God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.
Chapter 951 951: Symbiotic Monsters (2).

"The right thing to say would be they consume life and mana to create these Devils, but that isn't entirely right, either..." Cain said with furrowed brows.

"The more I think about it, the more certain I become."

Evangeline slowly shifted closer,

"I'm listening..."

Cain didn't seem to notice as he was once again stuck in his own thoughts.

"First of all is the mana. The Devil Spires possess mechanisms that absorb mana from the clouds of god ash in the sky. But that might not be all they devour."

He paused for a moment,

"When Celestials die, what they leave behind is mostly these ashes, their bodies and spirits cremated by their own Divine Flame. However, they also leave something else."

Evangeline raised a brow,

"That would be their Divine Remnants."

Cain nodded,

"In some cases, it could be a drop of blood, or a piece of coral, or even a shard of ice. But not all celestials can condense their remnants into physical forms, apparently. There exists a hierarchy even within the ranks of heaven..."

"However, in most cases, the remnants of these gods, come on the form of..."

"Divinity." Evangeline muttered.

Cain nodded softly.

Of course, he had not simply come up with all this. He had taken his time to research with both the system as well as the [Records of Akasha] he had and the notes he had gotten from Azazel.

Ultimately, this was the conclusion he had come to.

"The battle between the Celestials and the Devils is definitely not one sided..."

"The bodies of Devils, particularly their exoskeletons, is made of {Fiend Steel}. A rather special and incredible material for crafting. Despite its abundance, there can never be enough of it. And since the Devils are always invading other worlds, it is simply killing two birds with one stone for the Celestials."

Cain paused for a moand sucked in a deep breath,

"On the other hand, the same can be said about the Celestials. The ashes of the dead celestials drift into worlds, the Devils invade these world, and absorb the mana and Divinity left behind by these dead gods. I assume this might negatively impact the existence of the Celestial pantheons of these gods have any intention of reviving themselves."

"I see..." Evangeline muttered.

"Perhaps that is why such broad variations in the evolutionary tree of Devils exists. Maybe they are renditiona of the powers of various celestials hidden within the nests of the pearly blankets."

"In other words, the existence of Devils are intricately tied to the existence of Celestials, or rather, is it the opposite, I wonder..."

Cain raised a brow and shifted his gaze. For some reason, Evangeline was much closer than she had been before. She was currently sitting in front of him on his table.

He swallowed hard, but decided to put the suspicious behavior out of his mind for now.

"The death of more Celestials means the birth of more Devils. The darkness consuming the light. But the Death of the Devils means the Celestial realms can thrive and prosperity even more. Both are cursed to be in conflict for all of eternity."

Evangeline hummed and lifted her head,

"Then what does that have to do with this map?" She said, laying the map down in front of him.

Cain grinned as he pointed,

"These spots right here are areas with high density of god ash gathering. That means a greater probability of god remnants existing. The Devil's are most likely to erect Devil Spires in these areas."

Sure enough, it was indeed as he had said. There were more Devil Spires, indicated with dark spots and a skull on the map, around these areas with significantly higher god ash concentrations.

"If we can steer away from these areas, it might be possible to ferry between cities. Or we might even find a way to stop the Devils from accumulating power!"

His eyes flashed with strange lights.

However, Evangeline just watched him without saying anything.

Eventually, when the fire in his eyes had died down a bit, he noticed something off and glanced up.

Seeing that expression, Cain couldn't help but tremble a bit.

"E-Eva."

"You know... That look of yours— You are really having fun, aren't you?"

Cain froze.

Fun.

He felt his heart skip a beat.

'I wouldn't call it fun. But it is a bit exciting, I won't deny it. But admitting is seems a bit embarrassing.'

Instead of replying, he cleared his throat and rose to his feet.

However, before he couldove even an inch, a pair of snow white legs wrapped around his waist. Cain felt a heat wash over him.

At the same time, he couldn't help but feel a certain guilt cloud over his heart.

"This... Eva. I—"

"Don't say anything. You might ruin the moment." Evangeline placed a finger on his lips and said with a small smile.

Cain frowned and shook his head. With one hand, he grasped hers and pulls it away.

"No. You aren't listening to me. I'm already involved with other women."

He had barely gotten the words out when he felt arms slither around his neck and pull him in.

Situations like this were often times dangerous because they were charged with an energy he had absolutely no control over.

Evangeline leaned in, her eyes glowing dangerously crimson in the dark room. He felt pain coming from his lower lip. His eyes widened.

'She bit me?!'

The pain wasn't extreme. Instead, it was more like a lover's bite. A tease.

Like a cat marking its territory.

Cain felt his lower regions respond immediately.

The depths of his eyes flashed golden.

Just when he was ready to lose himself, wisps of darkness wrapped around Evangeline.

Then she vanished.

And reappeared on the bed.

Cain clenched his fists.

'Damn it!'

"You really enjoy doing this, don't you..."

Evangeline glanced at him and chuckled softly, but said nothing.

He let out a sigh of frustration and plopped back down to his seat.

Sha had made a habit of coming over every once in a while to tease him, the intensity of it rising with every visit.

Although she hadn't explicitly said it, he had a feeling he knew why.

'How frustrating...'

Still, he didn't want to give in.

At least not yet.

Not until he had all his affairs sorted out at the very least.
