Chapter 75: Gon gets his hug

Celia returned to his side with a small glass vial in her hand, the faint clink of it meeting the bedside table breaking the silence.

The liquid inside shimmered under the dim light, its color a deep amber, thick and syrupy as it settled.

She barely spared Gon a glance as she placed it down, her movements precise, efficient.

"There," she said, her. "Drink that. It’ll help."

Gon cracked an eye open just enough to peek at her.

She had crossed her arms again, standing with a practiced air of patience, but he could tell she was watching him closely, waiting for him to open his mouth and let the content in.

Gon hesitated for a moment, watching Celia carefully as she busied herself at the desk.

His heart was still beating a little faster than usual, and he could imagine the bitterness of the medicine on his tongue, but a thought crept into his mind, one that made him wonder if he could still turn this situation in his favor.

She had bought his act earlier, at least for a little while. Maybe, just maybe, he could push his luck a little further.

Taking a slow breath, he let his shoulders relax, willing himself to appear as calm and natural as possible.

He shifted slightly, adjusting his posture to look more at ease, and then lifted his gaze to meet hers.

"I don’t think I need drugs," he said, his voice soft but steady.

Celia, who had been waiting for Gon to open, gave a confused expression.

Her fingers held the vial mid-air, and for a moment, she didn’t say anything.

Then, slowly, she found her words.

Her expression was unreadable, her eyes searching his face for any hint of deception.

The flickering light in the room cast soft shadows across her features, making it even harder to tell what she was thinking.

"You don’t think you need drugs?" she repeated, her tone carefully neutral.

Gon nodded, keeping his expression as sincere as possible. "Yeah," he said, shifting again, this time with more confidence.

Celia frowned and turned to him, arms crossing over her chest as she studied him carefully.

Her sharp gaze searched his face, looking for any sign that he was simply trying to get out of taking the medicine.

"Why do you say so?" she asked, her voice laced with suspicion.

Gon hesitated for only a second before straightening his shoulders, trying to appear as honest and confident as possible.

"Because I know myself," he said firmly. "This isn’t the first time my body has acted weak. I just need to be comforted, and everything will be fine."

Celia blinked at him, her expression unreadable at first.

She tilted her head slightly, as if she was turning his words over in her mind, trying to decide whether or not to believe him.

The room was silent for a moment, the soft flickering of the lamp casting long shadows along the walls.

"Comforted?" she repeated slowly, her tone thoughtful.

Gon nodded quickly. "Yeah," he continued.

"Yes, like a comfort hug," Gon said, his voice quiet but firm, as if the idea made perfect sense.

Celia blinked at him, momentarily caught off guard. "Oh," she replied simply.

She remained still, standing beside the bed with the vial still loosely held in her fingers.

Her gaze flickered toward him, then to the small container of medicine, and back again.

A hug?

She had heard of people feeling better when comforted, but the idea of healing from a hug instead of medicine seemed a little absurd.

It wasn’t as if a simple embrace could magically fix his exhaustion or chase away the lingering weakness in his limbs. And yet...

She glanced at Gon again.

He truly believed what he was saying, or at least, he wanted her to believe it.

Celia pursed her lips, tapping her fingers lightly against the glass of the vial.

It was a ridiculous request.

Completely illogical.

And yet, a small part of her hesitated.

What if, just for a moment, she set aside logic?

Would it really hurt to try?

Gon studied her expressions...

She was considering it.

For a brief moment, he almost smirked in victory, but he forced himself to stay composed, keeping his expression neutral.

Celia sighed, shaking her head as if she couldn’t believe what she was about to do.

Then, with quiet reluctance, she moved toward the bed and sat beside him, the mattress dipping slightly beneath her weight.

"Okay," she said, crossing her arms for a moment before finally relenting. "I’ll give you a hug, but no funny business."

Gon nodded so quickly it was almost comical, his eyes lighting up with unmistakable eagerness.

"Of course! No funny business!" he repeated, though the sheer excitement in his voice made his promise seem questionable.

Celia eyed him warily, her lips pressing into a thin line.

His enthusiasm was almost suspicious.

His shoulders had lost their previous slump, and there was a certain brightness in his gaze that made her wonder if he was really as weak as he claimed.

Still, she had already agreed.

With a soft sigh of resignation, she opened her arms and leaned in.

The moment she did, Gon nearly melted into her embrace.

His arms wrapped around her like he had been waiting for this exact moment, and if Celia hadn’t known better, she would have sworn she felt the tiniest shudder of contentment ripple through him.

She hesitated for a second, then let out a quiet breath and allowed herself to settle into the hug.

As Celia leaned in, her arms wrapping around him, Gon felt the warmth of her embrace surround him completely.

Her soft body pressed gently against his, and for a moment, he forgot about everything else, the lingering soreness in his muscles, the exhaustion weighing down his limbs, even the remnants of the fight that had left him in this state

A quiet, contented sigh escaped his lips.

The warmth of her touch seeped into him, soothing in a way that no medicine ever could.

The steady rise and fall of her breath against him, the faint scent of something sweet and familiar, everything about the moment felt perfect.
