Happy Little Farmer -
Chapter 266
Chapter 266: Chapter 266
"What’s this about former and current partners? We are partners now!" Old Zhou squeezed his eyes at Yang Fan and gave a rather exaggerated laugh, "Let’s cut the ribbon for good luck and to wish us a soaring profit and a grand future."
Yang Fan, speechless, stared at Old Zhou, "Why don’t you just cut me instead?"
He had just opened a tiny, shabby store, and now a ribbon cutting? It was purely a joke!
"Alright, since you don’t want that, how about we give an opening speech instead? Just say a few words," Old Zhou suggested.
Yang Fan’s face darkened again.
He gazed solemnly at Old Zhou, "Uncle, why don’t you go inside and cool off? You’re making me nervous. Look at my store; does it look like it deserves a speech of that caliber? It seems you’re really bored and looking for a way to embarrass me to death."
This uncle was definitely doing this on purpose.
He was just taking this chance to tease Yang Fan.
Old Zhou burst into laughter, "Okay, okay, if you don’t want to do that, then..."
"Stop, just stop! Go inside and have some tea, will you? Little Mother spent a fortune setting up a tea table for me, help me bless it and moisten your throat, because right now your bad ideas can’t keep pace."
"Hold on a second. Little Mother’s figure is quite imposing, huh? They say stepmoms and stepsons are either enemies or lovers, which stage are you two at? Is it the latter?" Old Zhou asked slyly, a gleam of witty gossip in his eyes.
Yang Fan took a deep breath.
It was the first time he found this uncle annoying.
So damn annoying!
"It’s fine if you joke about me, but let me tell you, my Little Mother is indeed imposing, she really likes chopping people’s heads with an axe. There was someone in our village who learned that the hard way and now they all steer clear of her; if they can’t avoid her, they bow first and then run."
Old Zhou suddenly looked alarmed, "Your Little Mother... is that imposing?"
"No kidding, if you’re brave enough, you can see for yourself," Yang Fan said, giving Old Zhou a meaningful look.
Old Zhou shrank his neck, "Maybe not, I actually don’t like prying into other people’s private matters, I’ll go have tea."
The uncle finally went inside.
Yang Fan felt a huge weight lifted off his shoulders.
Weirdly enough, he had just experienced what it felt like to deal with a mischievous kid, despite dealing with a grown man.
People gradually started arriving.
Most of them were villagers, and among the crowd, Yang Fan spotted Gao Lanlan and Yu Guafu.
Among a bunch of plainly dressed women, these two stood out like cranes among chickens.
Giving opening gifts was a local custom here.
The gifts weren’t expensive, just sentimental tokens from everyone.
Opening a business was quite a significant event, and basically, everyone who knew would come to partake in the feast.
It was regarded as Important as a child’s full-month celebration in the community.
And like some people who borrow a three thousand yuan used car and host two tables, that’s considered controversial.
Some would go to partake in the feast, while others wouldn’t attend and would secretly scorn the event.
Yang’s family was modest, and those who came were just a few relatives and familiar folks from the village.
Ye Tong had reserved five tables at a restaurant, and with a tight squeeze, it was just about enough.
At the dinner, Yang Fan pulled Fu Xuebing beside him to sandwich Old Zhou in the middle, urging him to drink relentlessly.
Old Zhou had made fun of him that morning, so now it was his turn to retaliate.
Yang Fan planned to have the uncle leave horizontally.
As for the others, with Little Mother and his sister-in-law hosting, Yang Fan didn’t have much else to worry about.
"Fanzi, I suddenly realized you must have come prepared!"
When the three of them had almost finished a bottle of wine, Old Zhou suddenly came up with a realization.
Yang Fan nodded, "Of course I came prepared. If there’s free time today, let’s go all out and drink!"
"Alright, I like the sound of that, let’s do it!" Old Zhou shouted loudly, "Bottoms up!"
Yang Fan’s plan had been quite good.
Unfortunately, he overestimated his own and Fu Xuebing’s abilities and underestimated Old Zhou’s capacity for alcohol.
By the second bottle, the roles had reversed.
Fanzi and Fu Xuebing, who had been encouraging others to drink, became the ones being urged to drink. Old Zhou, alone, was fired up, waving his arms vigorously and loudly, almost turning the whole restaurant into his own battleground.
Fortunately, by then, most of the people had left, and the restaurant’s owner let Yang Fan and his two friends have free rein.
"What are you doing, huh? Feeding the fish? Drink!"
"Playing with cards smaller than a turtle’s, yet you dare to flaunt yourself? Drink!"
"Drink!"
With Old Zhou’s commanding yells sounding like military orders, Yang Fan could hardly see what cards he held anymore.
The situation had grown stronger than the man, and now he wanted to run.
"You guys keep drinking; I’m going to the bathroom."
Yang Fan staggered to his feet.
"Hold on!"
Old Zhou suddenly yelled out, burped a long burp, and said, "Let’s go, the three of us together!"
Yang Fan: ...
Is there really no trust between people anymore?
Old Zhou, holding onto Yang Fan and Fu Xuebing on either side, his breath reeking of alcohol, chuckled ominously, "You two little rabbits, don’t you know I’m an old hand at this? Did you think I’ve been drinking for twenty years for nothing? I’ve seen every trick in the book. Thinking of sneaking off to pee? No way, let’s go!"
Fu Xuebing’s mouth twitched as he cast a desperate glance at Yang Fan, sharing the misery he felt.
But actually, Yang Fan was in more pain!
Fu Xuebing was still somewhat sober, but Yang Fan’s consciousness kept telling him he was about to pass out.
This was a major misstep!
Held in Old Zhou’s grasp, the three of them went to the bathroom together, then returned downstairs where Old Zhou, looking refreshed, told the owner, "Boss, give these two lads something for sobering up, and bring another bottle of wine and two spicy plates of crayfish for us."
The owner, who had been busy with accounts, suddenly beamed at the request and loud, manly conveyed it to the kitchen.
Perhaps influenced by Old Zhou’s loud voice, the somewhat effeminate owner shouted with a robust, dominant male voice, reaching the peak of his nasal and throat tones.
Yang Fan continued to rack his brains for a way to escape.
But faced with Old Zhou, a veteran of the drinking scene, he, a newcomer, was definitely outmatched.
In the following events, whether he tried to change the topic to raising fish or sneakily tried some tricks under the table, Old Zhou caught him red-handed each time. Not only did he fail to slack off, but he also ended up drinking punitive shots, doubling his intake.
In such a lively atmosphere, unsurprisingly, Yang Fan ended up... very drunk!
So drunk he was completely gone.
His consciousness jumped straight from the drinking scene to the next morning, with no recollection of what had happened in between.
It was a complete blackout!
