Chapter 226: Chapter 226: The Ever-Increasing Hiring Fees

"I’ve finally caught you. Do you have anything left to say?"

Liu Li was pressed down and brought before Jia Siwei. This guy had always been against him; Fang Jie didn’t think much of him, but Jia Siwei couldn’t ignore the fact that Liu Li’s abilities were quite formidable.

However, he had unfortunately gathered a group of people to oppose him. If it weren’t for Fang Jie being strong enough to send him a large number of troops, the outcome of this battle might have been quite different.

Liu Li’s arm dangled abnormally, and his face was smeared with blood.

"Victory for the king, defeat for the vanquished. Just do it. I know you won’t spare me. This battle is far from over."

"Indeed, I can’t spare you. Your existence is too dangerous," Jia Siwei said earnestly.

"Spare the others then. They were all just following my orders. I hope you can go further so that losing to you won’t be shameful," Liu Li had no intention of submitting.

Jia Siwei looked down in thought for a moment, then nodded, "All right, I promise you. Now, it’s time to send you off."

As he spoke, Jia Siwei motioned with his hand, and a puppet immediately stepped forward, plunging a longsword into Liu Li’s body. Even at this moment, Jia Siwei remained cautious, fearful that Liu Li might have a trick up his sleeve.

When the others saw Liu Li’s death, some were disheartened while others were exhilarated, but Jia Siwei paid no attention to them.

"Lock these people up for now; we’ll decide their fates later." Many of Liu Li’s subordinates had considerable abilities. Whether they could be subdued would depend on Jia Siwei’s own capabilities.

But now was not the time for that. The aerial battle continued, and they couldn’t afford to stop.

Not far ahead was the territory the New Moon Kingdom had conferred upon Jia Siwei. If he could take it, he would have a region under his control, even if only temporarily. It would surely help in his development.

Having reached this position, the next steps should be much easier.

Qin Lan had long understood this area and even laid many traps. If he couldn’t take it now, he might as well dash his head against a wall and be done with it.

The war continued, and with each passing day, the situation began to shift visibly.

Apart from the northern front, which kept advancing, other areas seemed to be barely holding on for the New Moon Kingdom. Inevitably, the opposing forces just kept growing.

Not only were there multitudes of low-level Undead Creatures, but also Flying troops. In addition to Blue Sand Kingdom’s own Sky Cavalry, there were many Skeleton Flying Dragons causing a great deal of damage on the battlefield.

On the New Moon Kingdom’s side, they had also mobilized their Thunder Knights.

Thunder Knights were strong and, being foot soldiers, could be produced quickly and cheaply.

However, when compared to the aerial troops, the Thunder Knights were significantly outmatched. With the number of White Bone Griffin Knights diminishing over the long fight, the pressure was mounting.

That day, Mobs finally contacted Fang Jie.

"Lord, Marquis Kolan is representing the New Moon Kingdom and has proposed negotiations again."

Fang Jie narrowed his eyes slightly, "They want to increase the number of mercenaries? Didn’t you tell them we don’t have many troops left either?" Fang Jie wasn’t really out of troops; it was a deliberate ploy.

Without exerting some pressure, how could he get what he wanted?

Blue Sand Kingdom could afford to bring out treasures such as the Gathering Spirit Tower—Fang Jie didn’t expect New Moon Kingdom could do the same, but he couldn’t just throw his forces into battle to die for nothing.

These troops were indeed sent to die on the battlefield.

Golden Troops naturally had higher intelligence than low-level troops, but very few of them reached Elite status. Before reaching Elite status, they remained quite rigid.

Under these circumstances, Fang Jie wouldn’t treat them like real people, so he didn’t care about sending them off to die.

Over time, those who reached Elite status would be exchanged by Fang Jie; hence, none of the two Golden Troops had ever reached the status of Hero.

It goes without saying that a troop of that level reaching Hero status would at least be elevated to the Golden Peak.

As the grand battle unfolded, both countries were nearly losing control of their investments. Although the initial approach seemed promising, once the fighting started, it was impossible to hold back.

As a result, both countries kept hiring forces to try to gain the upper hand.

Blue Sand Kingdom was arguably better off, having used the Gathering Spirit Tower. But if New Moon Kingdom continued hiring uncontrollably, they might begin to doubt the true strength behind Flower Plateau.

Even at this rate of expenditure, it would be excruciating for New Moon Kingdom themselves.

"We’ve given our terms, and they keep saying they can’t do it, but I think a bit more pressure and they’ll buckle," Mobs replied.

"Is that so? Then we’ll wait a bit longer; after all, the loss of these forces is tangible."

That was certainly true. Without the support of Undead Splitting, Fang Jie wouldn’t dare to expend forces so recklessly nor could he afford to use up so many. Now, it hinged on what New Moon Kingdom could offer him.

In previous battles, apart from a few items, most of what was offered didn’t appeal to Fang Jie at all.

After another two days, New Moon Kingdom finally capitulated.

"They yielded quite quickly, but it’s understandable. If things keep going like this, the border won’t hold up." Seeing the picture sent by Mobs, Fang Jie spoke outright, "Since the goods are in place, then let’s grant them some more quotas."

On their side, they gave three Synthesis Diagrams.

Diagrams for Aggregation Magic Crystal Stones, Aggregation Energy Crystal Stones, and Storage Core synthesis.

With these, another fundamental material issue was resolved. Now, the only thing missing for creating Skeleton Flying Dragons was Golden Corpse. Even amidst the war, Fang Jie could develop faster.

It’s true what they say about war wealth, it really can make one rich overnight.

Fang Jie kept an eye on the battle to the south, although for the moment, it was hard to tell who would come out on top. He knew that both kingdoms had cards up their sleeves they hadn’t played yet.

Like the New Moon Kingdom, which still kept a Flame Knights unit in reserve, and they were Golden-level troops. This force was much stronger than the Thunder Knights.

Blue Sand Kingdom, which was even more powerful than New Moon Kingdom, would certainly have secrets of its own.

It was only now that Jia Siwei’s status had risen that he was privy to such secrets; otherwise, Fang Jie wouldn’t have known at all. And because of this, Fang Jie was aware that neither kingdom had yet to use their full strength.
