Chapter 443
Chapter 443: Chapter 443
Upon hearing about the ghost encounter, Zhou Wenhu’s first reaction was not to ask how Ye Tong and Wei Juan were but to express a series of astonished interrogations with a look of amazement on her face, "You saw it? What did that thing look like? Like a person? Was it floating?"
"Little Mother, aren’t you going to ask if we’re okay?" Ye Tong said exasperatedly.
Zhou Wenhu scrutinized Ye Tong and Wei Juan, "There’s nothing wrong, at most you were just a bit scared."
Ye Tong, Wei Juan: ...
"Little Mother, you’re really careless." Yang Fan said, shaking his head in slight disapproval.
"That thing, I didn’t see it clearly; it seemed like a woman."
"You saw it too?" Zhou Wenhu asked.
Yang Fan shook his head, "My sister-in-law saw it."
"Right, I saw it." Ye Tong then reiterated what Yang Fan had said to Zhou Wenhu.
After listening, Zhou Wenhu’s face lost its curiosity and became somewhat serious.
"From what you’re saying, it seems like something happened in that house before," Zhou Wenhu said, "Xiao Juan, didn’t you ask what had happened there?"
Wei Juan shook her head.
She had never delved into these matters.
"That’s a new building," Yang Fan said, "It was built when I was in junior high, about six or seven years ago. I’ve never heard of anything happening there before. There’s absolutely no chance of death having occurred, otherwise I would have heard something."
If something had happened at the village office near their home, Yang Fan would definitely have known.
Zhou Wenhu spat out the toothpaste in her mouth, wiped her mouth with a towel hanging on the nearby rack, and said, "What about before that?"
"If it was before that, it’s hard to say. We might need to ask the elders in the village about it; they should know," Yang Fan said.
"Alright, I’ll go ask later. You go to town and find someone named Liang Laoshi; I’ll tell you where he is in a bit," Zhou Wenhu said, "Although I’ve only heard about this person, he seems to have some real skills."
"Your sister-in-law and Xiao Juan can just rest at home. They’ve just been shaken up, no need for them to go out."
Then, Zhou Wenhu turned to Ye Tong and Wei Juan, "You two shouldn’t stay in your room today. Spend some time in the sun outside, or go up the mountain for a walk, just don’t go into the woods."
"Little Mother, what’s the use of doing that?" Ye Tong asked.
Zhou Wenhu smiled, "Nothing special really, don’t get the wrong idea, just something to make you feel more secure."
"Oh..." Ye Tong chuckled, "I actually thought it might have some special effect."
"I’m not a fortune teller; how could I know about these things? The sun is strong, soak in more of it, and those fears lingering in your mind will fade," Zhou Wenhu said.
"Then I’ll go find that Liang Laoshi now," Yang Fan said.
"It’s Liang Laoshi, I don’t know his real name, but that’s his nickname," Zhou Wenhu corrected, "He’s not any kind of teacher, so don’t burst in calling him ’Liang Teacher’. If he misunderstands, he might chase you out with a couple of strikes."
Yang Fan chuckled, "Little Mother, good thing you reminded me, or I definitely would have called him that, so I’ll head out now."
This matter gave him a sense of urgency, a very pressing hope to resolve it quickly.
He was constantly worried that the entity might follow them home.
"Hold on." Zhou Wenhu suddenly called out, "Didn’t someone give you a piece of Thunderstruck Wood as a little trinket? Take it with you!"
"What use is that thing?" Yang Fan asked, puzzled.
"Thunderstruck Wood is usually used as a Magic Artifact, take it just in case it’s useful! If there’s nothing else at home for your protection, then that’s it. It’s not superfluous to take it," Zhou Wenhu said.
Yang Fan also thought, that thing seemed pretty intimidating; no, ghost-intimidating.
He nodded, headed back to the room, grabbed the wooden mace Fan Sisi had given him, and rode his tricycle to the town.
On his phone, Little Mother had already sent the address.
This Liang Laoshi lived in the old streets, which were relatively remote.
Xin’an Town had developed rapidly over the past few years. Yang Fan wasn’t quite sure of its exact size, but it was roughly twenty to thirty times the size of the old town, and would give some county towns a run for their money.
Following the address from Little Mother, Yang Fan took several turns and twists on his tricycle and arrived at the old street.
The area still retained the brick and tile house layout and was shaped like a "T".
The ancient walls still faintly displayed old signs and slogans, filled with the style of the last era.
This place was originally marked for demolition and reconstruction, eyed by a real estate company many years ago. The town had long ago marked off the area for them. However, the old residents here haggled hard, changing their asking price daily. Eventually, the real estate company gave up and simply opened up a new area beside the old streets.
The ambition of these old residents was too great, and now they are suffering the consequences.
Over the years, it seemed like the town had intentionally forgotten this old quarter.
No water was provided, no roads were fixed; it remained mostly as it was originally.
Yang Fan, holding his phone, circled around the old street and finally found the sign pasted with yellow paper on the door.
It was definitely the most rudimentary sign Yang Fan had ever seen and also the cheapest.
A piece of yellow paper, about twice as wide as a couplet, was written on with red ink, indicating fortune telling, Feng Shui, and other services.
"This must be the place."
Yang Fan put away his phone, and carrying the wooden mace wrapped in a black bag, entered the little shop.
Saying it was a shop, it was really more like where Liang Laoshi lived.
Beyond the bed, there were some very old-fashioned pieces of furniture and a double sofa.
When Yang Fan entered, the middle-aged man with a large mole on his left cheek was holding his reading glasses in one hand as he read an almanac. Even though the glasses were on his nose, he was still suspending them in the air with his hand.
Just as Yang Fan was about to speak, the man took off his glasses and looked right at him, "Hiss..."
That sound made Yang Fan swallow back the words he was about to say.
Classic fortune-teller opening—face reading.
Yang Fan stayed silent, just staring back at Liang Laoshi, curious to see what he could make out.
Liang Laoshi looked for a while, then suddenly laughed: "I haven’t seen someone with such good luck with women before. It’s a bit exaggerated, your case. The last one should have been Liu Yong."
"The lyricist?" Yang Fan asked in surprise.
Seemed like there might be something to it.
"I’m just saying, Liu Yong’s charm might not even match yours, yours is practically overflowing," Liang Laoshi said, shaking his head and chuckling, "You’re here for me because... wait, wait, this feels... um..."
Liang Laoshi scrutinized him once more.
This assertive statement made Yang Fan respect him more and he silently waited for him to reach a conclusion.
"Were you out at night? Or maybe, you visited some unusual places?" Liang Laoshi’s brows slowly furrowed.
