Chapter 56: I can’t be with only you and Elsa

As soon as they entered the room and the door clicked shut behind them, Gon turned sharply, his eyes locked onto the other person with an intensity that made the air feel heavier.

"We have to talk about this," he said, his voice steady but carrying a weight that couldn’t be ignored. "About us."

"Us?" Ana asked, her voice quiet but filled with uncertainty. She lifted her head, her eyes searching Gon’s face for clarity.

The word lingered between them, echoing slightly in the stillness of the room.

Her brows furrowed slightly as she studied him.

Gon swallowed, his jaw tightening for a brief moment before he nodded. "Yeah. Us," he repeated, his voice firmer this time.

His eyes, unwavering, held hers, refusing to let her look away. "I need to make somethings clear".

He didn’t go to the bed. Instead, he walked past it, his steps slow but deliberate, and made his way to the desk.

The wooden surface was bare except for a few scattered papers and a small lamp that cast a dim, warm glow across the room. Without a word, he sat on the edge, one foot planted firmly on the floor while the other dangled slightly.

"You know I care about you, Ana?" Gon asked, his voice quieter now, but there was no hesitation in his words. His dark eyes stayed fixed on hers, watching, waiting.

Ana felt her breath catch for a moment. A warmth spread through her chest, but at the same time, uncertainty crept in, making her stomach twist.

She nodded sheepishly, unable to find her voice right away.

Her fingers curled slightly at her sides, and she glanced down for a moment before looking back at him.

"Despite my care for you," he continued, his voice calm but firm, "I have to be with other women. I can’t stay with only you and Elsa.."

Ana forced herself to swallow, her lips parting slightly as if to speak, but no words came out.

Finally, she let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. "Oh, b...but why?" she stammered softly, the words carrying a weight of confusion, and disappointment.

Gon sighed, running a hand through his hair as if searching for the right words.

His expression softened slightly, but his resolve didn’t waver. "I can’t tell you why exactly," he admitted, his voice steady. "But i have to be with as many women as possible, so it is not an option for me."

Gon pushed himself off the desk and walked over to the bed, the mattress dipping slightly as he sat down.

He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, his hands loosely clasped together. His dark eyes never left Ana’s face.

"But I can promise you," he said, his voice softer now, as if trying to reassure her, "out of all the women I talk to, you’re my favorite one."

That, of course, was a lie. Gon didn’t have a favorite among any of the girls he talked to.

Because the truth was, Gon didn’t play favorites. He never had.

Then why are you so interested in Dina?

The question came from nowhere, slipping into his mind like an unwanted guest. A voice he couldn’t ignore.

Gon’s jaw tightened, and he shook his head, as if physically trying to push the thought away.

Now wasn’t the time for this. He was here, talking to Ana, handling this situation. He didn’t need distractions—not from his own thoughts, not from anyone else.

But still, the question lingered.

Dina.

His mind was fixated on Dina simply because she was new in his life, an unfamiliar presence that stirred his curiosity.

She was different, not in any grand, life-altering way, but in the simple fact that he hadn’t fully figured her out yet. And that was enough to make her stand out—for now.

Gon had always been this way. People intrigued him when they were still a mystery, when their thoughts, reactions, and desires were unreadable.

It wasn’t love, or even deep attachment—it was just how his mind worked.

He liked knowing people, understanding them, seeing what made them tick.

But once he understood Dina—once he had pieced together the way she thought, the way she responded, the way she fit into his life—she would be like any other woman to him.

Another name, another presence, another person who had once held his attention but no longer consumed his thoughts.

It was inevitable.

"It wasn’t favoritism at all," he told his mind firmly, as if repeating it to himself would make it true.

He leaned back against the bed, eyes closing for a moment to shut out the noise of his thoughts.

The rational part of him knew that. Dina was just a passing curiosity—nothing more. His feelings toward her weren’t special; they were just new.

But the more he tried to convince himself, the less certain he became. Why, then, did he keep thinking about her? Why did the thought of getting to know her better linger in his mind like an itch he couldn’t scratch?

"Focus," he muttered under his breath, as though the simple act of telling himself that could pull him from the distraction.

His mind wasn’t doing him any favors.

"Really? I’m your favorite?" Ana asked, her voice light with a mixture of surprise and something softer, almost hopeful.

Her face perked up, and for a moment, her eyes shimmered with a spark that had been missing since their conversation began.

"Yes," he replied. He reached out, gently cupping her chin with his hand, his thumb brushing over her skin. The touch was soft, almost tender, a quiet reassurance in the midst of everything they had just said.

Ana looked up at him, her lips parting slightly as if she was processing his words, her breath shallow for a brief moment.

"Okay," Ana said, her voice steady, though there was a quiet tension in her words. She met his gaze without hesitation, her eyes softening as she seemed to process everything. "I understand. Lord Gon wants to be with other girls, and I don’t mind... as long as I get to be with you."

Gon smiled, a rare, genuine smile that softened the sharp edges of the conversation. "Good," he said, his voice lighter now. "Now stop being sad and come kiss me."

Ana blinked, surprised by the sudden shift in his tone.

She hesitated for a split second, but only a split second.

Then, with a soft nod, she scooted closer to him, her movements slow but purposeful.

Her breath caught in her throat as she closed the gap, her gaze flicking between his eyes and his lips, the anticipation building.

When she finally reached him, with a soft, almost nervous smile, she leaned in, her breath mingling with his, and as their lips touched.
