Chapter 510: Chapter 510

Hearing Yang Fan say that it was not good to talk too much, Bai Mengzhu understood and didn’t ask further.

Ye Tong poured a cup of tea for Yang Fan and handed it to him, asking with concern, "Is everything going smoothly?"

"It went smoothly, and I came back in one piece," Yang Fan replied with a smile.

"That’s good to hear, nothing else matters as long as everything went smoothly," Ye Tong said.

After a pause, she changed the topic and said, "Fourth Aunt and Xiao Yuan are leaving tomorrow. You should stop looking after the shop today and go back early to spend time with them. I’ll close up shop early too, so how does that sound?"

"So soon," Yang Fan muttered quietly to himself.

He still remembered it seemed like there were still several days left.

Ye Tong smiled teasingly, "Didn’t you get along with Xiao Yuan before, and now you can’t bear to part with her?"

"Not at all, just got used to having her around," Yang Fan chuckled dryly.

It sounded like his sister-in-law’s words had a deeper meaning.

Yang Yuan, that mischievous girl, had been too obvious, and with his sister-in-law’s keen sense, she might have noticed something.

Ye Tong looked at Yang Fan and gave a gentle, soft smile, "Take a break and go home early. Tonight, let’s have a dinner to see them off."

Yang Fan nodded.

He really didn’t dare to say too much or react too strongly.

He would just go along with whatever his sister-in-law said.

"How was business today?" Yang Fan changed the subject and asked.

"Not bad, seven or eight customers came in the morning, but I wasn’t sure about some herbs so I didn’t take them," Ye Tong said, "I’d rather miss out than make a mistake. Making a mistake would be worse than not opening the shop at all."

"When you have time, teach me a bit more so that the shop can stay open even when you’re too busy."

Yang Fan nodded, "I’ve had the same thought. After these two days pass, sister-in-law, you can spend a few days with me at the shop. The items really aren’t that complicated, and after watching for a few days, you should be able to manage everything."

"Hmm."

After drinking his tea and chatting casually with his sister-in-law and Bai Mengzhu for a while, Yang Fan rode his tricycle back home.

He hadn’t forgotten his cherished wooden mace and the rope he had exchanged for with his life.

That was, no doubt, the most expensive thing Yang Fan had ever bought in his lifetime.

Upon arriving home, Yang Fan saw someone he didn’t quite expect, Wang Daqiang.

Looking somewhat awkward, he was sitting in the main living room of Yang Fan’s house, clutching tightly to a black bag that seemed heavy, filled with unknown contents.

As soon as Wang Daqiang saw Yang Fan enter, he immediately stood up and grabbed Yang Fan’s hands tightly, continuously saying, "Fanzi, thank you, thank you so much."

Yang Fan felt a little uncomfortable being treated with such excessive respect.

"Did you come here especially?"

Wang Daqiang nodded vigorously, "For all you’ve done for my family, if I didn’t come to thank you, I wouldn’t be human. I’m not good with words, don’t know what to say, but I just had to thank you properly."

"No need to be so formal, it was just coincidence that I happened to be there," Yang Fan said with a smile, gesturing for Wang Daqiang to sit down again.

"Eh, why isn’t Little Mother here?"

Wang Daqiang sat down somewhat reservedly and said, "She just went out, along with another woman, who seems to be your aunt. They said someone bought something and went to help fetch it."

Yang Fan nodded, "How come I didn’t notice when I just got back?"

"Maybe they took a shortcut. I just heard Little Mother on the phone; it sounded like a ride brought something by the way," Wang Daqiang said.

"Never mind, if they’ve all gone, there probably wasn’t much help needed," Yang Fan sat down on one side and handed Wang Daqiang a cigarette, "Have you settled everything at home now?"

Wang Daqiang rested his hands on his knees, his expression somewhat dejected, and nodded, "It’s all sorted out. I’m planning to sell off the household items these next few days and leave the village."

"You’re leaving?" Yang Fan asked, surprised.

"Yeah, my mom passed away, my wife got arrested, and there’s nothing left here for me," Wang Daqiang’s mouth curved into a bitter smile, "But I’ll still keep the old house. Maybe one day when I want to come back, I will. Just planning to sell off anything that can be sold. It’s good timing; my mother left me a bit of something to tide over."

Yang Fan lit a cigarette. It seemed that after going through such an ordeal, Wang Daleng had actually become a bit more astute.

Now he even knew to be cautious.

"That’s good. Staying in that house mustn’t have been good for you mentally," Yang Fan remarked, "Did you find the items?"

Wang Daqiang nodded, "Just like you described."

He then lifted the heavy black bag and placed it near Yang Fan’s feet, "Let’s split it fifty-fifty. If you’re worried, you can check my half. I counted everything, not one more or less."

The bag was even bigger than those twenty-kilo rice sacks, bulging with contents.

Yang Fan looked at Wang Daqiang, surprised. The man... was still a bit naive.

If he was going to give it away, he shouldn’t have put it that way.

"This item is too valuable, I can’t take it," Yang Fan said, shaking his head.

With sincere and utmost seriousness, Wang Daqiang pleaded, "Fanzi, you’re an upright and righteous gentleman. If it weren’t for your integrity, I wouldn’t have had anything to do with this stuff. I’ve been extremely selfish to keep half of it."

"Although what you’re saying is true, I can’t accept it," Yang Fan shook his head.

"Fanzi, listen to me. I’m not good with words, and I really don’t know how to express myself, but this little is not enough to convey my gratitude to you," Wang Daqiang said earnestly.

"It’s not just about the money you brought, but also the vengeance for my mother and pulling me out of that pit of fire. You’re my life-saver. If you ever need anything, just say the word, even if it means committing murder or arson for you, I’ll do it!"

Yang Fan waved his hand with a smile, "Let’s not be so dramatic. I wouldn’t dare get involved in murder or arson."

"Fanzi, you must take this. If you don’t, I’ll kneel down and beg you to accept it," Wang Daqiang said with sincerity.

"No, no, no," Yang Fan quickly said, "If you do that, then you’re not here to show gratitude, but to seek revenge."

"Then just take it!" Wang Daqiang insisted.

Yang Fan patted the hefty Lump Of Silver, "You know you’re giving away ’ten thousands’ of worth with this gesture."

"These are just to express a fraction of my intention; it doesn’t matter to me how much they’re worth. Without your upright generosity, I wouldn’t even be aware of a single ’thing’," Wang Daqiang said, "Fanzi, the kindness you’ve shown me can’t be measured with money."

"I’m afraid you’ll regret it," Yang Fan joked with a smile.

Wang Daqiang’s expression turned stern, and he said with some urgency, "Fanzi, that would mean you really underestimate me, Wang Daqiang. I may be a bit foolish, but I would never be ungrateful or betray kindness. I would never do such a thing."

"Have you asked anyone how much this stuff is worth?" Yang Fan then asked.

Wang Daqiang shook his head.
