Chapter 449
Chapter 449: Chapter 449
After greeting Little Mother and his sister-in-law and soothing them, Yang Fan hurriedly rushed with Liang Laoshi to the county town, heading straight for Delong Wanshu Sichuan Restaurant.
The restaurant was bustling, packed to the brim, with people even lining up on stools at the entrance.
Yang Fan had been here many times, but this was the first time he had seen it so explosively busy.
He squeezed through the crowd and asked the front desk attendant, "Is your boss around?"
"Oh, it’s Mr. Yang. Our boss went to see her best friend, you probably know her, the one right across, Boss Zhu," the young attendant said with a grin as soon as she saw Yang Fan.
However, there seemed to be something else in her gaze, her smile somewhat meaningful.
Yang Fan didn’t pay attention to her strange reaction and thanked her before leaving the restaurant.
Ever since the last time he and Fan Sisi had had a three-hundred round battle upstairs, the looks he got from the young waitstaff had been a bit off.
Back by the tricycle, Yang Fan took out his phone and video called Fan Sisi.
It rang a few times before the call was answered, "You bad guy, trying to mess with me again?"
Fan Sisi’s voice was very low, sounding timid as if she were whispering secrets.
"Where are you? I need to see you," Yang Fan said.
Today, he really was not in the mood for love and romance; he just wanted to quickly resolve the trouble afflicting Wei Juan.
"I’m at your sister-in-law Zhu’s place. She just got divorced, not feeling great, so I came to keep her company. Wait a bit for me, I’ll be back soon," Fan Sisi said.
"No, it’s a matter of life and death, I really can’t wait any longer today," Yang Fan said.
Fan Sisi playfully rolled her eyes, a bit shy, and retorted, "Are you that desperate today? Can’t even wait a bit longer?"
"It’s not that, I really have urgent business, it’s very urgent, I can’t explain it all in a moment," Yang Fan explained, "I need to meet your grandfather, can you help me with that?"
"Meet my grandfather?" Fan Sisi paused for a moment, her lips puckering slightly with a hint of resentment, "You heartless bad guy, I thought you wanted to spar with me again. To see my grandfather, I’ll give you a location, you go find him yourself. He often plays chess in the park; you’ll recognize him by his thin eyebrows and long beard."
"Sister, if it’s not something extraordinarily important, please help me out. It’s a matter of life and death, I’m not joking," Yang Fan said earnestly.
Taking Yang Fan’s words to heart, Fan Sisi’s expression grew serious, "Then you better head to the park now, the one closest to my shop. I’ll be there soon."
"Okay!"
Yang Fan quickly agreed and, after hanging up the phone, promptly headed to the park with Liang Laoshi.
Xin’an County had many parks, none of which had names.
Locals usually referred to these parks by nearby landmarks, like the Water Conservancy Bureau Park, Kindergarten No. 2 Park, and so forth.
It took Yang Fan less than ten minutes to arrive at the site where he looked around, trying to spot an old man with thin eyebrows and a long beard, but unfortunately, he couldn’t find him.
About ten or so minutes later, Fan Sisi’s video call came through.
"Fanzi, we’re at the bus stop here, hurry over," she said.
After confirming the location of the bus stop with his phone, Yang Fan walked over with Liang Laoshi.
From a distance, he spotted the old man with thin eyebrows and long beard, dressed in Taichi attire, exuding a somewhat mystical aura, playing chess with Fan Sisi. Not only her, but Zhu Shanshan was also there.
The old man was stretching his neck watching some other old men play chess, appearing as if he had always been there.
That place, although indeed next to the park, was not exactly close to it.
If Yang Fan were to look for it himself, it would probably take a while.
"Fanzi, what’s this life-or-death matter that requires my grandfather?" Fan Sisi asked Yang Fan as soon as she saw him.
She was as charming as ever today.
Her blue sleeveless cheongsam displayed a smooth, fair luster at the front.
The curves of her figure were perfectly outlined by the cheongsam, elegant yet sexy.
Standing next to Zhu Shanshan, one looked like an elegant ancient lady and the other like a modern independent queen.
Yang Fan greeted everyone first before he said, "This matter is a long story, I’ll explain it to you later."
"What, you’re making it all mysterious?" Fan Sisi muttered a bit displeased.
"My grandfather is right here, so you two can talk first."
Mr. Fan sized up Yang Fan and then fixed his gaze on the wooden mace in Yang’s hand, "Are you the young man who sold me the Thunderstruck Wood?"
Yang Fan nodded, "I also owe it to the Elder’s gift this time."
"You used it so soon?" Mr. Fan’s expression suddenly became more serious.
Yang Fan nodded and said with a bitter smile, "I was actually hoping I’d never have to use it."
"This thing, kept at home can ward off evil spirits; that was also my purpose for giving it to you. I didn’t want you to use it so soon either. But luckily, having used it, it must have had some effect," Mr. Fan explained.
"Let’s go ahead and talk."
Yang Fan nodded.
The three of them moved forward, but Fan Sisi immediately caught up by pulling Zhu Shanshan’s arm.
Mr. Fan turned and glanced back, "We’re going ahead to talk because we didn’t want you to hear, don’t you understand?"
"But I’m curious!" Fan Sisi muttered, "You all are making it so secretive, I want to know what it’s about."
"Curb your curiosity. Don’t pry into things that you shouldn’t," Mr. Fan said sternly.
Fan Sisi huffed in displeasure and reluctantly stopped with Zhu Shanshan.
"All secretive, neither Fanzi nor my grandfather is talking, what could it be about?"
Zhu Shanshan earnestly said, "I rarely see Fanzi look so urgent; don’t cause trouble. Maybe it really is some urgent matter. Once it’s over, Fanzi will surely tell us, let’s just wait here."
Fan Sisi pouted, "Look at you, all considerate, huh, divorced young widow."
"Shut your mouth!" Zhu Shanshan rolled her eyes unhappily, "I don’t know if you’re here to comfort me or to deliberately annoy me, how could I have a friend like you."
Fan Sisi giggled, her gaze drifting towards Yang Fan and the two others, about ten steps away from them.
"Elder, we encountered a very difficult situation," Yang Fan repeated to Mr. Fan what Liang Laoshi had previously said about Wei Juan, and then asked, "Elder, what should be done in this situation?"
Mr. Fan looked at Liang Laoshi, "What color were the girl’s eyes when you saw her? Was there any double-pupil occurrence?"
He immediately recognized that this situation was noticed by Liang Laoshi, not Yang Fan.
