Chapter 92: waking up the third day
Gon didn’t think for a second that Milo was above sabotaging an opponent the night before a fight.
The guy was cunning, always looking for an edge, and Gon wouldn’t put it past him to try something sneaky.
Milo might have claimed he wasn’t here to fight, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t here for something else.
A mind game, a distraction, anything to throw Gon off before tomorrow.
Gon took a slow breath, forcing himself to stay calm.
If Milo wanted to mess with his head, he wouldn’t let him. He’d stay sharp, stay focused.
Gon didn’t ease his stance right away.
His heart was still racing, though whether from the sudden tension or the lingering effects of Dina, he wasn’t sure.
Speaking of, a wave of unease crept over him.
He had been so caught up in the moment with Dina that he hadn’t even questioned the apple she had given him.
He had taken it, bitten into it without hesitation, without even asking where she had gotten it or what might have been in it.
That was careless.
For all he knew, she could have poisoned him.
The sweetness of her voice, the warmth of her touch, it had been enough to lower his defenses, to make him forget who he was and what was at stake. That was a mistake.
Gon clenched his jaw, his stomach twisting slightly, though he couldn’t tell if it was paranoia or something worse.
He didn’t feel any different, no dizziness, no weakness, but that didn’t mean he hadn’t been reckless.
It was unwise to let his guard down so easily around her. Around anyone.
But as he thought about it, he knew If the moment were to repeat itself, if Dina were to stand in front of him again, her pretty eyes watching him, a playful smirk on her lips, he would have done the same thing.
He would have taken the apple. He would have eaten it without hesitation.
It wasn’t just about the fruit. It was about her.
And that realization was far more dangerous than the idea of poison itself.
"Earth to Gon," Milo’s voice cut through his thoughts, followed by the sharp snap of his fingers.
Gon blinked, momentarily startled. He hadn’t even realized how deep he had sunk into his own mind.
"You’re that enchanted by her?" Milo asked, his tone surprisingly neutral. There was no mockery, no challenge, just pure curiosity.
That only annoyed Gon more.
His muscles tensed, and a flare of irritation shot through him.
He wasn’t sure if it was because Milo had seen right through him or because he didn’t like how easily the question made him think about Dina again.
"It’s not your business anyway!" Gon snapped, his voice sharper than he intended. "Why are you so interested in my issues?!"
Milo didn’t react right away. He just tilted his head slightly, studying Gon like he was trying to piece together a puzzle.
Milo raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, his smirk fading just a little.
"Okay, dude, was just asking," he said casually, as if Gon’s reaction didn’t faze him.
"Well, don’t," Gon snapped, his frustration boiling over.
"I just came to let you know," Milo said as he turned to leave, his voice carrying an easy confidence, "I hope they pair us in the finals."
Gon narrowed his eyes, watching him go.
Milo glanced back over his shoulder, his smirk widening. "I can’t wait to wipe the floor with you."
Gon’s fingers twitched at his sides, the fire inside him reigniting instantly, as he scoffed, crossing his arms. "In your dreams, Milo. I’ll beat you once again."
Milo didn’t stop walking, but Gon caught the slight curve of his lips, a small smile.
He didn’t look back, didn’t throw another taunt. He just kept moving.
Gon watched him disappear into the night, his jaw tightening.

Gon lay in bed later that night, staring up at the ceiling, but sleep refused to come.
His mind was restless, tangled with thoughts of the tournament, Milo, and, despite his best efforts, Dina.
But none of that mattered right now. What mattered was leveling up.
He needed 140 more points. And before the kingdom stage of the tournament, he had to level up. There was no way around it.
That meant one thing.
He needed seven more women.
But the clock was ticking, and he didn’t have time to waste.
Gon exhaled sharply, rubbing his face with both hands. He wasn’t gaining XP as fast as he would have liked, but it wasn’t like he had a choice.
The tournament had its own pace, and he had to work within it.
The next match was in just a few hours, and he couldn’t afford to push himself the way he had the previous day.
If he went in exhausted or distracted, he’d be an easy target.
No. He had to be smart about this.
For now, the only thing he could do was rest—even if sleep refused to come.
Lying back down, he stared at the ceiling, forcing his body to relax.
Gon sighed, turning onto his side, but it didn’t help.
His body was restless, his mind racing. No matter how much he tried to clear his thoughts, they kept circling back to the same things.
As he lay there, another thought crossed his mind.
If he could get one of the girls to come to him and ride him quickly, he could earn another 20 points.
That would bring him down to just 120 more. It wasn’t much, but it was progress.
The idea was tempting.
But even that could add to his exhaustion, even if just a little.
And with the next match only hours away, he couldn’t afford to take that risk.
No.
With a frustrated sigh, Gon shut his eyes firmly.
And eventually, exhaustion caught up to him, and he drifted off into a deep, dream-filled sleep.

The next morning, Gon woke up to the soft glow of dawn creeping through his window.
The sky was getting brighter, signaling the start of a new day.
Rising from the bed, he made his way to the bathroom, letting the cool water from his bath refresh him.
The chill against his skin helped clear his mind, washing away the heaviness of the night before.
Once he was done, he dried off quickly and got dressed, his movements sharp and efficient.
Gon then sat by the window, resting his arms on the sill as he gazed outside.
