe your reward would’ve been five hundred thousand."

"Can I change it now?" Yang Fan asked quickly.

"What do you think?"

"...No problem, three hundred thousand is plenty for me."

Though he’d been scared out of his wits, this was undoubtedly the easiest money Yang Fan had ever made.

It was only marginally harder than picking up cash off the street.

Mr. Fan’s expression immediately darkened.

Yang Fan quickly grinned and said, "Master, next time there’s another good deal like this, make sure to call me."

Mr. Fan’s face turned black as coal. "Kid, I advise you to quit while you’re ahead. Otherwise, I might eliminate my own disciple. Damn it, why do I feel like this turned into a name-change fee? Didn’t even charge you apprenticeship fees for becoming my student, and yet I’m paying for this name-change nonsense? Unheard of."

Yang Fan immediately straightened up obediently.

On closer examination, it really seemed like that was the case.

Yet this topic hadn’t been brought up by Yang Fan; it had been Mr. Fan who mentioned it himself.

While talking, the two of them had already descended the mountain.

But the village, which was fine yesterday, now had a row of barbed wires installed, with armed soldiers standing guard every few steps. When they saw Yang Fan and Mr. Fan, a group quickly ran to meet them with guns in hand.

"Old man—I mean, Master, what’s going on here?" Yang Fan asked.

After all, he’d already paid the name-change fee; the address had been corrected properly.

Mr. Fan gave Yang Fan a displeased look. "For safety," he replied.

"Ah, it’s Mr. Fan. Shall I escort you both out?" A soldier who looked like a squad leader gestured to his team to lower their guns upon recognizing Mr. Fan.

"Carry on with your duties," Mr. Fan said.

"...Understood!"

Mr. Fan nodded at the soldier and led Yang Fan out through a small gate nearby.

Yang Fan turned back to look at the mountain, where artillery was already flattening the terrain. A military blockade truly was a necessary procedure.

"I forgot to mention, the villagers have all been relocated to the town. Call that brat surnamed Wang to pick us up," Mr. Fan said suddenly.

"...Alright."

This was expected protocol, so Yang Fan didn’t ask more questions and pulled out his phone to call Wang Daqiang.

As soon as the call connected, Wang Daqiang screamed as if he’d seen a ghost: "Fanzi, you’re alive? Holy crap, that’s awesome, Miss Fan, Miss Yun, Fanzi is still alive—alive!"

Yang Fan: ...

He cast a weary glance at Mr. Fan. "Master, they seem to think we’re dead."

Mr. Fan calmly looked off into the distance, ignoring Yang Fan’s comment.

"Fanzi, you alright? How about my grandpa?" The voice on the phone switched to Fan Sisi.

"We’re fine. Get Old Wang to come pick us up at the village," Yang Fan said. "We’ll explain everything when we get back."

"Oh...okay." Fan Sisi suppressed the various anxieties in her heart and agreed.

The voice on the phone switched back to Wang Daqiang, who asked Yang Fan for his location before hanging up.

Yang Fan and Mr. Fan waited on-site for about half an hour before Wang Daqiang arrived.

The guy leapt out of his car and yelled, "Mr. Fan, Fanzi, it’s so great that you’re alive!"

"The two of you disappeared without a word, which made everyone in the village feel uneasy. We almost clashed with those soldiers up on the mountain!"

"How did it come to a clash?" Yang Fan asked.

Wang Daqiang explained, "Miss Yun said that since the two of you weren’t around, you’d probably gone up the mountain. But at dawn today, soldiers suddenly locked down Li Mountain, claiming they were conducting military exercises and forbidding anyone from going up."

"Worried about your safety, we tried explaining the situation and suggesting they search the mountain to bring you down. But they insisted the mountain had already been scouted and that there were no living people up there. Both sides held their ground, and things almost came to blows."

"What made it worse was that neither of your phones could be reached—all of them were out of service. Later, an officer showed up and confirmed you were fine. He said your whereabouts had been tracked and you’d be sent down later. That’s when we compromised."

Yang Fan turned to Mr. Fan. "Master, wasn’t your phone working earlier? I saw you texting."

"That was a different one," Mr. Fan replied.
