Chapter 721
Chapter 721: Chapter 721
"Miss Ji, are you saying the mastermind behind this concentrated outbreak of the mysterious entities is a locust tree?"
On the way, Yang Fan asked curiously.
A single tree managed to control hundreds, even thousands, of mysterious entities.
This was something Yang Fan had never encountered before.
"Big brother, there’s no need to be so formal, just call me Dong’er." Ji Dong’er said with a smile, "This locust tree on Li Mountain has quite the history, apparently it’s been around for over a thousand years. It’s pretty much the overlord of this area. Before I came here, I even made a point to visit it."
"But I still don’t understand why it suddenly summoned so many mysterious entities tonight. What’s its purpose? I can’t figure it out."
Yang Fan furrowed his brows and asked, "So you’re saying it might not be completely bad?"
"Probably not. I’m new here, so I don’t know much about its affairs. But looking at the sinister and eerie atmosphere surrounding Li Mountain, it doesn’t seem like it’s a good guy." Ji Dong’er replied.
"I visited it mainly to ask this local tyrant to behave and not stir up trouble. Since I’m new around here, if I don’t pay a visit to these troublesome figures, I might end up being harassed."
Yang Fan mulled over her words and said with some resignation, "Li Mountain truly is a gathering place for extraordinary entities. Just one day here, and my horizons have been broadened by who knows how many miles. Zombies, a thousand-year-old locust tree, a ghostly parade of hundreds, this place is utterly absurd."
"And don’t forget me, the humble River God!" Ji Dong’er joked.
Yang Fan acknowledged her words with a nod.
"Do you have the confidence to deal with that locust tree?" Yang Fan asked, turning his head toward her.
Ji Dong’er shook her head. "Big brother, that thing... I can’t beat it. It’s been rooted here for over a thousand years, its roots are intertwined with the very foundation of this mountain. Big brother, do you even understand what that means?"
"It’s part of the mountain itself?" Yang Fan asked.
Ji Dong’er nodded, "That’s about right. To a certain extent, it’s merged with the mountain. Facing it would mean fighting both the thousand-year-old Tree Demon and the entirety of Li Mountain."
"Certainly a tough opponent." Yang Fan couldn’t help but worry about Mr. Fan.
He didn’t know Mr. Fan’s exact strength, but regarding this tree, he was starting to get a clear picture—it was formidable.
The two quickened their pace as Ji Dong’er led the way to the locust tree’s location.
As luck would have it, the spot was located just diagonally above Siwa Cave, on the mountainside, roughly a quarter of the way to the peak.
When Yang Fan and Ji Dong’er arrived, Mr. Fan was sitting cross-legged on the ground, cursing the locust tree’s ancestors with a barrage of foul language, clearly fuming.
The old locust tree, with its thick and weathered trunk marked by the passage of time, stood silently under the night sky, utterly still. On the surface, it appeared just as ordinary as any other old locust tree.
The strangest part was that even with Heavenly Eye Technique active, Yang Fan couldn’t discern anything unusual about the tree.
To him, it looked like just a plain locust tree.
"Old man, are you okay?" Yang Fan shouted.
"Okay? Okay my ass! This despicable tree dared to use something as vile as the Thousand Years of Death against me. I’m already an old geezer not far from the grave, and it used that move on me—more than once, mind you! I’m furious!" Mr. Fan roared angrily.
Seeing how full of energy he still was, Yang Fan’s previously anxious heart immediately settled.
It seemed Mr. Fan was quite powerful. Even the locust tree wasn’t able to deal with him.
"You scoundrel, come out! Stop hiding like a cowardly turtle. You wanted to test me, didn’t you? Come on, then! Stop being such a wimp—what’s the point of hiding underground? You have the guts to use underhanded tricks, but not the courage to show yourself?" Mr. Fan kept shouting at the old locust tree.
"Do you think your roots stretching into the mountain’s core make you untouchable? That I, an old geezer, can’t do anything to you, like a dog biting a turtle with no way to strike? Let me tell you, if that’s your line of thinking, you won’t live much longer."
"I’ll just spend some money to dig a tunnel at the foot of the mountain and plant a few signal towers on your head. Let’s see how you continue to bounce back. Think you can keep tapping into the mountain’s energy? No way! Now get out here!"
Mr. Fan was so enraged that he didn’t even spare a glance at Yang Fan and Ji Dong’er, passionately cursing away.
Most remarkable of all, while berating the old locust tree, he didn’t hold back and even scolded himself in the process.
Yet the locust tree remained utterly silent and motionless.
Mr. Fan sat there cross-legged, cursing for a full hour before finally running out of steam. He stood up, walked boldly toward the locust tree, and raised his right hand, forming it into a knife before swinging it fiercely at one of the tree’s sturdy branches.
With that simple motion, the tree branch was neatly severed and fell to the ground.
Witnessing this scene, Yang Fan felt a chill run down his spine.
Lately, Mr. Fan had been demonstrating that very same move to him.
Yang Fan silently admitted that his neck wasn’t as tough as the branch of this thousand-year-old Tree Demon.
Mr. Fan’s prowess exceeded Yang Fan’s expectations.
Using bare hands and Qi to cut through the branch of a thousand-year-old Tree Demon—that was no feat an ordinary person could accomplish.
This wasn’t just any tree branch; it belonged to a Tree Demon.
His Inner Qi must have been cultivated to an incredibly terrifying level.
Yang Fan, with his current four strands of Inner Qi, could shatter an ordinary tree with a single strike.
But this was no ordinary tree; it was the branch of a Tree Demon.
Mr. Fan grabbed the severed branch and strode over confidently. "Consider this interest for now. I’ll come back another day to settle the score!"
"Master, badass!" Yang Fan had no words to accurately describe the scene; he went for something simple and straightforward.
This old locust tree, known to be immensely powerful and a true local tyrant according to Ji Dong’er, had not only been forced into hiding by Mr. Fan’s tirade but also allowed him to chop off a branch without any retaliation. Clearly, there’d been a tussle earlier, and the tree had been frightened.
The old locust tree had cowered and didn’t dare make a move.
Mr. Fan waved dismissively. "Let’s go home."
Suddenly, he noticed Ji Dong’er standing next to Yang Fan. "Who’s this? You brat, how do you keep picking up women wherever you go? And a River God, no less... Kid, don’t you think you’re overextending yourself a bit?"
"Senior, it’s me, Ji Dong’er. How could you not recognize me?" Ji Dong’er said with a hint of grievance.
Mr. Fan furrowed his brows, studied her carefully, and asked, "I’m supposed to know you, right?"
"I’m the one you pried off the wall. Surely you must remember me now?" Ji Dong’er said faintly.
Finally, realization dawned on Mr. Fan. "Oh, it’s you, silly girl. You’ve changed too much—I couldn’t recognize you. You can’t blame an old geezer like me for poor manners; age takes a toll on one’s ability to recognize people."
