Chapter 100: Planet Mebowei

They moved quietly through the halls until they arrived at their destination, one of the training rooms within the ship’s accommodation block.
Neither of them had neglected their aura training during the trip, and they weren’t the only ones.
Several of the other recruits also took the opportunity to train during their free hours, wanting to sharpen their skills even a little before reaching Area One.
Not all the recruits were particularly friendly; some kept entirely to themselves.
But among those willing to interact, Xaren and Ilya often sparred with them, using the matches as opportunities to refine their techniques and test out their improving skills.
Today, Xaren and Ilya moved through their usual aura control exercises, after which they proceeded to do some light sparring.
After several rounds, Xaren left the sparring groups to the far end of the area where he started running tests on his experimental gravity detection technique, the same one he’d been working on since before they left Zorix.
The idea was to develop the ability to perceive the specific points where gravity acted on entities, whether they were living beings or inanimate objects. Xaren also aimed to distinguish between the two, and he was using the constantly moving people in the training hall, along with the equipment they were working with, to help train this skill.
Just as he was about to activate the technique, an announcement echoed through the speakers overhead.
[All Area One Recruits, report to the Main Bridge with all your belongings within 30 minutes.]
For a moment after the sound of the announcement, everyone in the hall froze where they stood.
Then, as if on cue, the recruits began gathering their stuff.
Xaren sighed and retracted the energy he’d been spreading out, tossing his towel over his shoulder as he headed out with the rest.
After a fast but thorough shower, he changed into one of his army uniforms, then, after packing all his belongings into his pouch and tucking it into the inner part of his uniform as he usually did, he made his way toward the bridge, where a checkpoint awaited them just before the main entry doors.
Here, the ship’s crew collected the phones that had been temporarily issued to the recruits.
This all but confirmed that they had arrived at Area One, or at the very least, the planet it was situated on.
Stepping into the bridge proper alongside the others, Xaren immediately found his gaze drawn upward.
The bridge was constructed in the shape of a sweeping dome, with its curved walls displaying an unbroken panorama of the galaxy around.
Twinkling stars lay scattered across the endless void of space, forming a breathtaking canvas of light and shadow.
Of course, the walls were not truly transparent. Instead, the dome was made of specialized screens that displayed real-time visuals from outside the vessel, but the illusion was flawless enough to convince even the most skeptical observer.
As he stood there among the gathered recruits, Xaren’s eyes were drawn to the massive portal looming ahead in space. It was so large that it dominated the entire forward view, and it grew larger with each passing second as the ship steadily approached it.
Just then, a command echoed from the ship’s captain standing on the elevated platform at the centre of the dome.
[Begin the final jump.]
The instant those words were spoken, the ship’s boosters roared, unleashing their full power and driving the vessel forward.
Xaren’s eyes widened in awe as the ship moved into the portal, and then the space around them shifted dramatically. The familiar backdrop of stars and darkness stretched into brilliant streams of light as the fabric of space bent and distorted.
Despite the incredible velocity at which they travelled, the ship’s interior remained completely stable, as though it weren’t even moving.
A spatial stabilization bubble surrounded the vessel, preserving the structural integrity of everything inside and shielding them from the terrible forces that would have otherwise torn their bodies apart at the molecular level.
The jump lasted for more than ten minutes, and towards the end, the brilliant streams of light began to slow, the warped space beyond the dome returning to a more familiar darkness punctuated by countless distant stars.
They burst out of the portal and emerged into the orbit of a colossal planet.
Xaren’s eyes widened at the sight of the massive sphere before them, its surface shrouded in swirling white clouds.
Around it, a number of moons drifted in their orbits, smaller companions to the massive world that hung before them.
’Wait, what?’
Suddenly, Xaren noticed something that made him double-take.
He rubbed his eyes once, then again, thinking for a moment that he was imagining things.
But no, he was seeing it correctly.
Some of the storm clouds churning across the planet’s atmosphere were so massive that they dwarfed some of the smaller moons in orbit.
The ship continued its course, moving into the planet’s gravitational field, and eventually docking at a colossal, pentagram-shaped space station orbiting the planet.
Moments later, the captain’s voice once again echoed through the speakers.
[Announcing arrival at Puelara Star System, Prime World Mebowei, Orbital Space Station Mebowei O1. Estimated stopover time is twenty-four hours.]
Even before the announcement had fully ended, a figure entered the bridge from the door behind Xaren’s group.
It was the same brown-uniformed High-Rank demon who had briefed them on their first day aboard the vessel.
He adjusted the cuffs of his jacket as he walked toward them, casting a quick, sweeping glance over the group before speaking.
"All of you are here? Good. Follow me."
He turned on his heel, not waiting to see if they obeyed, and the recruits hurried after him.
They moved to a teleportation platform nearby, which transported them to one of the ship’s airlock chambers, where the pressurization and artificial gravity were regulated before one entered or exited.
As the reinforced doors of the spaceship slid open, a group of demons waited outside to greet them.
The High-Rank demon exchanged a few words with them before guiding Xaren and the others to another teleportation platform.
This one released more than twenty times the magical power of the previous platform, the energy wrapping around them before propelling them through space and onto the surface of the planet.
