Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Something Strange

Mr. Thompson had arranged to have dinner with Nicholas Sullivan and Richard Sullivan, directly scheduled at the Noble Grid Hotel.

By the appointed time, Mr. Thompson and Jasper Winters headed to the private room.

"I’m sorry I’m late," Mr. Thompson said with a light smile.

"It’s us who arrived early."

Nicholas Sullivan said with a smile, he and Richard Sullivan stood up, and only after Mr. Thompson sat down did they take their seats.

Mr. Thompson wasn’t an unreasonable person.

When inviting others to discuss things over a meal, he didn’t maintain a cold demeanor.

The waiter served the dishes.

"There’s a new chef at the Noble Grid Hotel who specializes in Zhejiang cuisine. The dishes are quite good, both of you should try them,"

Mr. Thompson finished speaking.

Jasper Winters stood up to pour wine for Nicholas Sullivan and Richard Sullivan, then sat back down beside Mr. Thompson.

Seeing Mr. Thompson being so courteous tonight, Nicholas Sullivan and Richard Sullivan relaxed a bit.

It really might be about the marriage.

Nicholas Sullivan picked up his chopsticks, took a piece of drunken chicken, and tasted, "This is drunken chicken."

Mr. Thompson smiled, "Yes, it is."

Drunken chicken’s meat was tender and flavorful, the blend of alcohol and chicken aromas creating a taste to savor.

Mr. Thompson also picked up a piece of drunken chicken and ate it, nodding his head, then he said to Jasper Winters, "Have the chef prepare another drunken chicken and send it to Little Pear to try."

Jasper Winters chuckled in agreement and phoned the manager.

Nicholas Sullivan heard Mr. Thompson mention ’Little Pear’ and was curious but didn’t ask further.

Richard Sullivan said, "Little Chloe really likes the Peking duck from Noble Grid Hotel, the duck here is indeed exceptional."

Throughout the meal, they chatted about inconsequential topics.

Until after finishing the meal, Richard Sullivan still hadn’t heard Mr. Thompson mention anything about marriage.

Had they been mistaken?

Was Mr. Thompson only intending to treat them to dinner today, planning to personally visit the Sullivan Family to discuss matters another day?

Mr. Thompson ate his fill to about eighty percent, then leaned back in his chair.

His collar was slightly open.

He appeared somewhat at ease.

"The Peking duck here truly is exceptional in flavor, Jasper, have the kitchen prepare another duck to send to Little Pear."

Jasper Winters respectfully agreed.

He found it amusing that it was all about ’Little Pear.’

This was the second time Mr. Thompson had mentioned ’Little Pear.’

Nicholas Sullivan thought it over and still had no clue who Little Pear was.

"I hope both of you have enjoyed your meal tonight," Mr. Thompson stood up, "I have a meeting later on, so I’ll be leaving first."

Nicholas Sullivan and Richard Sullivan also stood up, with smiles all over their faces, "Thank you, Mr. Thompson, for your hospitality tonight, we’re also about to leave."

Mr. Thompson left the private room first, while Jasper Winters stayed to escort Nicholas Sullivan and his companion to the hotel’s main entrance.

Their car was already waiting at the door.

Nicholas Sullivan smiled at Jasper Winters, "Assistant Winters, thank you."

"You’re welcome."

Jasper Winters smiled as he helped Nicholas Sullivan and Richard Sullivan into the car.

He leaned in, looking into the car at Nicholas Sullivan and spoke in a cultured tone, "Mr. Sullivan, actually ’Little Pear’ is my BOSS’s girlfriend."

Jasper Winters kindly closed the car door for them.

At this point, Nicholas Sullivan in the car was so shocked he couldn’t utter a word.

He turned to look at the equally stunned Richard Sullivan.

After the car drove off, Richard Sullivan frowned and said, "Big brother? What did Assistant Winters just mean by that?"

Nicholas Sullivan rubbed his temples, finally grasping the purpose of Mr. Thompson’s dinner invitation.

He glared at Richard Sullivan with irritation, "It’s spelled out clearly, and you still don’t understand? Mr. Thompson has a girlfriend."

"Why don’t you call Little Chloe and ask what’s going on?"

The more Nicholas Sullivan thought about it, the more ridiculous it seemed. If Mr. Thompson had a girlfriend, why hadn’t his son given their family a heads up?

His second son and Mr. Thompson were good friends.

Before Richard Sullivan could call Chloe Sullivan, Nicholas Sullivan had already phoned Trevor Sullivan.

Trevor Sullivan was enjoying the company of a beauty when he received a call from his father.

He first pondered whether he’d done anything wrong recently.

"Dad?"

"What’s going on with you? Mr. Thompson already has a girlfriend, and you didn’t warn us? What good does the Sullivan Family’s embarrassment do for you? Little Chloe is your cousin."

Trevor Sullivan was promptly scolded.

He waved for the beauty standing beside him to leave first.

"What girlfriend?" Trevor Sullivan recalled the hot search he had seen on Weibo earlier, "Are you talking about Julia Land?"

Actually, Trevor Sullivan’s thoughts were pretty much in line with Thomas Sullivan’s.

If Chloe Sullivan didn’t object, it would be odd for them to interfere so aggressively.

"Who is Julia Land?" Nicholas Sullivan asked, finding the name somewhat familiar.

"Noah Quarter’s ex-wife."

Once Trevor Sullivan mentioned this, Nicholas Sullivan remembered.

He was somewhat surprised, "Why would Mr. Thompson be interested in a woman who has been divorced?"

Trevor Sullivan couldn’t answer that question; he guessed they just clicked.

Nicholas Sullivan ended the call, instructing Richard Sullivan to immediately inquire with Chloe about the situation.

They needed clarity on the matter; otherwise, the Sullivan Family’s reputation would take a significant hit.

Richard Sullivan nodded and called Chloe.

He informed Chloe about James Thompson inviting them for dinner and Jasper Winters telling them that ’Little Pear’ was James Thompson’s girlfriend.

Chloe set down her milk glass, fingers unconsciously stroking the cup, "Dad, he does have a girlfriend, Noah Quarter’s ex-wife, Julia Land."

Richard Sullivan frowned, "What about you?"

Chloe explained, "I’m sorry, Dad, he doesn’t like me, and I didn’t dare tell you all."

Richard Sullivan’s voice shot up instantly, "If he doesn’t like you, why would he give you the Blue Heart Diamond as a birthday gift?"

"And he allowed you to move into Green Auspice Villa, is he just playing around?"

"Does he really think our Sullivan Family is so easy to bully?"

Seeing Richard Sullivan getting angrier by the second, Nicholas Sullivan reached out, "Give me the phone, stop talking nonsense."

With a surge of anger in his chest, Richard Sullivan handed the phone to Nicholas Sullivan.

"Chloe, tell your uncle, what’s the real story with you and Mr. Thompson?"

Nicholas Sullivan’s stern voice transmitted from the other end of the phone.

Chloe bit her red lip, "Uncle, Julia Land has been divorced, and the Thompson Family would never accept her into their household."

Nicholas Sullivan roughly understood what Chloe meant.

"As long as you know what you’re doing, that’s fine, don’t anger Mr. Thompson, you are the Sullivan Family’s precious daughter."

As her uncle, that was all the advice he could offer.

The rest was up to her parents.

"I understand, Uncle, thank you."

Chloe hung up the phone, feeling anxious all over.

Initially, when she asked James Thompson for the Blue Heart Diamond as a birthday gift, she used the excuse that Madeline had once mentioned wanting to give it to her.

She wanted to buy it as a keepsake.

And as for the Green Auspice Villa, she loved the various precious flowers planted in the garden and enjoyed painting them.

She mentioned she wanted to stay there for a few days.

James Thompson gave her the villa, and he himself moved out that very day.

He had also told her recently, if anything comes up, to go to Assistant Winters, not to him, because his woman would get jealous.

Moreover, the purpose of inviting her father and uncle to dinner tonight was to clarify their relationship.

Chloe cried, laying her head on the table.

She thought that with Madeline gone, she might have had a chance with him.

Why did a woman named Julia Land appear?

At the masquerade ball years ago, she had invited James Thompson, but never expected to find Madeline beneath the mask.

**

At that moment.

In a small park near the Sincere Heart Community Building.

James Thompson sat on a bench with Julia Land.

He told her about Madeline’s feelings for Chloe Sullivan.

"Madeline really liked Chloe, and the night she agreed to be with him, he had me out drinking all night."

"Four months ago, he took my place on a business trip to New Addition, and his plane crashed."

Julia Land looked at James Thompson, understanding the grief of losing a close friend.

She thought of Chloe Sullivan.

Something felt a bit off?

"Will you keep looking after Chloe?" Julia Land found it strange and posed the question.

James Thompson raised an eyebrow, "If anything happens, she can go to Assistant Winters, and her family has servants."

Julia Land, "...."

James Thompson took the opportunity to tease Julia’s cheek, saying nonchalantly, "Chloe is carrying Madeline’s child, and she has chosen to keep it."
