Chapter 88: Chapter 88 Eyes as Dark as Ink

Julia Land could tell that Thomas Sullivan was being very serious.

She dropped her sarcastic tone, "No, there’s no need for Miss Sullivan to apologize to me."

Chloe Sullivan was still pregnant.

Julia Land didn’t want to quarrel with a pregnant woman for the moment.

And she knew very well that even if Chloe hadn’t brought Stella Langston over, with Stella’s nature, she would have found ways to promote her.

Seeing that Julia was being serious, Thomas nodded, "Alright, then let me take you out for lunch."

Julia arranged the files and looked up, "No need, I’m having lunch with my boyfriend."

She walked out of the office carrying the files.

Thomas was taken aback for a moment.

In the private dining room of the restaurant.

James Thompson was wearing plastic gloves and peeling shrimp for Julia Land.

His cell phone buzzed and chimed repeatedly for quite a while.

The phone lay between them.

Julia glanced over unintentionally.

She saw several messages pop up, with constant buzzing and chiming.

[James, you can only keep that woman on the side.]

[Or you can take her as a mistress, I don’t mind.]

[In any case, you cannot marry her publicly.]

Julia saw the messages, and so did James.

The veins on his forehead throbbed visibly.

"Little Julia, don’t mind the words of my old man, trust me, okay?"

James took off his gloves, looking seriously at Julia.

Julia blinked and suddenly asked, "Sophia is your father’s third wife, how many wives does your father actually have?"

Put nicely, they’re called wives.

Put bluntly, they’re called mistresses.

James pushed the peeled shrimp towards Julia, urging her to eat.

"Officially, my father has three wives, the first wife is my mother, with legitimate status, the second is Leah Thompson’s mother, and the third wife is Sophia."

"My parents had a marriage of business alliance, without love. My mother passed away not long after, then my father brought in the second wife."

James decided to tell Julia the family situation, "This second wife was originally the wife of a distant cousin uncle, whose husband died early. She became a nurse to my mother when she got sick."

Julia gave him a look, and James knew what she wanted to say.

"My mother died of natural illness."

He continued, "Leah is not my father’s biological daughter; she is the daughter of that distant cousin uncle."

This was also the reason he called Noah "big nephew."

Their family ties were actually far apart.

Julia didn’t move her chopsticks; she asked, "And Sophia?"

"Sophia joined the family when I was abroad. My mother’s side, the Hart family, are rather greedy, and I’m not close with them."

James scoffed, "They couldn’t get any benefits from the Thompson Family, so they thought of a way to annoy me and to gain entry into the Thompson Family."

"At that time, Sophia had a boyfriend. Her boyfriend took money from the Hart family and left."

The room fell silent for a while.

They ended the topic there.

After finishing the meal, Julia said she wanted to walk on her own.

James bent over to get into the car, frowning.

Little Julia probably thinks that the Thompson family is too complicated.

He was feeling vaguely irritable.

As Julia walked, she came across a well-known pastry shop.

She pushed the door and walked in.

Unexpectedly, she ran into Arabella Shaw and Eliza Quarter.

"Miss Land, I didn’t expect you to still be in the mood to buy pastries."

Arabella smiled, handed the baby carriage to the nanny, and then she had a sudden realization, "Oh right, when you’re feeling down, you should eat something sweet."

Julia raised an eyebrow; Arabella’s way of speaking had never been so blatantly piercing.

Normally, Arabella would beat around the bush, playing the innocent flower.

Ever since Julia Land walked in, Eliza Quarter had been sizing her up—she had just been brought back to the country and came specially to buy a cake today.

"Arabella, some people have thick skins and know no shame."

Eliza’s tone was contemptuous; she had endured a hard time because Julia had been sent abroad.

"If my brother had known earlier that you were molested by an old man when you were so young, he would definitely find you dirty and would never marry you."

Julia gave them a light glance and turned to leave the pastry shop.

Ignoring such people was also a method.

Besides, she didn’t want to stand around and be gawked at by others.

Just as she was about to leave.

The manager of the pastry shop came over and called out to her, "Miss Land."

He was holding a beautifully wrapped box of pastries.

"Miss Land," the manager respectfully handed the box to Julia, "this is a gift of pastries Mr. Thompson ordered for you."

Julia paused for a moment, then took the pastry box and suddenly smiled.

"Thank you."

The manager spoke responsibly, "If Miss Land desires any other flavor of pastries, feel free to tell me directly."

Arabella Shaw and Eliza turned pale upon hearing "Mr. Thompson," their expressions slightly twisted.

Why was that Mr. Thompson still so concerned about Julia Land?

Arabella approached Julia and whispered, "One day, Mr. Thompson will tire of you too."

Julia originally wanted to ignore them, but Arabella confronted her once again.

She chuckled lightly, "Whether he grows tired of me, I don’t know. However, Miss Shaw, it’s quite unfortunate you have a child and yet haven’t married Director Quarter."

"Also, you were wrong about one thing. If a man gets tired of me, it won’t kill me. I’m not that desperate for men, and since you’re not dead, I’m even less inclined to die."

"Hehe."

The last "hehe" nearly caused Arabella Shaw to have a heart attack.

She left cheerily, carrying the box of pastries.

Making Arabella Shaw live uncomfortably for the rest of her life had always been Julia Land’s primary goal.

Arabella’s body stiffened slightly as she suppressed her anger.

"Arabella, don’t be angry. My brother has always wanted to marry you. I’ll call him," said Eliza sympathetically.

Arabella forced a smile, "Eliza, let’s go home and talk about it."

This was not the place to discuss such matters.

Eliza nodded.

Arabella looked down as she got into the car, her fingers trembling with anger.

She must find a way to make Mr. Thompson loathe Julia Land before anyone else does.

Arabella returned home, found an excuse that she was tired and wanted to rest, and went back to her bedroom.

She paced back and forth in the bedroom, then suddenly thought of someone who could help her.

She quickly took out another phone kept in a safe and dialed a number.

*

After Stella Langston went to the Strong Health gym to find Julia Land and brought her home, she was locked up by Victor Langston.

Victor even scolded her for creating trouble with Julia Land without saying a word.

Stella couldn’t understand. He was her own brother, yet he wasn’t protecting her but instead standing up for Julia Land!

And her father, who was planning to send her to Mr. Wang in a few days.

Just when Stella didn’t know what to do, a call from a stranger saved her.

*

Julia Land spent the afternoon busy with work.

When she finished, she looked at the exquisite pastry box on the desk and suddenly came to a realization.

When she had married into the Quarter Family, she was treated as inferior and often endured the members of Noah Quarter’s family to make him happy.

Therefore, when Mr. Thompson mentioned his family, she instinctively chose to run away.

Marrying wasn’t simply about joining a man; the complexity of the Thompson Family was higher than the Quarter’s.

But.

Julia sent James Thompson a message: "Mr. Thompson, I’m willing to try taking a step forward."

As long as James Thompson did not let her down, she was willing to take this step.

James Thompson’s eyes softened as he read Julia’s message.

His aggressive aura dissipated.

His eyes were as dark as ink.

"Find several of the best designers. Have them prepare engagement ring designs and also dress drafts."
