Chapter 469: Chapter 469

Granny Wang’s words left Yang Fan in a stunned silence for a long time, unable to respond.

He had actually stumbled upon a murder case.

And under such circumstances...

Granny Wang’s eldest daughter-in-law, Kou Miao, was also quite familiar to Yang Fan.

This woman had remarried into the Wang Family, bringing two children with her when she entered the door.

Both Granny Wang and Wang Daqiang had always treated those two children as if they were their own, but Kou Miao seemed discontented and lazy; she did no work around the house and didn’t even know where their own land was located.

Every year, during the planting and harvest seasons, it was Wang Daqiang who rushed back from the county town to do the work, then returned to continue his job.

Yang Fan had heard, it seemed that even the cooking was still done by Granny Wang to this day, with Kou Miao not lifting a finger to help.

To Granny Wang and Wang Daqiang themselves, perhaps they felt that it wasn’t easy to find a wife at their age, so they indulged her in everything, doing what they could and asking nothing of Kou Miao.

But Yang Fan had never imagined that this woman, lazy and ungrateful enough, could actually commit such a heinous act; she was no longer human!

Dammit, the mother-in-law was practically spoon-feeding her, her own mother wouldn’t have done this much for her, and yet she had the audacity to poison for the sake of an affair, she was worse than a beast.

Anger turned Yang Fan’s face a shade of purple.

"Granny Wang, rest in peace, I will make sure this matter is handled properly. Neither Kou Miao nor Shen Zhongwei will get away with this; I’ll see to it that they face the full force of the law!" said Yang Fan in a stern voice.

"I’m not talking about that," Granny Wang said with a smile, shaking her head, "this matter still needs to be discussed with Da Qiang. I mean for you to tell him about this matter, as for what to do, let’s leave it to him."

"If he feels that his mother’s death was unfair and he wants justice, then report it to the police and arrest Kou Miao and Shen Zhongwei. But if he still wants to live with Kou Miao, let it pass if it can."

"I’m seventy-six this year, it’s about time for me to go. Little Fanzi, Granny isn’t afraid of dying, look at me, I’m dead and I can still talk to you. Maybe, in that place, I can live another lifetime, hehe."

Yang Fan’s nose suddenly felt sore.

This woman, who had spent her life toiling for her children, was still worried about her son’s happiness even at this point.

If Wang Daqiang had even a shred of conscience, he shouldn’t be able to continue living with Kou Miao with such a heavy heart, after all, a woman isn’t a necessity in life.

"Granny Wang, I will handle it properly for you," Yang Fan declared firmly. "However, I’m worried your son won’t believe what I say. Do you know of any evidence? Even an autopsy... um, that is, to examine your body afterwards, Da Qiang has to believe it to proceed. If he doesn’t believe it, I’m afraid I won’t be able to intervene."

Talking about a corpse in front of Granny Wang made Yang Fan feel oddly uncomfortable.

Granny Wang smiled kindly and nodded, "I’ve thought about that. I know what my son is like; stubborn as a mule. You tell him first, and if he believes you, that’s great. If he doesn’t, then tell him to dig about a little more than a fathom deep in the old kiln in the old house, and he’ll find a jar of silver coins."

"This matter, only I know about it; the three brothers are all in the dark. I also don’t know exactly how much that thing is worth; it should be enough to subsidize some expenses. Originally, I was planning to find an opportunity to feel out Lao Er and Lao San and see if they’d be willing to help Da Qiang. If they were, they’d split the silver coins evenly. If not, all of it would go to Da Qiang, and they couldn’t blame me for being an unfair mother."

"Now, the things haven’t gone according to my plan, so it all goes to Da Qiang. That child... has a tough life. Not only is he unlucky, but he also married such a wife. The future... it’s likely going to be even harder."

Yang Fan listened carefully, and when Granny Wang stopped and looked over, he nodded and said, "Granny Wang, I’ll do as you’ve instructed. You trust me a bit too much, telling me directly about such important matters. Those things are quite valuable."

Granny Wang chuckled, "You, lad, I know you’re honest and wouldn’t do anything unseemly."

"Actually, since I’m asking for your help, it would only be right to share some of the benefits with you, give you some of those silver coins. But I can’t make such a statement; a dead person cannot make decisions and doesn’t hold credibility."

"Once those things are dug up, they’ll surely belong to Da Qiang. Whether you ask for them in my name or take some in advance, if Da Qiang is unhappy about it, it could ruin your reputation after a fuss."

Yang Fan smiled and nodded.

In fact, his words were thick with self-interest, but he could understand.

"Fanzi, even though he’s my son, I can’t assure that he won’t become as greedy as his wife when faced with unexpected wealth. If I leave you to dig up those silver coins, and Da Qiang comes to believe there’s more, pestering you for it every day, I would undoubtedly be doing you a disservice," Granny Wang said gently.

"Human greed is something uncontrollable; even the kindest person can be overcome by envy. Believe me, what you gain intangibly will surely be better than those silver coins, even though it’s just a hunch I have."

Yang Fan agreed wholeheartedly with her words.

Upon reflection, it really was the case...

Although the old lady was looking out for her own interests, her considerations were not wrong.

"It’s fine, you don’t need to explain this to me anymore. I agreed to help you without expecting anything in return. If you keep talking like this, it makes it seem like I’m up to no good," Yang Fan said with a smile.

"Granny Wang, is there any way I could sneak into your house? I need to find a way to leave behind evidence like the bowls you ate from and the chicken bones, to prevent Kou Miao and the others from denying it later."

"The door is open; Shen Zhongwei was right beside me when I died," Granny Wang replied. "Let me help you out. If the door’s locked, I can unlock it for you. I think I still have some time before they come to fetch me, or I can wait until then."

"Granny Wang, are you allowed to talk about these things?" Yang Fan asked curiously.

Granny Wang smiled warmly, "Little Fanzi, don’t be so curious about these matters. Knowing too early isn’t good. Once you master this skill, sooner or later, you’ll understand everything. Maybe we’ll even meet again in another place!"

"So, Granny Wang, did you automatically become aware of all these things after your death?" Yang Fan asked.

He was genuinely curious.

"That’s right. When I thought I had woken up and got out of bed, those memories suddenly appeared. They told me when and where to go, what I shouldn’t do, and what the consequences would be. It was all very clear," Granny Wang said with a beaming smile.
