Chapter 665: Chapter 665

Yang Fan slept until after two in the afternoon, and that was only because Ye Tong forcibly woke him up; otherwise, Yang Fan felt he could have easily slept through the entire evening. Even though he got out of bed, his mind still seemed to be resting on the pillow.

"Where are those two cowards?" Yang Fan asked, rubbing his sore eyelids, as he spoke to the sister-in-law beside him.

"They’re drinking tea in the courtyard." In Ye Tong’s eyes, there was a faint blush hinting at shyness, like a delicate rose after the rain, radiating an alluring charm.

"They’re much more spirited than you. They woke up at noon. When Meng Zhu came back, we cleaned up lunch together. After eating, I figured it was about time to wake you up. Even if you eat something and go back to sleep, it would be better."

"They’re older than you, and though their bodies don’t seem as sturdy as yours, their vitality outshines you. You, on the other hand, can’t seem to wake up fully and look utterly listless. You should really drink less in the future."

Yang Fan nodded, "Definitely need to cut back on the drinking. It seems my alcohol tolerance isn’t very good."

"Also, it’s a bit strange. I didn’t do anything last night, but I feel as if I’ve been in a fierce battle the whole night, I feel a sort of weakness in that regard. It’s not too severe, but I just don’t feel clear-headed."

Ye Tong and Zhang Yulan glanced at each other, their cheeks turning a shade redder.

Zhang Yulan said with a smile, "You did indeed battle it out last night, but with drinking, nothing else. Then you went to sleep. With the way you were, what else could have happened? Maybe it was a dream? I’ve heard that if things that happen in dreams are too vivid, they can affect the body too. That thing that happens to adolescents, what’s it called, right? Maybe you should check your pants?"

Dreaming definitely affects the body, a fact Yang Fan could firmly attest to.

During his adolescent years, the protagonist of those dreams was always the object of his secret crush, whom he hasn’t seen in a very long time.

The dream was quite peculiar; the face was often blurry, but that behind was truly beautiful.

To this day, Yang Fan still vividly remembers it.

"But last night, no, today, I didn’t dream at all." Yang Fan muttered as he lifted his pants for a look.

It was clean, nothing there.

Zhang Yulan pursed her lips, nearly failing to stifle her laughter.

Meanwhile, Ye Tong was shyly looking down, busying herself with other things to divert her attention.

The two of them had cleaned up the battlefield very thoroughly.

"This is really strange. No dreams, nothing actually happened, yet I have this feeling. It seems like the drinking messed up my system," Yang Fan mumbled, shaking his head.

"That’s why you should drink less in the future. Don’t end up with kidney deficiency due to drinking and affect your happiness later," Zhang Yulan said seriously, though the corners of her mouth twitched uncontrollably.

Yang Fan didn’t notice Zhang Yulan’s micro-expressions, nodding in agreement, "Indeed, I really do need to drink less; can’t go on like this, it’ll ruin me."

"I’ll go outside and check on them. Oh, what do we have to eat at home right now?"

Ye Tong said, "Whatever you want to eat, just say the word. Everything’s convenient here."

"Then let’s go with some soup noodles. My stomach doesn’t feel great, don’t want anything else," Yang Fan said.

"Okay, got it."

In the courtyard, Wei Jin and Old Zhou were gathered around the stove making tea.

Seeing Yang Fan staggering out, Wei Jin joked, "Brother Fanzi, you really can’t hold your liquor, what happened that you can’t even outdrink two old-timers like us?"

"Young people need to sleep more," said Yang Fan. "Besides, Brother Wei, you have the nerve to say that? Haven’t you counted how many bottles I drank last night? You two kept finding ways to get me to drink more. Out of five bottles, I drank nearly three, right? There’s definitely a difference between one jin and three jin of alcohol."

"The fact that I’m still standing is pretty damn impressive."

Before last night’s drinking, Old Zhou was Yang Fan’s good big brother, and Wei Jin was a magnanimous good buddy.

But after that round of drinks, in Yang Fan’s eyes, the two of them turned into cunning cowards, utterly despicable.

The drinking was supposed to be simple, and most of the time they’d clink glasses and drink, but the fact that Yang Fan ended up drinking two whole bottles more than them shows just how skilled these two were at coaxing others to drink more.

They were truly masters of their craft.

Wei Jin chuckled, raised his left hand grandly and said, "Fanzi, forget that, just tell me, did you have fun drinking last night? Were you happy?"

"That’s true," replied Yang Fan with drooping eyelids.

I must admit we did have a jolly good chat.

"But, that doesn’t change the fact that you two are a couple of old cowards," added Yang Fan.

"Fanzi, now that’s not fair. We were just trying to make it a fun time for everyone," laughed Wei Jin as he handed over a cup of freshly brewed tea. "Here, have some tea to soothe the hangover, and I’ll tell you some amazing news."

As he spoke, he took out his cell phone secretively and showed Yang Fan a chat history, "Look at this, insider news, Chen Zhong died early this morning. Notice the timing, in the early hours. That practically reflects the mood of the second-in-command, he couldn’t wait for Chen Zhong to die sooner."

"Chen Zhong came to see me before I came here yesterday. Based on this timing, he definitely must have seen the second-in-command last night and then the second-in-command took swift action, very eager."

"Died just like that?" Yang Fan asked with surprise.

Wei Jin nodded, "Just like that, only dead men tell no tales, you know. If he had gone to trial, the information he might spill would not let many in Xin’an rest easy."

"Even if Chen Zhong hadn’t died at the hands of the second-in-command, there are plenty now who’d want him dead. Only through death can he keep the secrets, ensuring the peace of others, otherwise, no one could sleep at night."

"Especially when he showed signs of threatening to drag others down with him, that makes others even more uneasy!"

Yang Fan suddenly felt a bit dazed.

He had treated this matter as a major battle, and now, it had ended so abruptly, so unexpectedly.

"How did he die?" Yang Fan asked.

"He left a suicide note and jumped from his office building," said Wei Jin. "It was only discovered this morning when everyone arrived for work, then he was rushed to the hospital, his brain was smashed to pieces, and they even went through the motions of attempting to resuscitate him."

Yang Fan’s brows furrowed slightly, "How could it be that no one realized until the early hours in that place?"

Wei Jin chuckled, "Hua Sheng, you’ve spotted the blind spot. What could be the reason? Obviously, they hoped Chen Zhong would dangle there a bit longer, the person behind it all is upset, holding a grudge."
