Chapter 727

Chapter 727: Chapter 727

Burning the ancestor of the Yun Family was quite simple—just a big fire, and in the end, only a few bones were left.

At this point, Yang Fan’s part of the job was done.

Next up was Mr. Gao’s work.

Yang Fan casually observed, but couldn’t pick up much. Even the markings on the compass were unrecognizable to him.

Specialized knowledge is required for everything, and mastering any skill isn’t easy.

By the time everything was wrapped up, it was already past 2 p.m.

Though it took quite a while, the task was completed smoothly.

Back at Yun Miaoyi’s house, the feast continued.

The lunch spread was far more lavish than breakfast—not exactly delicacies, but in the countryside, this kind of meal was considered top-notch. The table alone had a budget over one thousand yuan.

Mr. Fan still hadn’t returned.

After finishing the meal, Yang Fan couldn’t help but call Mr. Fan.

No matter how busy Mr. Fan was at the moment, Yang Fan had to ask—it was weighing on his mind.

Mr. Fan had said he’d return by the afternoon at the latest, but it was now past 3 p.m. Yang Fan was worried something might have happened to the old fellow. He couldn’t calm down without asking.

The call only connected after two attempts. Mr. Fan’s weary voice came through, "Kid, nothing unexpected happened with the Yun Family, right?"

"No surprises. Everything went smoothly, but old-timer, you’re likely going to miss the meal," Yang Fan teased before asking, "How’s it going on your end? Everything okay?"

"No issues, just one thing that’s hard to find. Took me a bit of extra time," Mr. Fan replied. "Since everything went fine, just chill there for now—I’m not in a rush. I’ll find a spot to catch a nap and rest up a bit."

"You’ve got the luxury to sleep now? Looks like I worried for nothing." Yang Fan chuckled.

"What nonsense are you spouting? I haven’t shut my eyes since last night, and you don’t think I’m allowed to sleep?" Mr. Fan grumbled in irritation. "Now that the Yun Family’s matter is resolved, all that’s left is to collect the money. If you don’t want to hang around at the Yun Family’s place, pick anywhere else you’d prefer."

The Li Mountain situation isn’t urgent right this second. When I come back, I’ll explain everything. If I don’t rest up, how can I go into battle? This time, kid, there’s a chance you might lose your grandpa."

Yang Fan: ...

This old fellow sure knows how to punch back with his remarks now.

"I thought you rushed off to bring reinforcements. Turns out, after all this effort, it’s just us handling it ourselves?" Yang Fan said. "For something this big, I suggest we don’t charge ahead ourselves—let’s report it to the authorities instead."

"You think I don’t want to?" Mr. Fan sighed deeply, "I reported it last night, but the authorities currently don’t have manpower to spare. After assessing the situation, they advised us to take the lead—not to annihilate the enemy or fully resolve the issue, but to figure out what that old locust tree is plotting."

"I thought it over and agreed. No manpower from the authorities, but we can barely manage. We can’t sit idle and watch things unfold. Plus, there’s money involved—this round’s fifty thousand. Feeling tempted yet, kid?"

"Not really," Yang Fan shook his head. "The amount is nowhere near proportional to the risks we’re taking. No deal. The authorities are being stingy. Putting our lives on the line, and they offer fifty thousand?"

"It’s just figuring out the locust tree’s purpose and monitoring it for now. What more do you expect? Kid, are you getting greedy now? Fifty thousand, and you think the authorities are stingy?" Mr. Fan exclaimed in surprise.

"Oh... that actually sounds fair. Acceptable, I guess," Yang Fan said. "So, what’s your plan, old-timer? By the way, how much would my cut be?"

"Depends on your performance. Share based on effort—any complaints?" Mr. Fan asked.

"No complaints, perfectly reasonable," Yang Fan replied. "If I were more capable, I’d head to the mountain right now. Fast cash—do a few more rounds, and maybe I can hit my second life goal."

"What’s your second life goal?" Mr. Fan asked.

"Five hundred grand," Yang Fan said.

He’s already nearly hit his first goal of earning one million.

Though Zhang Yulan’s share was part of it, that still barely counted as reaching his goal.

The second goal was five hundred grand.

"Alright, I’ll give you five hundred grand if you break up with my granddaughter," Mr. Fan said.

"Seriously, old man? You’re hitting me with this classic move?" Yang Fan was stunned.

Such a classic drama, yet to have it happen to him one day was beyond belief.

"Stop your ’seriously,’ just tell me if this is doable," Mr. Fan asked.

Yang Fan smirked mischievously, "Alright, old man, how about this—you bring out the five million first, and I’ll discuss it with Sisi. How does that sound? Five million and Sisi are equally important; I need to handle this with care."

"Get lost!" Mr. Fan cursed angrily.

"Old man, I’ll be sure to mention this to Sisi. Hope you’re ready for the storm that’s coming," Yang Fan said ominously. "To think you’d rather put up five million for me to break up with Sisi—I’m suddenly really hurt. Damn, that’s downright brutal. You’d rather give up five million than accept me as your grandson-in-law, sigh..."

"Cut the theatrics. If you’re not seeing anyone else, I can take out five million for you two to buy a house, a car, and host the wedding—you wouldn’t need to spend a dime," Mr. Fan snapped.

"But being the scoundrel you are, if you’ve got another girlfriend, you’d better sort things out before opening your mouth again."

"Oh, true," Yang Fan chuckled. "Now that I think about it, maybe I was overreacting. I don’t deserve this. But I’m still telling Sisi about it."

Mr. Fan gritted his teeth for a while before saying, "This time’s fifty thousand—I’ll give you twenty!"

"Twenty grand, huh... I’ll need to think hard about this. What can I do to make it worth twenty grand?" Yang Fan said thoughtfully.

Mr. Fan was so furious he swore, "Damn it, fine—twenty grand! I’ll do the work; you just assist. What more do you want? Try negotiating one more time, and you’ll get nothing."

"I wasn’t negotiating, old-timer. Your hearing must be going—I was trying to say whether I’m worth ten grand," Yang Fan laughed. "But since you’re being so generous, I’ll take it gladly."

"Get lost! Just hang up already!" Mr. Fan shouted heatedly. "Keep chatting with you any longer, and my nap’s ruined."

"Got it!"

Yang Fan cheerfully hung up the phone and turned to Fan Sisi, who was sitting beside him. "This technically doesn’t break our agreement, right? I didn’t actually tell you, see?"
