"Do you think I will do anything to harm you?" Luo Huian didn’t answer the mer’s question; instead, she asked another question. She naturally could not tell the truth to Qi Yongrui because she knew that the mer would definitely judge her. Forget about judging; it would be better to say that he would grow even more fearful of her.

And honestly, Luo Huian didn’t understand why she cared about Qi Yongrui getting scared of her. In the past, she had never cared about anyone fearing her. If there were someone who was scared of her, she would have made fun of their pain.

"Even though I tried to kill you?" Luo Huian asked with a subtle frown on her face.

Qi Yongrui smiled and nodded. "That’s right. Even then, when he saw that the woman was still frowning, he added with a hint of a smile, "Love for a person cannot be explained in just a few words. Luo Huian sucked in a breath and shook her head. She looked at the street where cars were driving back and forth. Sighing, she said to Xiao Hei and Xiao Bai, "There is something that I never told you guys."

Xiao Hei and Xiao Bai looked at one another. Something about Luo Huian’s expression made them worry instinctively.

"Let’s hear it," Xiao Hei spoke with a resigned sigh. "It cannot be worse than you deciding that you want to stay in this world."

"Wei Yuxian told me that he loved me and wanted to become my cultivation partner.... Before he turned evil."

Xiao Hei: "...."

"Nonsense!" Xiao Hei exclaimed with a hint of disbelief in his eyes. He looked at Luo Huian and then turned to look at Xiao Bai. "There is no way Huian will think such a stupid thing. That man was evil. You know that. You should know that. He broke the rules of the sect at every turn. He robbed and stole things as he liked; you would be stupid to think that he is anything but evil."

"He was a boy, Xiao Hei," Xiao Bai frowned and corrected. "Boys do stupid things when they are young. Saying that he was an evil person from the start is a bit too much."

Xiao Bai rolled her eyes. She turned to look at Luo Huian and said to her, "Are you feeling sorry because of your rejection of him?"

Luo Huian didn’t say anything. She simply smiled at the little snake whose entire body turned white, or as white as it could with his scales being charcoal black. Xiao Hei’s eyes rolled back, and he flopped on the street. "Kill me... just kill me... how can you say such a thing?"

"I never said that I still love him." Luo Huian glanced at the snake, who was playing the dramatics. "I said I used to love him." She got to her feet as she pushed herself off the railing that was by the side of the street. Xiao Hei and Xiao Bai waited for Luo Huian to finish what she was saying, but when she didn’t, they didn’t think much, as they thought that she would one day let them know on her own.

However, they never thought that the day they would find out the truth, that day Luo Huian would be lying in a pool of her blood.

"Let’s go," said Luo Huian as she turned to look at the two familiars. "We need to collect as much information as we can about this mer."

Xiao Hei and Xiao Bai nodded as they disappeared into thin air, while Luo Huian turned around and headed to the building where Ye Jinglan lived with the children.

As she walked down the rundown street, she ran into a few mers who were gossiping about the incident that took place in the evening.

"Did you see her face? I am afraid that it’s completely ruined."

"Forget about the face—I am more worried about her arm. It was burnt so severely. I think that Nian Zhi might not be able to use that arm anymore."

"I think so, too."

"And I — who are you, miss?" The old mer who was discussing the accident turned silent and his voice turned simpering as he looked at Luo Huian, who was walking towards them. With her arms crossed and a pink dress adorning her lithe figure, the woman looked really beautiful.

The mers couldn’t look away even if they wanted to.

Luo Huian smiled, using the charm that she had to her use. She said to the mers, "Do any of you know where Mister Ye lives?"

"Ah, are you Mr Ye’s family?" One of the mers asked, sounding jealous as he looked at Luo Huian.

"No, I am his friend," Luo Huian smiled, knowing the effect this sentence would have on these mers. Sure enough, the second the mers heard that Luo Huian was Ye Jinglan’s friend, their expression changed.

One of them sourly asked, "Why are you here, Miss? Master Ye is not here."
