Chapter 703: Chapter 703

Yang Fan could imagine the emotional journey Fan Sisi went through that night.

After all, he had been through it himself.

It’s just that he had always been rather bold, and his terror didn’t last long. Once he discovered hacking those things could increase his Inner Qi and make himself stronger, fear turned into excitement.

"I think there’s something wrong with the way your grandfather teaches this stuff," Yang Fan said. "How could someone who’s always lived under the sunlight not be scared when suddenly seeing those things?"

"My grandpa says that to enter this profession, you must first overcome the fear in your heart. If fear keeps gripping your mind, even if you learn it, you’re doomed not to last." Fan Sisi mumbled.

"Anyway, I have no right to deal with these things anymore. Just hearing about the Heavenly Eye Technique sends shivers down my spine."

"That makes some sense," Yang Fan said, "If you’re too scared, then let it be."

"Anyway, don’t be nervous now, this thing shouldn’t pose any danger to us. Plus, I just checked, there’s nothing scary here. The only reason we feel it’s creepy is because the covering above is too tight, blocking out the light."

Hearing this, Sisi’s mind eased a bit, "As long as there’s nothing scary, I’m always afraid that something with a ghastly green face and sharp teeth will suddenly jump out and bite my neck."

"It’s okay, don’t be nervous," Yang Fan reassured with a smile, "You keep an eye on the fire, I’m going to take a little advantage first and see what’s different about cultivating with Spiritual Energy."

He wasn’t in a rush to open the Dong Mansion to see what was inside.

Take a little advantage first, get a taste of the sweetness.

If the Dong Mansion was opened and the Spiritual Energy whizzed out all at once, that would be a huge loss.

Fan Sisi nodded obediently.

Yang Fan moved a few steps towards the edge of the cave entrance and sat down cross-legged where the Spiritual Energy was dissipating most fiercely.

The only Breathing Technique Mr. Fan had taught him was through understanding and guiding the flow of Qi with Magic.

Yang Fan took out the book Mr. Fan had given him from his chest.

The third Magic following the Heavenly Eye Technique is called Earth Mechanism.

This is a defensive Magic.

By harnessing the Earth Mechanism and pouring it into one’s feet, forming a barrier of Earth Qi around the body, one roots themselves to the earth, using it to counter attacks from Evil Spirits.

Yang Fan memorized the essentials of the Earth Mechanism in his heart, then stood up, planted his feet firmly on the ground, with toes gripping the earth, and hands shaped like they were grasping the ground, pressing on his forehead to open the Ren and Du Meridians.

"Come on, let me see how fierce you really are," Yang Fan muttered to himself, took a deep breath, and began visualization and comprehension by engaging with the Spiritual Energy flowing beside him.

The Spiritual Energy entered through his mouth and nose, flowing down the Ren Meridian. The sensation was as clear as thunder, the flow of his vital energy accelerated instantly, transforming from a trickling stream into a raging river in a moment.

In just about a quarter of an hour, his vital energy had circled through the Twelve Meridians, then along the Du Meridian rising up, completing a Circulation.

As it ended its journey, Earth Qi followed, rushing up from Yang Fan’s feet through points like Yongquan and Three Yin Jiao. The Yin Qi took the lead, then returned to Yang, completing a major cycle.

The instant this cycle was formed, Yang Fan could very clearly feel a slight pulsing in his acupoints all over his body, similar to the vibrations of a loudspeaker, followed by a surge of a profound and heavy Qi engulfing him.

"So that’s how it works, somewhat magical," Yang Fan felt pleasantly surprised.

Under introspection, the sensation of Qi and blood wandering about gave him the feeling of being immersed in a mysterious world.

However, his knowledge of medicine had yet to be considered basic, leaving him unclear about which meridians the Earth Qi traversed first.

After one circulation of Spiritual Energy and Earth Qi, the Inner Qi in Yang Fan’s Dantian suddenly surged up nearly an inch, as if it were being forced to grow prematurely—a progress that shocked Yang Fan.

He hoped the Inner Qi could grow faster, but when it suddenly did, he started worrying about potential unexpected issues.

Cultivation is a process of gradual accumulation and sudden breakthroughs; too swift a progress is definitely not a good sign.

"Let’s try again."

Yang Fan calmed his mind and continued to mobilize Spiritual Power.

After completing the second circulation, the progress of his Inner Qi seemed to slow down; this time it grew only about five parts of an inch. The fluctuation of Inner Qi left Yang Fan somewhat bemused.

Did his Inner Qi spot something good, got overly excited at the first taste and then settled down by the second?

Yang Fan kept trying, and after six circulations, he finally discerned the pattern of Inner Qi flow: it was erratic, spiking and dipping without a fixed rate of progress.

During the fourth circulation, it surged again, though it did not reach a full inch.

By the sixth time, it moved only a tiny bit.

So far, what Yang Fan could see was that there was no pattern at all.

He couldn’t determine what factors caused such variations, as long as it was safe, it was fine.

After what seemed to be eleven or twelve continuous circulations, Yang Fan wasn’t certain of the count, he stopped when he began to feel fatigued.

"Fanzi, how is it? Notice any difference?" Fan Sisi asked curiously.

Although she was timid, it didn’t dampen her curiosity about such matters.

"The benefits are significant, three to five circulations are almost equivalent to the benefits of chopping... reading a few days’ worth of books," Yang Fan almost slipped up in his words.

He decided to keep this matter under wraps for the time being and would only discuss it with Mr. Fan later if he couldn’t figure it out.

"Reading books?" Fan Sisi asked in confusion.

Yang Fan nodded, "Yes, reading books and practicing visualization for cultivation, like the book your grandfather gave."

"Oh, that’s good if it’s effective," Fan Sisi glanced at the cave behind Yang Fan, "Since you’re not in danger, shall we go in to have a look? I’m a bit curious, you think there could be any treasures left inside?"

"That’s indeed possible," Yang Fan said, "This place is obviously an ancient site of cultivation; perhaps it’s like the place we stayed in yesterday, with some incredible items left behind."

"I chatted with Boss Chen this morning; he said that the Immortal Cave did have numerous discoveries. The first person who went in took a lot of good things and then vanished. Later, when the local villagers discovered the Immortal Cave, they reported it, and everything was confiscated. Allegedly, just the cleaning took several months, and they even sealed off the mountain base at that time."

"You mean the place where we stayed last night?" Fan Sisi exclaimed with her little mouth wide open.

Yang Fan nodded, "Yes, that place is the Immortal Cave Scenic Area."

"So that was actually the Immortal Cave; I completely followed the coordinates you gave and didn’t look in detail," Fan Sisi said, "Fanzi, I think the first one who went in must have also entered into cultivation; maybe they’ve already reached Old Niu’s level by now."
