Chapter 513
Chapter 513: Chapter 513
The evening meal was quite sumptuous, the family gathered around the dinner table, chatting about household matters. Although no one mentioned the word "farewell," every word and gesture was imbued with the emotion of parting.
Fourth Aunt and Yang Yuan had stayed at home for so many days that everyone had become accustomed to their presence.
Especially Yang Fan.
He hadn’t even fully felt the gentleness of Fourth Aunt and Yang Yuan, exploring every possible gesture, and now it was time to say goodbye.
Regret and reluctance were certainly present.
But he managed to restrain these emotions well and didn’t show them.
After dinner, while the women lingered in the courtyard, gossiping idly, Yang Fan went to bathe early.
He was prepared to be busy until dawn tonight.
And his early preparation was not at all superfluous: upon finishing his bath, he found messages from Yang Yuan and Fourth Aunt.
A challenge.
Yang Fan thought about it and decided to schedule the appointment with Fourth Aunt first, asking Yang Yuan to wait until later in the night.
The two of them lived together, and if he didn’t handle it separately, there was a risk of things getting explosive.
...
The next day.
It was another scorching clear sky that could dehydrate anyone.
Yang Fan used a tricycle to transport an apparently weary Fourth Aunt and Yang Yuan to town to catch a bus.
Last night, he and Fourth Aunt were outside; taking advantage of when everyone was getting ready for bed, they had their turn outdoors, and in the early hours, just before dawn, Fourth Aunt had sneaked back into Yang Fan’s room for another round.
As for Yang Yuan, she had quietly made her way to Yang Fan’s room after waiting for Fourth Aunt to fall asleep, entangling in a fierce battle with him twice over.
If one were to count, in fact, it was Yang Fan who was the most exhausted last night, with almost no rest at all.
But he was in good spirits and didn’t feel tired at all; in contrast, Fourth Aunt and Yang Yuan looked drained and sleep-deprived. However, it was clear that both were satisfied, with their eyes exuding honeyed allure.
"Fanzi, are you really feeling that good?" Fourth Aunt asked in surprise.
She was obviously implying something.
Yang Fan smiled, "Young people are like that, with good physical resilience."
Yang Yuan, who was sitting in the back, suddenly leaned forward.
Her suspicious gaze made a circle around her mother and Yang Fan, "Mom, what’s wrong with Fanzi?"
"Nothing much, I was just saying that he doesn’t seem affected at all by how late he slept last night. Look at us, we all look like we haven’t woken up. You’re yawning incessantly," Fourth Aunt said.
Yang Yuan gave a light cough, "That’s right... I really haven’t woken up. I slept so late and got up so early, I definitely didn’t sleep well and feel uncomfortable."
The conversation moved on with everyone harboring their own thoughts.
The vehicle had already reached the town. Yang Fan hugged Fourth Aunt and Yang Yuan goodbye, watched them board the bus and leave, and then he returned to Bai Cao Pavilion. He loaded some of the more expensive medicinal herbs into the truck and rode the three-wheeler to the county town.
His main purpose today wasn’t to deliver goods, but to find a professional to appraise the value of those silver coins.
Old Zhou’s shop.
Zhu Shanshan’s figure was no longer visible here, nor was there anything that belonged to her.
When Yang Fan walked in, Old Zhou was lounging in a deck chair like a king, swinging his feet to the rhythm of the music playing nearby and humming along as if he was really in a pretty good mood.
"Old Zhou, you and life actually seem pretty cushy," Yang Fan laughed as he spoke.
Hearing Yang Fan’s voice, Old Zhou took off the straw hat that was covering his face and chuckled, "Exactly, don’t you think for a second that I couldn’t survive without Zhu Shanshan. That’s simply not going to happen, you get me?"
"Look at me, I’ve got money, and quite a lot of it, plus time and energy. Now, there’s nothing restraining me, which is a good thing. If I’m hungry, there’s plenty of places to eat around here. At night, when it’s time to sleep, I can pick whichever girl I want to keep me company. I can be choosy, no young and pretty girls, no please, and if the service isn’t good, it’s not acceptable. Isn’t that just delightful?"
"Alright, good to know you’re enjoying yourself, but watch your back, will you?" Yang Fan said laughingly without words.
It sounded like Old Zhou was really living it up.
That’s what being rich does for you.
Even if he slept with girls worth two to three thousand a night, with his wealth, he could probably keep it up for quite some time.
"Go away, my back is incredibly strong. I may not compare with you young folks, but among men my age, I am unquestionably top-notch, a real tough guy!" Old Zhou shouted back defiantly.
"If you don’t believe me, let’s have a go, I’ll prove it to you."
Yang Fan didn’t argue with him, "No, no, no, I know you’re awesome, no need to prove it to me."
"Are you free right now to have your friend take a look at these silver coins for me?"
"You see me napping here; you wouldn’t believe me if I said I was busy," Old Zhou said as he got up from the lounge chair. "How about we have a cup of tea first, then go have lunch together at noon? I haven’t seen that old kid in a while; it’d be great to catch up."
"Sure, whatever you say," Yang Fan responded, "I also have some herbs in the car outside that you can deal with."
"No rush, no rush, let’s have some tea first and take it easy," Old Zhou said casually, waving his hand.
Seeing how casual Old Zhou was, Yang Fan naturally went with the flow as well.
After all, he was in no hurry either.
They chatted over tea, and when it was just about time for lunch, Old Zhou leisurely checked the herbs in Yang Fan’s car. There wasn’t much, but they were all pretty valuable.
The goods, weighing less than a hundred pounds, sold for over three thousand, earning Yang Fan a tidy little profit of over three hundred.
Though he’d been seeing a lot of big money lately, Yang Fan honestly stuck to his roots. These tens and hundreds were his real life; the big money was just an ephemeral blossom in his life.
After sorting that out, Yang Fan hitched a ride with Old Zhou to go meet his somewhat disreputable friend.
That guy had recently changed cars.
He got himself a very imposing SUV. Yang Fan didn’t know how it was to drive, but riding in it was truly comfortable.
"This ride must have cost you a pretty penny, huh?" Yang Fan asked, not without envy.
He rode his tricycle just fine but was genuinely fond of such vehicles deep down.
"Not much, just around a million or so," Old Zhou chuckled, "Fanzi, let me tell you, this thing is a man’s face when he’s out and about. Now when I drive this car out, even with this mug of mine, I’ve got young ladies initiating conversations, suggesting we go out for a drive or something, you know what that means?"
"It means that your damn back is bound to give out sooner or later!" Yang Fan muttered.
Hearing Old Zhou boast, why did he feel so irritated!
Old Zhou laughed, "Don’t get snappy with me, kid. It’s not like you can’t afford one now."
"Ah, you are actually right, I can’t afford it," Yang Fan said. "It took me a lot to finally have some money on hand, and I don’t want to blow it all too quickly. I’d rather save it up a bit longer."
"You know what, your way of thinking is just damn wrong," Old Zhou shook his head, "You gotta spend money to make money!"
"I don’t buy it!" Yang Fan replied succinctly and forcefully.
