Chapter 65: Reno vs Misty
Chapter 65: Reno vs Misty
The next match was between Reno and Misty
The bell rang, and the arena fell into a charged silence.
Reno stood at his spot, eyes narrowed but otherwise unshaken.
He was slim (every time he took a step, it seemed like the wind was about to blow him away), and he had dirty brown hair.
The pink bandana tied around his neck fluttered slightly in the breeze, his slim sword drawn and ready, his stance relaxed, almost lazy—but anyone who knew the rumors about him knew better.
The speed he possessed wasn’t something anyone could easily react to.
Across from him, Misty stood with her eyes burning with intensity.
She had a body that would be expected of a guy not a girl.
Her blonde hair bounced around her neck in loose curls.
Her stance was fluid, like the wind itself, always moving, never static.
The air around her seemed to shift, swirling ever so slightly.
A confident smirk played on her lips as she met Reno’s cold gaze.
She wasn’t impressed by him.
"You look quiet, but I can tell you’ve got something special," Misty said, twirling her fingers through the air, as if drawing energy from the wind. "I’ll make sure to push you to your limit."
Reno didn’t reply. His only response was the smallest movement of his sword, a slow, controlled swing to test its balance.
His expression didn’t change, and his eyes never left Misty.
Without warning, Misty struck.
The wind whipped around her as she surged forward, her hands raised high as if commanding the air itself.
With a snap of her fingers, a gust of wind surged toward Reno, sharp as a blade, cutting through the space between them.
But Reno was faster.
His body blurred with the speed of his movements, ducking and weaving as the gust whooshed past him.
He was already behind Misty in the blink of an eye, his sword out, slashing at her back.
But Misty wasn’t unprepared.
The moment she sensed the shift in the air, she spun, raising her arms just in time to catch his attack with a gust of wind, redirecting it to the side.
She retaliated instantly, sending another whirlwind toward him, more forceful this time, catching him off guard.
Reno dodged, but the force of the wind grazed his side, a sharp sting reminding him of how relentless Misty could be.
"Nice try," Misty called out, her voice breathless but filled with determination. "But I’m not going down that easy!"
Reno remained silent. He was already back in position, sword held steady, ready to react.
His eyes tracked Misty’s every movement, every shift in the wind, every twitch of her fingers.
She wasn’t giving him an easy fight.
The wind howled around them, the arena itself seeming to bow to Misty’s will as she summoned gusts and whirlwinds to pressure Reno from all sides.
She was everywhere at once, too fast for him to keep up, her attacks coming from every angle, the air thick with swirling force.
Yet Reno didn’t back down. He moved like lightning, his blade flashing with each precise strike.
He was faster than the wind itself, always just ahead of Misty’s next blow, his focus unshakable.
He didn’t speak, didn’t give an inch, but his determination was palpable.
For a moment, Misty faltered, her breath coming in short, labored gasps.
The relentless barrage of wind and speed was draining her energy faster than she wanted to admit.
She threw herself into another powerful gust, aiming to overwhelm him completely, but Reno anticipated it.
In a blur of motion, he darted around her, and with a swift, graceful strike, he nicked her side.
Misty gritted her teeth and spun, wind swirling around her like a shield, but Reno was already there, his speed too much for her to handle.
She staggered back, her strength waning as the battle wore on.
She had to push harder, keep up the fight, but the more she moved, the more her energy drained.
She wasn’t ready to give up. The wind still answered her call, still fierce and unyielding, but it wasn’t enough to shake Reno.
With each passing moment, he chipped away at her defenses, his blade carving through the air with precision, his movements calm and unrelenting.
In a final, desperate attempt, Misty thrust her hands forward, summoning all the wind she could muster into a massive vortex, intent on consuming Reno in a cyclone of force.
The wind screamed in a violent roar as she pushed everything into the attack, but Reno’s figure was already a blur of motion.
Just before the winds could close around her, Reno darted through the eye of the storm, his speed making him untouchable.
He appeared behind her in the blink of an eye, and with a final, flawless strike, his sword found its mark, a clean cut across her shoulder.
Misty’s eyes widened as the pain shot through her, the wind dying down to nothingness as her control slipped.
She staggered back, fighting to keep her balance, but it was no use. She knew the fight was over.
She fell to one knee, breathing heavily, sweat trickling down her face, the fight having drained her every bit as much as her powers.
The wind around her stopped, a quiet calm settling in the arena.
Reno stood silently, his sword lowered but ready, watching her with an unreadable expression.
She didnt need to yield, it was obvious that he had won.
Still the formalities had to be observed.
So she mummured. "I surrender."
The crowd erupted into cheers, some in admiration of Misty’s tenacity, others impressed by Reno’s speed and precision.
Reno gave no acknowledgment of the applause—he simply turned and walked away, his eyes focused ahead, as always quiet, stoic, and resolute.

Gon watched the entire thing with his eyes wide open in shock.
He hadn’t known it was possible for a person to be that fast, Reno had been impossible to see at times, that was how fast he was.
He gripped his sword tighter. It was seeming less likely that he would win this tournament to him.
But then his gaze fell on the Duke watching the matches with thin lips.
"What am I saying?!" He snapped at himself. "No match is impossible to win. If I already give up before the match starts, then there’s no reason to enter the ring".
He swallowed. "No, I will fight as hard as I can, and I will win, for my father and for myself."
