God Ash: Remnants of the fallen. -
Chapter 950 950: Symbiotic Monsters (1).
Cain walked out of the Temple of Sands with a full mind.
There was a lot to think about, after all...
If the Devils were to be compared with anything, it would be a malignant cancerous growth, or a fetid, wicked plague that devoured everything.
What made them truly frightening though, was the existence of the {Broodmothers}. With the {Broodmothers}, creatures with the blood of Lyx, the Primordial Devil of Death itself flowing through their grotesque forms, the Devil population would only continue to grow so long as there were resources and mana for them to consume.
He had no idea how it worked, but with every swathe of land and life the darkness consumed, more and more Devils woukd be born.
And even after their deaths, their corpses could recycled to create even more Devils.
Such a thing was truly frightening to witness firsthand.
Like a nightmare that never truly ended.
Cain let out a sigh.
With his mind occupied, he didn't notice when he reached his destination.
It was a large rebuilt apartment building located at the ends of Valestorm, in the area the Golden Asura occupied.
He had chosen this place because it was quiet and there weren't a lot of people around.
He preferred it that way...
He slowly walked in and stumbled towards the stairs. As he walked down, he couldn't help but notice it was more quiet than usual.
'Maybe I'm the only one here tonight...' He thought to himself.
Upon getting to his door, he noticed something off.
He snapped out of his reverie and frowned.
Someone was in his room.
His eyes narrowed.
Still, he continued without stopping.
As he twisted the door knob, he noticed the shadows in the room move.
He let out a sigh and pushes the door open.
There, seated on his bed, plump pale legs crossed, her eyes focused on the pages of an old book nestled on her fingers, was Evangeline.
The soft radiance of the moon filtered through the open window.
The evening breeze carried the curtains, making them look like the shawl of a ghostly apparition, creating a rather otherworldly picture behind the silver haired beauty.
Cain pursed his lips,
"I wasn't expecting you."
Evangeline looked up from her book. The edge of her lips twitched a bit.
Cain's brows furrowed even more.
"You are back. I was waiting for you."
Cain felt the urge to turn the hands of time.
The moment he saw her, he had a feeling he wouldn't be getting any sleep tonight either.
Cain sighed as he resigned himself to fate and walked forward,
"This... Why are you here? Aren't you supposed to be—"
"Where and what... All that doesn't matter, does it?" Evangeline said, a mystical look on her face.
Cain raised a brow, 'What the hell did that even mean?'
He cleared his throat,
"Listen, if you are here just to make trouble, unfortunately, I have work to do."
Evangeline snorted and dropped to the bed, her hair spreading like a silver river of moonlight.
"Oh, really. What work?"
Cain pursed walked over to his desk and pulled off his cloak before throwing it over the chair,
"I went to see Gilead. Here's the map he drew out," Cain said, pulling out the canvas map from his inventory and tossing it at Evangeline.
Tendrils of shadows shot at the map and wrapped around it.
The tendrils of shadow brought it over to their ruler and unfurled it before her.
"How detailed. He must have worked hard on it."
Cain nodded,
"I didn't expect him to have such artistic talent."
Evangeline smiled and glanced at him.
Feeling her stare, he made sure not to meet her eyes.
Instead, he proceeded to plop down on his chair and open his status;

After the battle, he had not engaged in a lot of battles. So it was hard to level up and collect free attribute points.
Even after all this time, he had not hit Level 299, which was the required level to attempt the Third Trial.
He also only had a little less than thirty thousand free attribute points.
There hadn't been much changes to his stat sheet otherwise.
Well, besides the appearance of a new resistance that had appeared after he had defeated Abaloth.
But from the look of things, it wasn't a significant one, so he paid it no mind.
His Ki stat had also improved by a lot. With a lot of down time, he could passively increase his Ki as much as he wanted so that had grown significantly.
Rubbing his eyes, Cain spoke again,
"The map is not just detailed. I believe it reveals a certain aspect of Devil nature we might have been missing all this time."
Evangeline slowly sat up and stretched her lithe body.
Cain covertly glanced over, but couldn't help his eyes lingering for a few more seconds.
Evangeline threw him a knowing smile, but he pretended not to see.
"And what would that be?" She asked eventually.
Cain cleared his throat and his expression turned serious,
"It's simple, really. How exactly do the {Broodmothers} acquire the energy they need to create more Devils..."
