Chapter 423
Chapter 423: Chapter 423
Old Zhou’s words left Yang Fan’s mind completely blank for quite a while.
Based on his own experience, even when completely obsessed, he definitely would have considered the actual situation at that time.
Ignoring all dangers and focusing solely on that one thing was not just obsession, it was more like losing all rationality.
In Yang Fan’s impression, even though Old Zhou had always been indifferent towards both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, he at least had some sense of proportion.
After all, a person who can grow his business to such a size surely doesn’t have a simple mind.
Yang Fan didn’t quite believe what he said.
Facing the rolling river, he exhaled a long puff of smoke and turned his head to ask Old Zhou, "Old Zhou, give it to me straight, you didn’t do it on purpose, did you?"
Old Zhou chuckled, "Fanzi, can you not think so negatively?"
"I just don’t want to oversimplify you," Yang Fan said.
Old Zhou pursed his lips and suddenly snickered, "Let me tell you, all men in the world can become addicted to something, no, to be precise, everyone can become addicted to something."
"Some people don’t smoke, don’t drink, don’t look for women, and don’t gamble, but most of these people tend to become addicted to gaming. They spend a fortune on these things, much like many women who have a collecting craze. They simply can’t walk past a bag they like, even though they already have a pile at home."
"Addiction is the root of our obsession. Aside from money, I’m not much interested in anything else. I’m casual about smoking; I don’t mind doing without for a few days. But if a young woman casts me a flirtatious glance, I certainly can’t control myself."
"Besides, it’s not the first or second time this has happened. Last time, if it weren’t for your help, I’d have been dead meat," he added.
Yang Fan’s doubts were precisely because of the incident with Wu Xuelan.
That affair had opened up a new world for him, showing him wider vistas and more vibrant colors. It had also made his once monotonous life suddenly full of color and excitement, and he found himself deeply engrossed and unable to extricate himself.
But Old Zhou, with his mind, how could he fall for the same thing twice at the same time?
This is about a person whose grasp of market timing is so precise he could almost use a stopwatch.
When he was obsessed, would he really toss aside his rationality?
"Forget it, I won’t probe whether it was deliberate or accidental. Anyway, what’s done is done, and talking about it is useless now," Yang Fan shook his head, sighing. "How are you and your sister-in-law resolving it now?"
"Divorce," Old Zhou said with ease. "Do you want to celebrate me returning to singlehood in middle age? I’ll treat you tonight; let’s have a blast at Han Palace. My sister-in-law left me with some leeway; she took away eighty percent of the savings, but the shop and the estate are still mine, enough for me to live on."
Yang Fan looked at Old Zhou seriously, and increasingly suspected that the guy had done it on purpose.
He appeared far too relaxed, just like someone who had finally gained his freedom.
"Old Zhou, not to mention anything else, I just feel like you’ve been kind of shady," Yang Fan said somberly.
The whole situation left a weird taste in his mouth.
Although...
Both Old Zhou and Zhu Shanshan, the parties involved, seemed very relaxed about it.
Old Zhou was already planning to have a good time with him and Zhao Wu, while Zhu Shanshan was also making plans about their future dealings.
This is just ridiculous!
Their marriage was already dead in name and in reality, although arriving at this point seemed somewhat expected.
But when Yang Fan actually saw this outcome, he didn’t think of it as a wonderful result.
Old Zhou glanced at Yang Fan, whose expression was changing like the weather, and suddenly let out a chuckle, "Fanzi, why are you getting all sentimental like it’s the end of spring? It’s not a big deal, your sister-in-law is pretty open-minded about it. If you don’t believe me, go see her when you have time. She’s definitely fine, and she might even be thinking about having you set her up with someone else."
"The two of us, we haven’t been on the same path for a long time, just too lazy to get divorced. She knows what I’m doing outside, and I know what she thinks of me. This outcome is a decent end, I guess."
Yang Fan looked at Old Zhou, "Aren’t you afraid I’ll end up with your sister-in-law?"
Old Zhou chuckled again, "If you two really hit it off, I sincerely wish you the best, but I don’t think there’s much hope. You’ve got good luck with the ladies; I doubt your sister-in-law Lao Niu would go for some fresh grass."
"What you just said, you’re really asking for a beating!" Yang Fan shook his head and muttered under his breath.
To be honest, Old Zhou really was a bit heartless in handling this matter.
Old Zhou’s smile faded as he said, "People still need to face their age, I just spoke a bit crudely."
"Save it, stop wasting brain cells worrying about me and your sister-in-law. You should learn from Fifth Brother, who never meddles in extra matters, surely he has no worries most of the time."
Zhao Wu took a leisurely drag of his cigarette, staring deeply at the river before him, "No, I just haven’t spoken up, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t thought about it. Hearing what you’ve just said, I’ve realized the world of you wealthy folks is really complex."
"But I just imagined, if I were rich, I’d probably go after different women, the more the better, and I’d likely never be able to commit wholeheartedly to just one."
"So, whether it’s intentional or not, I can still understand you. But I don’t approve of your behavior."
Old Zhou was taken aback.
He looked around at Zhao Wu and Yang Fan, waved his hand and said, "Alright, enough, let’s stop talking about this. Let’s discuss my earlier suggestion. I’m treating, opportunities like this are rare."
"What is Han Palace?" Zhao Wu asked.
Old Zhou grinned sleazily, "A place where you’ll be so happy, you’ll forget to go home."
"If it’s not on my dime, I’d like to check it out," Zhao Wu said.
"Then let’s go, go, go. To live life just once, being carefree and enjoying oneself should be considered a life’s great affair!" Old Zhou grabbed Yang Fan’s arm and dragged him to his feet.
"Hold on!" Yang Fan exclaimed.
"What now? Neither of us felt there was an issue, so why are you the one who can’t get over this hurdle? Aye, you’re going to worry me to death!" Old Zhou said exasperatedly.
Yang Fan chuckled lightly, "Didn’t you forget something? Do you still want the matsutake and the Black spirit ginseng? With such high temperatures, I bet the ice packs have melted already. If we leave them overnight, they’ll all go bad for sure."
Old Zhou slapped his smooth forehead, "Ah, how could I forget about that! Let’s go, go, go. We’ve got to store these treasures first, then we can go have fun, celebrating that I’m back to being single and free as the wind!"
Yang Fan just shook his head, speechless.
What else could he say?
He could only offer his congratulations!
