Happy Little Farmer -
Chapter 563
Chapter 563: Chapter 563
Since Old Zhou was there, Yang Fan definitely couldn’t join in the excitement anymore.
Just as Little Mother had said, even though the two of them were already divorced, if Old Zhou knew he was now involved with Zhu Shanshan, Old Zhou might not say anything on the surface, but he would definitely feel like a thorn was stuck in his heart.
And about the matter of being on guard, Zhu Shanshan would surely tell Old Zhou about it as well.
If Old Zhou knew the situation, he would definitely not stand idly by, so there wasn’t much for him to worry about.
Yang Fan got back on the tricycle and was just about to start it when he suddenly stopped again.
It seemed like there was still a problem...
If he had to tell Old Zhou the truth, it seemed he couldn’t avoid being involved.
If Zhu Shanshan and Fan Sisi made up a lie about the two of them being in cohorts, the loophole would be just too big.
Unless...
Fan Sisi took the fall.
It was Fan Sisi who was involved with him, and it was she who had asked for his help. That way, it might explain things clearly.
Worried that Zhu Shanshan and Fan Sisi might do something stupid, Yang Fan immediately took out his phone, intending to send Fan Sisi a message.
But before he could send the message, Old Zhou’s call came through first.
Looking at the familiar number, Yang Fan felt inexplicably anxious.
He really felt guilty as a thief!
Taking a deep breath, Yang Fan answered the call.
"Fanzi," Old Zhou’s voice came through on the phone.
"Hey."
Yang Fan responded nervously; he didn’t dare to start a conversation.
"Do you have something on today?" Old Zhou asked.
Composing himself, Yang Fan replied, "Right now, I’m free. Just speak your mind, why be so formal with me? Please tell me!"
"Well, it’s a good thing. I want to invite you to dinner tonight," Old Zhou chuckled.
Yang Fan immediately had a bad feeling.
Could it be?
Could it be that Zhu Shanshan and Fan Sisi, these two wily characters, actually let Old Zhou discover something?
"If there’s something to say, just say it. Why be so cautious and modest? Is this meal even going to be tasty?" Yang Fan forcefully maintained his composure as he spoke.
Old Zhou let out a chuckle, "It should be tasty. Your sister-in-law, no, your former sister-in-law told me about last night’s incident. Ah, I was just curious to see what kind of prince charming your former sister-in-law had found. Hey, it turned out to be a vicious connection. Thankfully, Sisi is clever and thought to call you over. Otherwise, that old girl would have definitely been done for."
"This meal, on one hand, is to thank you. Although I don’t seem to have the right to say this now, but titles aside, it doesn’t matter."
"What I really want to say is, now that I’m aware of the situation, obviously I can’t turn a blind eye, right? After all, there was some connection once upon a time. My idea is, we have a meal together, discuss how we can turn the tables on that damn rich second generation.
There’s an ancient saying, right? You can’t be a thief for a thousand days without guarding against one. We have to nail him!"
Yang Fan was taken aback; Old Zhou’s speech was loaded with content.
But what Yang Fan really cared about were actually two points.
It was Sisi’s cleverness in finding him...
So the subtext of that sentence seemed to be the very thing he had been about to remind Fan Sisi about.
The other was Old Zhou’s ambition.
This courage seems a bit wicked!
He didn’t quibble over the matter Old Zhou mentioned last night, but instead asked directly, "Old Zhou, that guy is no ordinary person, are you sure you want to do this?"
"Have to do it, must do it!" Old Zhou said gravely, "He may be Xin’an’s jianghu wanderer, that’s true. But I, Zhou Weixiong, am not a vegetarian. Though we might not be local snakes, we could at least be considered earthworms on the ground. Even if I can’t take him down, I’ve got to get under his skin."
"Fanzi, don’t think that kid acts so wildly without care, as if no one in Xin’an can touch him. Every person has their weaknesses. Once we find his, we will have the chance to bring him down."
"You set the place, and we’ll meet to talk," Yang Fan said.
"Right next to your former sister-in-law’s shop, there’s a place for eating seafood. How about we grab a simple meal there?" Old Zhou said. "If there’s something you want to eat, you order."
"I’m good with anything, then it’s settled. I’ll probably need a while before I can get there," Yang Fan said.
He needed a bit more time to check his story with Fan Sisi.
"Alright, alright, then I’ll go ahead and order," Old Zhou cheerfully replied.
After hanging up the phone, Yang Fan immediately sent a message to Fan Sisi, asking about the script they had prepared for Old Zhou, especially some details. Otherwise, who knows if he might give himself away while chatting later.
After sending the message, Yang Fan couldn’t help but let out a wry smile.
It really was like having a guilty conscience!
And it was troublesome.
Fan Sisi’s message came back quickly, and her story was pretty much the same as what Yang had thought.
Given the current conditions, this should be considered the best solution.
Fortunately, they hadn’t done anything foolish.
After confirming that there weren’t any slip-ups, Yang Fan took his time smoking a cigarette by the roadside, deliberately delaying before heading towards the county town.
Upon arriving at the place Old Zhou mentioned, Yang Fan saw Old Zhou, who was sitting outside, before he even parked his car.
Old Zhou also noticed Yang Fan, waving his cell phone-holding right hand from afar.
Yang Fan found a spot to park his car without causing trouble and then made his way over.
"If I had known you were treating me to a meal, I wouldn’t have eaten dinner," Yang Fan said with a smile as he sat down opposite Old Zhou.
The chilled draft beer was already on the table, beads of condensation running down the bottle.
"My mistake, my mistake," Old Zhou chuckled, then shouted to the distance, "Waitress, the dishes can be served now."
"I’ve ordered the food, the big mixed grill that’s served with a shovel," he said.
Yang Fan shook his head and said playfully, "What a pity, I just had dinner. After being full, even the finest delicacies lose their flavor."
"No worries, we’ve got beer here. A little flushing and there’ll be room," Old Zhou jested.
It wasn’t quite the time when nightlife truly begins yet, and there were only a few sporadic tables of patrons drinking outside.
The incident from last night made Yang Fan remain cautious about the street, and he casually sized up the people around. Perhaps because he had this conscious notion in mind, Yang Fan noticed quite a few suspicious characters.
The middle-aged man squatting by the roadside smoking, not even holding a cellphone, constantly scanning the passing women with a look that was slightly lewd both in appearance and in his gaze.
The white-collar in a shirt nearby, appearing to discuss business but carrying a toolbox.
And the diner sitting not far from them, whose gaze kept straying towards Zhu Shanshan’s cosmetics shop.
"Fanzi, what are you looking at?" Old Zhou asked in a low voice, somewhat puzzled.
Yang Fan chuckled, "After seeing the bad guys, everyone starts to look like one."
Understanding, Old Zhou quickly swept his gaze around and whispered, "Fanzi, I have to admit you’re the real deal. Sisi, that girl, she’s really cute, right?"
