Global Lord: My Undead Can Undergo Fission -
Chapter 227 The Failed Probe
Chapter 227: Chapter 227 The Failed Probe
In the Imperial Palace of the New Moon Kingdom, a figure hurriedly walked in.
"Your Majesty, I have heard you intend to trade the corpses of our predecessors, and the dealings are with those damned Undead." Hearing this, everyone around instantly fell quiet.
The New Moon King waved his hand, signaling for everyone to leave.
Looking at Casio standing before him, the King felt a headache coming on. This man was the leader of his personal Knight Order, originally a Thunder Knight by troop type, and now he had become a Hero Unit.
These hero units born from troop types had many good qualities—loyalty, strength, lacking any weaknesses, and having a powerful battlefield intuition and combat instincts, making them exceptionally useful tools.
But there was one unsatisfactory point: their political acumen was terribly inadequate, nearly nonexistent.
Without clarifying some matters for them, these fellows would fail to comprehend anything.
"Alright, I know what you want to ask. The battle is drawing to a close now, and we must hold out until spring so the war halts on its own. But if we let it continue this way, our losses will be too great."
"To reduce casualties, we can only think of ways to pass on the loss. Fortunately, those Undead are very controllable, and the newly arrived Vampires are obedient. With money, we can hire combat power of a Golden level."
"I understand all that, but why must we use the corpses of our predecessors."
These corpses were from the fallen Thunder Knights and Flame Knights, buried in special gardens as a memorial, but now there were plans to dig them up.
Being of Golden Level in life and after some special processes, their bodies had not decomposed.
Even those buried within the last three hundred years, if dug up now, would seem lifelike, as if they had just been laid to rest.
"Because the treasury is nearly empty. This amount of money is nothing to a kingdom, but our nation has many other expenses. To suddenly pull out such funds would squeeze the other budgets and might even lead to national instability. Using the corpses, on the other hand, would avoid this expenditure."
"Then why keep fighting? We should not have engaged in this battle from the start. Our two nations have always had friction, but it has never escalated to this extent."
The King rose to his feet gently: "Do you think I want to fight? Don’t I know it incurs huge losses? But now, I simply can’t control it. It’s the Nobles who want to continue; they are not willing to stop."
Indeed, many Nobles had suffered heavy losses and sought to recoup or gain more merits, requiring war. There were also those who had lost family members, and they sought revenge, which was even harder to suppress.
After all, for the Nobles, revenge is a righteous cause that no one has the right to obstruct.
"What exactly is this battle about? Why has it turned out this way? We’ve had friction every year, but it has never come to this."
The New Moon King said indifferently, "Blue Sand Kingdom made the first move; they hired the Undead to gain more advantage and reduce their losses. This action surely also meant to test the Undead."
Then the King continued: "And then there is our situation. Flower Plateau, a constant thorn in our side, has a new ruler. Though an outsider, he is still a Vampire. I wanted to weaken them and test them as well."
On this, both Kings shared the exact same thought.
"So, although I had no communication with the opposition, we both decided to escalate the scale of the war. Whether Blue Sand Kingdom wants to test the Undead, or we want to exterminate the Vampires, it’s greatly beneficial."
"And now? Have our goals been achieved?"
Casio’s agitated expression gradually calmed down, and from the King’s perspective, everything seemed to make sense.
"Partly achieved, and partly not," there was a hint of bitterness in the King’s face.
"Our probes were partially successful; they have an idea of how much combat power lies hidden behind those forces, and it’s also fairly certain that the two Undead Forces are not aligned."
"But we also can’t withdraw from the war now; it must continue to unfold. All we can do is find ways to weaken the strength of these Undead and Vampires."
Then the King spoke again: "Not just us, I believe that old fellow on the other side might make the same choice and use corpses in trade." On the battlefield, they had already let go of many of the adversary’s corpses.
To now initiate the use of their own, the significance was completely different.
Whether on our side or the opponent’s, there would be significant resistance, and this resistance stemmed precisely from these hero units of troop origin. Although the King could not see it, he knew their loyalty had likely declined.
It’s a pity that although his ancestors had become Lords, a Lord’s title could not be inherited.
Without exceptional circumstances, each generation’s King could only command these people through bloodline succession or by using the buildings left behind to create new troop types, but he himself was not a Lord.
Not being a Lord meant weakened binding power, and problems were rife.
"So, Your Majesty, what are your plans moving forward?" Casio asked, his expression seems to have changed.
"Of course, to find ways for revenge. After this battle, I plan to instigate a war between those Vampires and the Undead. The distance between them must be quite close. Although of the same kind, the cruelty among their own kin is greater."
"As long as they fight each other, we will eventually eradicate them."
"I understand." Casio nodded and then decided what was out of sight was out of mind. He couldn’t bear to watch the corpses of his predecessors being taken away; he would not be able to restrain himself from intervening, but any action on his part would wreck the plan.
Meanwhile, the situation was the same on the shores of the Blue Sand Kingdom.
Fang Jie, on the other hand, was gleefully collecting a great number of corpses. With these resources, he could create a mass of Golden Troops at one go.
Even if he were to confront both kingdoms head-on, Fang Jie had a certain level of confidence.
But remembering the terrifying strength at the Legendary Level from before, Fang Jie decided to play it safe for now. Should his position be discovered by the opponent, he did not believe his forces could withstand a Legendary Expert.
"Lord, dinner is ready," spoke a white fox as it slowly approached the door and addressed Fang Jie.
With these Attendants, his life had become much more regulated. Stepping out from the Mage Tower, Fang Jie headed towards the dining room of his Territory.
