Happy Little Farmer -
Chapter 514
Chapter 514: Chapter 514
To have is to give; Yang Fan had heard enough of this saying by now.
Every merchant who wanted to empty his wallet was indirectly promoting this motto, urging people to live it up and live in the moment.
Damn it, Yang Fan knew that playing happily felt good.
But Yang Fan dared not.
With just those few dollars in his hand, if he lived it up and lived in the moment, what would he do if he ran out of income later?
His life needed a certain resilience.
For non-essential items, he might just take another look and hesitate a bit.
But to think about emptying his wallet, sacrificing his current comfort, not even think about it.
That would absolutely not happen.
What’s given out would almost certainly not come back.
Seeing how firm Yang Fan was, Old Zhou smiled and stopped persuading him, then changed the subject, "How about this, I hardly use my car anyway, you take it for a spin."
"No, your million-dollar hunk of metal could sell me and I still couldn’t afford it, don’t tempt me," Yang Fan immediately gestured with his hands and said. In this car, he was so careful even when lighting a cigarette, how would he dare to play?
Old Zhou chuckled, "You really live too carefully, if it gets scratched or dented I wouldn’t ask you to fix it, nor make you pay, what are you afraid of?"
"Afraid it might affect our relationship," Yang Fan said.
Old Zhou fell silent, and after a long while, finally managed to say, "I really have no response to that statement."
"This is the real truth; your thing is just irresponsible urging," Yang Fan shook his head and said.
Old Zhou chuckled twice and shook his head.
The car entered an old residential area, and Old Zhou zigzagged to find a parking space and parked the car.
He took two bottles from the car and said to Yang Fan, "Come on, this old guy runs a private museum here, and he does part-time fortune telling and stuff. He lives quite a comfortable little life. It’s just a pity... heh."
"There’s obviously a story behind that transition," Yang Fan said.
Old Zhou looked around, lowered his voice, and said, "About this matter, after I tell you, don’t show anything later, or else our relationship is definitely over."
Yang Fan raised an eyebrow, "Do I look like someone who can’t keep secrets?"
"Indeed, you are steadier than even me," Old Zhou then whispered, "Anyway, according to him, it’s because of his cultivation faction. If cultivated well, it affects fertility, so in that regard, he’s very, very inadequate, bluntly speaking, he’s impotent."
"Is there really such a thing?" Yang Fan was somewhat surprised.
Old Zhou pursed his lips and clicked his tongue lightly, "Who knows? Maybe his health was not good to begin with, and he just blames what he practiced. That’s possible too. But, I tend to believe him; after all, look how openly he confessed to such a secret, there’s no need to hide the cause."
Yang Fan nodded, "That makes sense."
"However, there are exceptions, depending on whether he only tells a few close friends like you, or if he tells everyone he meets. If it’s the latter, then there’s a suspicion that he might be using it to indirectly boost his own prowess."
Old Zhou waved his hand, "No, that’s not it; no man would publicize such a thing. Besides, this guy is so picky about his fortune telling clients, uncooperative or bad-attitude people he doesn’t bother with. Every day he meets either officials or rich businessmen; I’m just lucky to have known him for longer, otherwise, I couldn’t afford to climb up to his level."
Yang Fan looked around the old neighborhood.
This place really didn’t seem like somewhere someone like that would live.
"So now you’re taking me to see him, this might not be too good, right?" Yang Fan asked.
Old Zhou laughed and said, "I was just joking. I have a good relationship with that guy. You are my brother, and so is he. If he cared about status, I would have taken him down a long time ago."
Only then did Yang Fan nod.
If it weren’t for this connection, he would have been really afraid of getting kicked out just for approaching someone with a few silver coins in hand.
With Old Zhou putting it that way, Yang Fan suddenly became intensely curious about this person.
It seemed like he was a great hidden expert living amongst ordinary people.
Upon reaching the third floor, Old Zhou stood at the doorway and rang the doorbell.
The door was decorated simply yet elegantly, with a sign for Zhi Gu Pavilion hanging above.
After the doorbell rang a few times, the door opened to reveal a delicate and graceful face.
"It’s Boss Zhou, please come in." The woman stepped aside to open the door, inviting Old Zhou inside.
Yang Fan stared for a few moments at the woman wearing a white shirt, a black professional suit with a hip-wrapped skirt, and black stockings. She probably wasn’t Old Zhou’s friend.
"His secretary," Old Zhou whispered to Yang Fan as he entered.
Yang Fan then realized and felt even more curious, noting that the man must be quite important to have a secretary.
He must be lacking in that department, to have such a pretty secretary, probably just for a pleasant view.
Once inside, Yang Fan realized that this place was a world of its own compared to the old neighborhood outside, with corridors filled with various trophies, calligraphy, and some significant photographs.
Looking at the scale, it truly was a very unusual private museum.
"This way," Old Zhou led Yang Fan to a room on the left.
It was a very large office filled with rows of display cabinets on the left, all showcasing various jadeites.
The right side was a reception area, looking like a large meeting room.
A plump, middle-aged man in a white mandarin jacket came over, holding a string of beads in his hand.
"Old Zhou, you old rascal, what made you willing to come see me?" the middle-aged man chuckled.
Old Zhou lightly laughed and said, "Here I am, willing at last. Came to have some tea with you, or maybe some drinks."
"Drink, it’s up to you. If you want tea, I’ll join you for tea and if you prefer drinks, I’ll join you for drinks. I have good tea and good drinks," the middle-aged man laughed heartily.
"No need, I brought my own drinks." Old Zhou set down the items he was carrying.
The middle-aged man glanced at them and exclaimed, "You’re really splurging this time, huh? Looks like this isn’t a casual visit to see me but there’s an issue, right? Is it about this young man?"
"Brother, what’s your honorable surname?" The middle-aged man extended his hand to Yang Fan, his gaze somewhat scrutinizing.
"Just Yang," Yang Fan briefly shook his hand and then released it.
This guy gave him a pretty bad first impression; his gaze swept over like a searchlight, seemingly seeing right through Yang Fan in an instant.
That very look even caused a reaction in the Yin Yang harmonized Inner Qi within Yang Fan’s Dantian.
Elder Liang also dabbled in fortune-telling, and his predictions seemed quite accurate, but his gaze was never this sharp.
He had looked at Yang Fan like this before, but never with the same penetrating insight.
"This brother, your destiny seems frighteningly formidable," the middle-aged man suddenly remarked.
