Chapter 143: Chapter 143: The Invitation of the Young Woman

Yang Fan knew that before Old Zhou had quoted the price, he had definitely already factored in the previously mentioned ten percent increase.

This guy was pretty shrewd.

However, his quote was considered quite standard in the market behind, and could not go much higher. Hence, Yang Fan did not say much more.

The business relationship between him and Old Zhou had always been about occasionally helping out and occasionally playing little tricks on each other, mostly staying within the bounds of decency, which was just about fine.

After the simple process of delivering goods and collecting money, Old Zhou suggested taking Yang Fan and Yu Hong Dou out for lunch, expressing his gratitude as the landlord and openly trying to build a relationship with Yu Hong Dou, his major customer.

Just as they were discussing where to eat, Wu Xuelan suddenly came over from the side.

"Fanzi, are you going back to the village this afternoon?" Her eyes sparkled subtly as she asked softly.

Ever since Yang Fan had substituted for Old Zhou and visited Wu Xuelan last time, he had not seen her again.

This woman, I don’t know if it’s because she has come into some fortune recently or what, but her style of clothing had grown much bolder—a pink backless sundress adorned with flowers.

Although it looked good, such attire seemed somewhat out of place for picking goods.

"Probably by evening; I still have to go to another village this afternoon," Yang Fan thought for a moment, then said.

"That’s fine. Can you give me a ride back when you go?" asked Wu Xuelan.

Yang Fan nodded, "No problem, just give me a call then."

"Okay," Wu Xuelan smiled lightly and nodded.

Yu Hong Dou’s gaze moved over Wu Xuelan and then she quietly moved closer to Yang Fan, hooking his arm, but said nothing more.

This action immediately set off an alarm in Yang Fan’s mind.

Previously, when Yu Hong Dou talked about dating him, Yang Fan intentionally kept quiet.

Because he really did not know how to respond.

When you have none, you really have none; but when they do come, they all come at once, making Yang Fan somewhat confused.

He had no idea what Yu Hong Dou would think once she knew about the sister-in-law and Wei Juan.

But now it seemed he could only keep dating three at the same time and let things take their course.

After leaving the warehouse, Old Zhou closed his shop and drove Yang Fan and Yu Hong Dou for a grand meal.

Eating was just eating, but this guy was really good at buttering people up.

He made no pretense and spoke very directly to Yu Hong Dou about the value and market for Taicang Mountain Tea Bricks, essentially saying that if you have the goods, now was the time to sell, and he would definitely offer the highest price.

But unfortunately, no matter how cunning his plans were, with Yang Fan by his side, those plans could hardly survive.

The meal ended with the two of them bickering.

The meal was quite enjoyable, but Old Zhou was probably not very pleased.

The meal cost him hundreds, and because of Yang Fan’s interference, he saw no results.

After the meal, Yu Hong Dou rushed off to the hospital, while Yang Fan took a short nap at Old Zhou’s, before again riding his motor tricycle and resuming his afternoon trips through the alleys.

That was just a typical day for a peddler.

However, compared to those street vendors who hawk their wares door to door, Yang Fan, who collected mountain goods, had it relatively easy, and his income was likely a bit higher.

In the course of one afternoon, Yang Fan made two trips to the county town.

The progress of collecting goods today even gave Yang Fan the illusion of being somewhat inflated.

If the profits were like this every day, he could even consider buying a car for collecting goods.

His net profit for the day could match the income of nearly half a month in normal times.

But unfortunately, that was just an illusion.

Because he had been traveling far for some time, he hadn’t seen some of his regular customers for a while.

These were accumulations, and it wasn’t to say that he could make this much every day.

After turning over the goods to Old Zhou, Yang Fan, with two thousand eight hundred in pure profit in his pocket, left the market in high spirits.

Today was truly a day of feasting on meat.

It wasn’t until he was almost out of the city that Yang Fan suddenly remembered that he seemed to have promised Wu Xuelan a ride.

Shaking his head, lamenting his overly joyful forgetfulness, Yang Fan turned around, while calling Wu Xuelan, and headed back to the Herb Market.

Wearing a backless long dress, Wu Xuelan was holding a small bag, waiting at the entrance of the market.

From a distance, her tall figure and fashionable attire entirely belied that of a city office worker, not at all resembling a woman who picked and sorted herbs.

"Did you forget about me?" Wu Xuelan asked with a smile, flicking her hair tousled by the wind.

Yang Fan said resignedly, "I got too busy today, I was almost out of the city before I remembered. Let’s go."

Wu Xuelan, lifting her dress, got into Yang Fan’s car.

Yang Fan glanced at the slight glimpse of her fair skin on the edge of her dress and laughed, "Your dress today doesn’t seem quite suitable for my beat-up little car."

"Then what kind of car should I be in?" Wu Xuelan asked with a smile, tossing her hair by her temple.

Yang Fan turned the three-wheeler around and merged into the busy traffic, glancing at the rearview mirror, then laughed, "Let’s not worry about what kind of car it should be for now, at least it should have four wheels."

"Now that you mention it, I suddenly feel like I bought the right outfit, even matching up to four wheels," Wu Xuelan chuckled, "No matter what clothes I wear or what I do, I think I should first make myself happy. If this outfit makes me happy, then I’ll wear it."

Yang Fan nodded, "That’s a pretty good attitude."

"Good nothing, I’m just laughing through life’s lows, knowing I can’t climb out of this pit, I might as well find a way to make myself happy, happily lying in it, one day at a time," Wu Xuelan spread her arms, feeling the wind on her face, her face radiant with a gentle smile.

Actually, her life circumstances were quite comfortable compared to most people; she didn’t worry about food or drink, and although she wasn’t extremely rich, she didn’t fret over money either.

But every household has its own set of problems, and Wu Xuelan saying this must have had her reasons.

But her attitude was indeed admirable.

To find a way to make oneself happy amid chaos is quite a feat.

"Come have dinner at my place later," Wu Xuelan suddenly said, "I haven’t had the chance to thank you for last time yet."

Yang Fan laughed, "That incident, it seems like I was the one who benefited, wasn’t it?"

"But you also solved a problem for me. Otherwise, I could have become really famous," Wu Xuelan leaned closer to Yang Fan, whispering with a soft smile, "If that had escalated, my reputation would definitely have soared past Gao Lanlan and Xiao Yu, becoming one of the top three in our village."
