Chapter 600: They cannot Stay

Chapter 600: They cannot Stay

Luo Huian was unaware of this little exchange. She was currently looking at the gloom aura that was rising and falling. She was certain that she had controlled the gloom aura of the four mers, which left her with the question. From where was this gloom aura coming? She pursed her lips and then followed the dark fumes.

She looked around and found that they were coming from the trunk of the car.

Luo Huian: “…”

Don’t tell her that this car was depressed as well? This world really had it hard; even vehicles were falling for this propaganda.

She had hardly finished having that thought when there was a thump, and Luo Huian jumped back. Now she was eyeing the car as if it were some weird monster. Her eyes flickered as she looked at the thing in front of her with a cautious look.

“What is this?” she asked Xiao Hei. “Since when did cars start to act up like this?”

Xiao Hei looked at the car and then turned to look at Xiao Bai before saying to Luo Huian, “Maybe it’s a mechanical fault? You should call a mechanic.”

No sooner had he finished speaking than the car spoke in a childish voice, “Umm…where are we?”

This time around, not only Luo Huian but even Xiao Hei was stunned. The two of them took several steps back as Xiao Hei cried out, “Oh dear heavens. I thought it was just an animation, but the cars here really are sentient. Which one is this one? Bumblebee bee or something?”

“Maybe it’s Optimus Prime?”

“Why him?”

“I don’t know. I just think that he is the strongest, and since I am the strongest in this world, we are a match. A perfect match. Don’t you think?”

Xiao Bai: “…”

The female snake rolled her eyes and then said, “There is someone inside the trunk, you idiots. Open the trunk and see who it is.”

Only then did the two of them turn silent and turn to look at the trunk with a similar frown on their faces. Someone was inside the trunk?

“It must be that mother of mine,” remarked Luo Huian as she marched over the trunk. Ye Shun was getting tired of Luo Yeqing trying to get close to him, which was why the poor old mer had come with them, even though he knew that it was quite rude to interfere in a trip that was just for his daughter and sons-in-law; he had no choice if he wanted some peace and quiet from his wife.

However, just as Luo Huian raised the trunk’s lid, she was stunned. Because inside the trunk, it wasn’t Luo Yeqing but —

Nian Zhi and Nian Wu knelt in front of Luo Huian, who was sitting on the couch inside the farmhouse with a frown on her face. Though she had nothing against these kids, they had caused rather big trouble for her by running away from the hospital. If Ye Jinglan found out that the kids were with her, he would try his best to blackmail her. Not that she would let him, but still.

It was going to be problematic.

“Now”, Luo Huian began slowly, and the two children huddled even closer to one another. “Who can tell me what is going on here?

The two children flinched as if Luo Huian had called them a bad name, causing Qi Yongrui to turn and look at her with a hint of reproach in his eyes. He said to her, “Don’t be like that. They are kids, Huian. Be patient with them.”

“Where did you see me getting impatient?” Luo Huian asked with a tick in her jaw. “I just asked them a single question, Yongrui.”

Qi Yongrui was a bit surprised when he saw Luo Huian taking his name so smoothly, but he still suppressed the giddiness that washed over him and said to Luo Huian, “You need to smile more when you are talking with kids. They are just kids, and they are scared, Huian. They must have a reason for running from Ye Jinglan.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the two kids started to nod their heads like chickens pecking rice. Seeing this, Luo Huian narrowed her eyes at the two kids, who lowered their heads at once. Though she would have loved to grill these two naughty kids, Luo Huian couldn’t do that. Not with Qi Yongrui looking at her as if he would jump at her the moment she lost her temper.

Annoyed but already used to the tempers of the mers, she said to the two kids with a much softer voice, “Why did you run away from the hospital? Do you not care about your injury? Doesn’t it hurt?”

“It does,” replied Nian Zhi. It hurt so much that she wanted to pass out, but she had no choice but to grit her teeth and sneak close to the Qi corporation. It was a good thing that she paid attention to the name of the nice mer uncle the last time he helped her. If not, she would have definitely lost her way in the city.

“Then why take such a risk?” Ye Shun spoke as he helped the two kids up from the ground and shot a fierce look at his daughter.

Luo Huian innocently blinked her eyes and said in an aggrieved voice, “I didn’t do anything. It was them who knelt in front of me.”

Ye Shun rolled his eyes and then helped the children up from the floor. He asked Uncle Feng to bring a first aid kit and then turned to look at the little girl, “You could have stayed behind and let your injuries heal a bit more.”

“We can’t.” Realising that these people were nice and kind enough to believe their words, Nian Zhi told Ye Shun and the rest the truth. “If we stayed behind, then that mer would have killed us.” She looked down at the wound on her arm and stated, “This was done by him.”

A horrifying silence stretched throughout the entire living room, and the two kids immediately lowered their heads as if realising that they might have said something wrong. Nian Zhi clenched her fists as she closed her eyes and prepared herself for the usual scolding of how she was a liar and always lied to ruin the reputation of her stepfather, just because she couldn’t accept him as her father.

“And why didn’t you tell this to any responsible adult?” Luo Huian asked.

“Would someone believe us?” Nian Zhi smiled mockingly. “Ye Jinglan told everyone that we dislike him and that we are used to lying. Who will believe the words of children when an adult keeps making up stories to make us look like thieves and liars?”

Nian Zhi spoke like a little adult, which made everyone look at her with a hint of heartbreak. They could not help but wonder what this poor girl had gone through for her to speak in such a mature way.

Qi Yongrui’s eyes turned red as he said to Nian Zhi in a gentle voice, “So what do you want to do now?”

Nian Zhi locked her gaze with the nice mer who had helped her. She knew it! She knew that this mer uncle would believe her. She licked her lips and then said to Qi Yongrui, “I — we want to stay in an orphanage. It’s better to stay there than live with that mer… and if that’s not possible, then you can hire us. I can cook and clean, and my brother knows how to wash clothes and feet.”

“Feet?” Fan Meilin turned and looked at the little mer who was not even three years old. “You can wash feet?”

Nian Wu nodded and let out a childish ‘yeah’, which only added more horror to the entire situation.

Luo Huian, on the other hand, glanced at the two kids and stated, “We cannot keep them.”

As soon as she finished speaking, everyone turned to look at her while the kids stiffened.

“Huian…” Qi Yongrui began, but Luo Huian turned and looked at him. “Do you even understand what will happen if we keep these children? Ye Jinglan would blame us for kidnapping the children. What will you do then?”

Qi Yongrui pursed his lips. However, when he turned to look at the two kids, he saw them horrified. Their faces were pale, and they looked really scared. Seeing them like this, he couldn’t help but purse his lips before saying, “It’s better than turning a blind eye to their plight.”

“They are scared and in danger. I cannot leave them alone—what if Ye Jinglan does something to them?”

When Nian Zhi and Nian Wu heard his words, the hope in their eyes lit up again, and they turned to look at Luo Huian. Their eyes were shining so brightly that Luo Huian was sure that she was about to turn blind.

“No—”
