Chapter 666: Chapter 666

Chen Zhong jumped off the building at his own workplace, and the security there is not like that of a normal residential complex, nodding off as soon as it gets a bit late at night. There, people are truly on duty at night, and not just a single person.

The noise of someone falling from a building is not small; if that didn’t attract their attention, then the matter would definitely be suspicious.

"That second-in-command has a fierce temper. Even after someone dies, he actually wants to leave the body out for a while, to vent his anger!" Yang Fan shook his head and said, although the problem had been solved, he didn’t feel particularly joyful, just a bit relieved at heart.

Wei Jin nodded and said, "We often say when a person dies, their debts are cancelled. For most people, this statement is true; once someone dies, there’s no reason to bother with any previous grudges. But that second-in-command isn’t like that. He’s the type who insists on cutting the grass and removing the roots, destroying the corpse to ensure no trace remains."

"I shouldn’t have to deal with a wolf after just fighting off a tiger, should I?" Yang Fan suddenly muttered while sipping his tea.

"No!" Wei Jin said with certainty, "Those things in your hands pose a threat to Chen Zhong but don’t involve anyone else. However, the things your sister-in-law holds are difficult to say; they probably involve that second-in-command."

"However, I’m quite familiar with that second-in-command, and I’ll probe him when the time comes. Unless something unexpected happens, he probably won’t escalate matters further now. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, and he and your sister-in-law are now in the same camp. With Chen Zhong gone, their issues should be even easier to resolve."

"Brother Wei, thank you so much," said Yang Fan, raising his tea cup.

Wei Jin waved his hand indifferently, "What’s this? There’s no need for such formalities."

"I’m just being politely brief," Yang Fan chuckled.

Laughing, Wei Jin shook his head, "A brief courtesy with me is just right, otherwise it’s uncomfortable. With Chen Zhong gone, the weight on your mind should have finally been lifted, right?"

"I think, the most important thing for this guy now is that he can blatantly..." Old Zhou suddenly lowered his voice, sneakily making eye signals to Wei Jin, and muttered a few words.

Seeing his behavior, Yang Fan knew this guy was up to no good, probably eight or nine times out of ten talking about him and Zhang Yulan, suggesting that with Chen Zhong gone, he and Zhang Yulan could shamelessly be together now.

For him and Zhang Yulan to want to openly be shameless, that wouldn’t be easy.

Although the hurdle of the sister-in-law had been cleared, there was still Little Mother and Wei Juan.

If either one of them objected, Yang Fan would not be able to shamelessly be with Zhang Yulan.

"Fanzi, there’s one more thing," Wei Jin suddenly seemed to remember something, and said to Yang Fan.

"If we don’t mention your sister-in-law, I almost forgot about this. In his will, Chen Zhong left all his possessions to your sister-in-law, claiming that he had done many things wrong to her, and that those things were the only reparations he could make, hoping that your sister-in-law could have a good life in the future," he explained.

"That will was certainly not written by Chen Zhong himself, was it?" Yang Fan asked.

It seemed there was quite a bit of information here.

Wei Jin snorted with laughter and said, "Perhaps it was written by Chen Zhong, but surely someone forced him with a knife to his throat. It’s absolutely impossible for him to have written it voluntarily. In fact, Chen Zhong always valued his own life very much, even asking me for advice on whether it was an auspicious time for him to travel far. It’s a pity that those who value their own lives don’t care about the lives of others and end up dying miserably."

"What I’m trying to say is that this will could be somewhat considered as a statement of attitude from the second-in-command. I suggest that if our sister-in-law has nothing pressing these next few days, she should go to the funeral home to oversee Chen Zhong’s affairs, then meet with the second-in-command afterward to touch base."

"However, Fanzi, it’s better if you don’t go. At this critical juncture, it’s not appropriate for you to appear. Not only that, but I also think you should take some time away, to remove yourself from these people’s sightlines, you know?"

Yang Fan was puzzled, "Why is that?"

"Let me put it this way," Wei Jin replaced the tea leaves that had grown stale with fresh ones, and after a brief moment of contemplation, he continued, "You know how people flock with their kind, and things gather with their like, they may fight tooth and nail against each other, with all sorts of schemes due to their own interests. But really, their struggles are internal!"

"The conflict between you and Chen Zhong, however, is between two different levels, two different groups. The leverage you hold over Chen Zhong puts you in direct conflict with him, and in their eyes, that’s a direct offense and threat to them."

"Even if they have issues with Chen Zhong, or even if they have nothing at all to do with this affair, they still regard you as a thorn in their side. In plain terms, the things you’re holding over Chen Zhong and the way you’ve handled things have caused them unease and aversion. They wouldn’t want such incidents to ever happen to them."

Yang Fan understood, "So you’re saying my actions have struck a nerve with their collective sensitivities."

Wei Jin gave a thumbs up, "Exactly the point."

"Your best move now would be to seize the opportunity to leave for a while and fade from these people’s sight. Everyone is busy with their own myriad affairs, and in time, they will forget about this situation. Being occupied with making money, entertaining, and fooling around with Little Mothers, who would bother to dwell on this matter?"

Yang Fan let out a mocking chuckle, "I’ll follow Brother Wei’s advice. I’ll sort out my affairs today and set out tomorrow, wandering outside for a month or two before I return."

"That should be about right, there’s no need for it to be too brief," said Wei Jin.

He had considered the matter with great detail; if he were to do a couple more calculations for Yang Fan, his professionalism would be at its peak.

"Other than that, I don’t think there’s anything else to watch out for, so... let’s have tea," Wei Jin concluded after pondering a while.

For Yang Fan’s case, he too had sacrificed quite a few brain cells, almost considering every angle for Yang Fan.

In the small courtyard that was still hot at the tail end of summer, the three of them chatted briefly about other matters and had another cup of tea before Wei Jin and Old Zhou took their leave.

After sending them to their car, Yang Fan returned to the small courtyard and found Zhang Yulan, then relayed to her the things that Wei Jin had just instructed.

"If it’s something Wei Jin has tasked us with, then we should just do as he says," Zhang Yulan had no objections.

"If he has no reason to set us up, then his advice is absolutely correct."

Yang Fan was just about to say that Chen Zhong ended up in a passive situation, forced to jump off a building, precisely because he heeded Wei Jin’s words.

"Even so, I think you should still be careful," Yang Fan said, not entirely at ease.

"No worries, I’m familiar with the second-in-command as well, and we have some mutual interests, our interaction should go smoother than what Wei Jin has anticipated," said Zhang Yulan with a light laugh.
